I knew a dude who was a former alcoholic who would drink a 26 during each shift (even in 100 degree plus weather) and it was just his maintenance drinks to make it through the day.

Dude didn't show up for work once and no on could reach him and it turned out he had dreamt (or hallucinated) that he'd thrown a nail gun off the roof at a guy on the ground and smashed him in the head and he thought he'd be arrested if he went into work or answered their calls.

He was a roofer then... I knew him a couple years later and he hadn't touched a drink since but yeah... what a thing for the mind to do to you.

So real weird day, woke up this morning around 6:45 to my wife's brother calling us, just casually wanting to talk and I got kind of pissed off at him, we usually game together and whatnot but he knows to not call before like 11am. So I was kinda nice about it and was like.. you know how early it is, right? So I hung up and 5 minutes later he calls again so I just turn off my phone. Got up around 11 and told the wife to tell her brother that he can't call my cell and to ignore him if he calls that early again.

So then shes says.. what the hell are you talking about? He didn't call this morning. Looked at my phone and call history and he didn't at all. With the major shakes I've been having I went to the doc and he concluded that I have mild delirium tremens and I hallucinated/dreamed the entire thing. It felt so damned real that it's kind of shocking but sure enough after talking to her brother tonight he didn't call at all this morning.

I got put on mild dose of benzos and basically need to drink water and rest for the next two days til I get through this. Its messing with me though.

Damn man. I'm sorry its hitting you that hard. That would be really strange to deal with to say the least... I dont really know what to say except you have our support for whatever its worth.

Same. Thats my whole problem. I get so shakey and I can't speak without sounding really weird and short of breath or just yelling.

When I was growing up I dealt with it by fighting cause at least it was a release. Plus I got bullied till i started fighting and then it stopped pretty quick.

I haven't been in a fight in close to ten years but I still sorta harken back to that response.

I mean not in every situation but certainly when some guy is acting hostile towards me.

I also have a very hard time staying calm when someone is acting aggressively towards me though and thats more a negative. Like even when I know the smart move is just to ignore them and go about my day I get caught up in their anger and respond in kind when I know its not worth it or sensible behavior.

You made a valid point but the reality is that if you rear end someone you're gonna be found at fault barring extreme extenuating circumstances.

I rear ended a dude once after he cut me off because I'd literally just gotten that car on the road and the mechanic who looked it over didnt think the brake lines were rusty enough to be a concern....

Still got cited for following too closely. Which was a mistake on the cops part, imo, but its one that many cops would likely make.

Also overall he was a great dude and straight up told the lady who started faking whiplash the moment he got on scene "you can drop it right now. I'm not buying it."

If that giant old piece of Detroit Iron didn't even make a mark (i stomped the e brake as soon as inreaoized my brakes weren't working) when I slid into their kia or whatever the fuck it was it was pretty clear the collision wasn't serious enough to cause injury.

This. And also just peoples social skills becoming rusty over time. Very introverted people have likely become fairly comfortable and having to go back to uncomfortable situations may be more trying now.

I'm kinda lucky in that all my social anxiety is in the lead up. Like I'll be miserable knowing something is coming up... but generally enjoy it once its actually happening, or at least not be so stressed about it.

Also is there a word for it when you tend to mirror other people's emotions? Like even if i know better and generally wouldn't react poorly to someone else's issues i automatically get super pissed off if they're super pissed off. Or if there are people who are really upset with each other and it has nothing to do with me I still get emotionally caught up in their feelings even though intellectually it makes no sense and I know I really shouldn't.

If all youre doing is worrying about the .1% of situations that can occur, you shouldnt be driving. Not to say you shouldnt be aware of your surroundings (which I was, considering it was oh yeah, perfect weather conditions and I could see all around the car so if I did see a figure move towards the road, Id have ample opportunity to stop) but you cant drive scared.

Its really fucking crazy how people can snap over the smallest thing. Like if I came across someone violently beating my niece there's a chance I'd kill the guy... but it seems like its always something small that sets people off.

Dude here a couple years ago had had an ongoing dispute with neighbour's for years. Then one day he gets in a fight with his wife and she leaves the house.... so he murders both neighbour's, drives to another place and kills 2 more people, then turns himself in. Dude was like 60 and recently retired from the city and he suddenly just snaps like that almost out of nowhere?

A single car length or two at highway speeds isn't proper distance. You should be able to pick a landmark on the roadside and it should be a minimum 2 seconds distance from the car ahead passing it till you pass it.

I always thought that was taught basically everywhere.
