Making a totally new character is stupid. the entire show is built around people close to Kate Kane. the main villain is her sister. the side characters are other people around her, her friends and family. now she just leaves and a stranger steps in. it makes no sense. and the most important thing is that Kate Kane is fucking Batwoman. this is like if in Gotham they had made someone else become Batman instead of Bruce I can't help but wonder if Ruby Rose is available to do the odd cameo or something. --- Kind Regards, Darmik |

Topic | I really liked The Last of Us Part 2 ending *major spoilers* |
Darmik 07/08/20 6:22:16 PM #1 | I knew about the leaks and even the ending of Ellie unable to play her guitar due to losing fingers. This lead to me going into this game thinking it was going to be a misery-porn experience right up until the end. But actually experiencing the ending and how it tied the whole series together is just a whole other story. The dance scene being one of the first major scenes they showed from the game makes so much sense in retrospect because of how important that night ended up being in the game. You only hear about it in dialogue for the majority of the game. I was under the impression that Joel was being typical Joel and got over aggressive in an attempt to protect Ellie. Then when you see that night near the end of the game you find that isn't the case at all. Joel didn't do anything wrong. Ellie blew up at him because she still held resentment towards him for not letting her life be sacrificed for the greater good. The guy just looks heartbroken and that's their final interaction! Of course she's so driven for revenge. She feels guilty about how things were with Joel when he died. Throughout the game in her diary she can barely remember what Joel looks like. She doesn't really think about who he was. And of course this leads to the final confrontation when she finally gets the opportunity to murder Abby. Then it finally hits her that this isn't going to help anything. She remembers the real Joel. The Joel that loved her and made her happy. That moment wasn't just about letting Abby go. It was about realizing and understanding why Joel did what he did. It was for her. He loved her. She loves him. She doesn't need to do this. She needs to accept what their relationship was, how it ended and remember him for who he was in her life. After this she can finally draw him in her journal again. It all comes together when she goes back to her farmhouse and has her real last memory with Joel. It was a nice, bittersweet one. They were starting to mend their relationship. Unlike the final 'okay' in the first game that was filled with uncertainty and their relationship being stacked on a house of cards this was an 'okay' that was about forgiveness and optimism. Forgiveness and letting go lead to them both being happy and it's sad she didn't try sooner, The final scene with her guitar didn't end up being some sadsack ending. It was Ellie accepting her loss and going forward. Whatever that may be. I was super surprised that while Ellie was the heart of the first game, Joel ended up being the heart of the second game. Even the guilt of his murder lead to Abby and Owen attempting to be better people to make amends for what they have done. I guess leaks can tell you the facts of how an event plays out but not how you'll feel when they happen. --- Kind Regards, Darmik |

Darmik 07/07/20 7:19:12 PM #92 | nemu posted... Breakout films are particularly rare, and it's super unlikely to happen within this specific genre. The point of a famous actor is to potentially bring in people who go in on starpower alone, widening the reach way more than the simple premise ever would have done. Maybe her portrayal would have been absolute tripe and ruined the film, but the chances of it making any real impact or profit is pretty low without her or another major star. I can understand if someone really thinks integrity is more important than reach, but I feel the same people would want more people to see such a film as well. The people complaining don't need to worry about how this movie makes money. Halle Berry hasn't done anything that wasn't a supporting role in an action movie or a leading role in a generic thriller for years anyway. Which probably isn't what people want from this movie regardless. If the trans community already dislike the lead star and how she talks about the movie this movie is failing before it has even really begun. If it's an oscar bait movie I don't think they need a big star but again I don't even know if this is that movie. This could be a Direct to Walmart movie for all I know. --- Kind Regards, Darmik |

Darmik 07/07/20 6:51:16 PM #87 | nemu posted... She's not some $20 million per film actor, but I doubt it would have been chump change either. You don't go in on an actor like her and expect nothing from the film. Ultimately, if someone wants to make a film about a transperson that reaches a wider audience, they're not going to get it with a trans actor at this point in time. The smartest thing would have been to have her as the lead and get smaller trans actors as secondary characters to get their names more out there. We don't know because as far as I know it just hasn't happened. We're in a new era of streaming services and people barely going to the cinemas unless it's for a comic book movie. There has been movies that have had an unknown lead that found huge success. I don't know what the goal of this movie is never mind the budget. Notice how neither of us or anyone debating it have still used the name of the movie. Halle Berry who has been a sex symbol isn't necessarily the best pick to play a trans man just because she's famous. --- Kind Regards, Darmik |

Darmik 07/07/20 6:34:02 PM #82 | nemu posted... You realize that it's obvious more people are going to want to watch a film with a big name over an unknown, right? Plenty of critical flops still make money on starpower alone. If you want to make a wide reaching film, you hire a big budget actor. They can still be commercial failures, but you at least have a shot at making money over some barely known D-list actor. The name of the movie isn't even name dropped in the tweets in the OP so I don't think they're making some wide reaching film. Halle Berry isn't some huge draw in 2020 anyway. You have now heard about this movie because of the controversy regardless. So if you're interested in it you will watch it either way no? --- Kind Regards, Darmik |
