Yeah, the whole big Kingdom Hearts-esque fight at the end was the party defying fate. They fought the Whispers of Fate, and in doing so they changed some big events like Zack being alive in another timeline. The official Ultimania book confirmed that the Whispers are gone.

The crazy thing is that at the end when they're defeated, Sephiroth comes up to Cloud at the Edge of Creation and essentially reveals he wanted the Whispers dead too, because him attempting to change fate caused them to appear. So the big theory going on is that Sephiroth from the future (Advent Children, as evidenced by his black wing) went back in time to try to change events (the concept of time doesn't exist in the Lifestream I'm guessing), the Whispers appeared to try to fix things as Sephiroth's meddling created a butterfly effect, and Sephiroth basically tricked the party into killing the Whispers so he can do what he wants.

I'm only going off of scene snippets from a the 'Everything Wrong With' vid, but Barret apparently gets killed by Sephiroth in Shinra Tower - as in actually impaled and pronounced dead in a cutscene - and the Whispers just bring 'im right back. So complete nullification of the impact of character death notwithstanding, when it comes time for Aerith to get her big dramatic death, I predict one of two things is going to happen: she's either going to live, because this is the new reality where everyone's happy and nobody really dies or...Sephy and sword start descending on her in slo-mo, Aerith looks up and sees the Whispers, who slowly and dramatically shake their heads, and Aerith nods stoically, accepting her sealed fate as Sephy runs her through. And I am going to laugh my silly ass off at either outcome, which is the very last reaction I should be having over that scene.

Those Whispers are dead by the end. So death is still a real threat. And I'm glad because I thought the whole Whisper stuff was dumb. But I liked the other added story content.

I had to use the Sword Legion's slash ability to hit all three cubes at once...WHICH I WAS DOING. I tried like a dozen times so I thought it was the wrong thing to do, but then suddenly it worked. I think a small hint to confirm I was on the right track would have been okay? @_@

Yeah, Sword's kinda weird on those. Once I get Arrow Legion I just use its slow-mo aiming and it gets the job done much better.

It's pretty alright, makes me feel like I don't know how to play games tho. Didn't feel like I had that much trouble dodging stuff in Nier, but that game didn't give me letter grades I guess

The dodge is a lot stricter in Astral Chain. You can unlock a kind of counter move after dodging perfectly, but it's easier to unlock the legion summon parry since the window for it is not as strict. Also the letter grades are a bit weird here, as they more grade you depending on your variety of moves. You can get an S+ rank and still take craptons of damage/use health items as long as you're varied in your combat.

Well I did pick up all the quests from the initial town (the mini map made it really easy to find the people) and I would go out and kill enemies if they had exclamation points on the mini map since theyd complete quests
But aside from that, no, but I dont think theres that many side quests right?

Throughout the game? Lol...there's like 400+ sidequests throughout. That said they're a pretty good source of experience, they're your main source of leveling since fighting enemies to level up usually takes too long.
