My dad let me be at home alone consistently around 14, but only because of necessity really. He worked nights and didn't want to hire a babysitter for a teen.

My mom was hit and miss for a long time, because instead of letting me watch the siblings (eventually she did) or let me do my thing she let the other kid's babysitter walk all over myself and one of my my sisters.

Her and her BF threw homophobic comments all the time, and they both berated myself and before mentioned sister. She treated me like crap when I was having a medical issue, basically told me to shut up, and didn't actually do anything about it. Literally said I could tell my mom when she got home and deal with it until then. She didn't feel like she was responsible for me because I was older, but also felt like it was okay to boss me around too.

I wish my spouse would play games with me, and they are a gamer! They could be having all the fun in the world and they still have dropped every activity we do together.

I basically sit here playing games solo while interjecting commentary into conversation and try to have conversations.

Isn't that generally technically true of any gender, because of the chemicals the brain releases after coitus or something?

The last job my sister had the anti-mask people wore them just enough to trick the higher ups into thinking they were following the rules. There was an outbreak, and of course they weren't in the ones let go.

The manager was surprised when my sister expressed this being an issue, they from what my sister told me were genuinely under the impression that the rules were followed and she definitely sees why.

Just eat something light for now so you don't get sick when you do eat a full meal.

For real. Every time I go through a point that I don't eat for days once I do it's like my body forgot what food was. It causes a lot of pain and discomfort.

I know it can be hard when you're not feeling hungry, but this is really good advice.

There has been talks of it, fortunately. I just hate to say it, but I don't think having that movie was a good idea is what I mean.

Also what I heard was it was starting at book 5 or something. But that might have to do with the sheer amount of flashbacks in that one iirc. I'll admit I'm fuzzy on book numbers since every time I've basically binged the whole series.

Basically, though, I think the movie bombed in part due to the fact that nothing about the series is suited for a movie really. Too long. What do you cut? What do you keep? I think changing stuff as much as they did was the only way they could have done it, but that was apparently a very unpopular choice.

It can depend, particularly given his "short stories" aren't necessarily so short. Otherwise he's done quite a few novels as well. I believe most of his novels have become films, but he has tons of short stories that haven't been adapted at all (ie, not in a tv show either)

Otherwise some of his short stories have appeared in anthologies, which is a better fit than making a ton of shit up so it'll be movie length. The movie Cat's Eye, for instance, includes his stories "Quitters, Inc" (which is great both as a short story and in film) and "The Ledge." Humorously, the worst story of the bunch -- "General" -- was a new creation

Length isn't the only factor imo, most of his stories are pretty absurd. They're amazing to read, but I'd imagine a nightmare to realize to the screen.

And then of course you have length issues, like The Dark Tower. There's no way to make that into a movie, should be a series. The first book is so dry and drags, and the series is kinda massive. I actually enjoyed it for what it was, and I thought Idris Elba and Matthew Mcconaughey actually did well enough. It was just doomed to be not so good. People had high expectations, and honestly even as someone who has been obsessed with the books I question why they did. It was doomed to failure.

The household doesn't have a landline though either. The other two here have cell service. Mine was a casualty of the layoff and was never reinstated. Which is fine, I'll live.

I honestly think his stories and style probably aren't all that suited for movies overall.

A story can be a great story, but awful for a movie.

I just watched an 'Explained' video for the movie Oculus and it was literally just them going through the plot of the movie. There was no additional commentary, nothing that required any additional research, just nothing. And that channel has nearly 2 million subscribers. Fucking why?

I was watching it hoping there was some other lore or backstory or SOMETHING else.

Of it's the guy I'm thinking of, honestly I just enjoy listening to the synopsis of the movies personally.

I watch them for movies I've never seen and movies I perfectly understand what happened in them tbh. It just amuses me, idk why.

Uh maybe I was taken the wrong way. You absolutely should get a credit card at 18, you should use it for most purchases because it is safer than using a debit card and I personally don't let interest accrue on my account. I've gotten a few cars and computers and some other relatively small loans that I've paid off and I still required a cosigner when I bought a new car recently. My credit score is very high, but I've never had more than one loan active at once and my credit card is paid off monthly.

I just meant you might be right about the loan thing, but that's far from the only use of a high credit score. Before the bankruptcy my sister was apparently eligible for up to a $50k loan based mostly on credit score with no co signer. Idk how much things have changed with current events though. But she absolutely was pre-approved. I keep hearing so many different experiences when it come to loans I swear.

Maybe, but at the same time we've actually had a lot of little issues come up because neither my spouse or I have had a credit card ever. People were actually berating my spouse for it. Their own mom berated them for it, but had never taught them growing up. Literally trying to get somewhere and basically been told welp you have no options because of it, too bad so sad.

Apparently it can bite you in the ass more and worse than you might think.

Oof, my condolences. Those are never fun at all.

Was super prone to those growing up. Got them so often the doctor refused to prescribe anything after a certain point and told me to drink water and flush it myself. (Apparently the amount of blood and protein in my sample was always appalling and always got me chewed out.)

Because that's where I am right now. I know my spouse used to make some spicy food (kid ate that like a boss, warned the dude but he really wanted to try it and then he wanted his food 'spicy like sweetheart's' for a while) but I have no idea what was even in it.

The last thing I remember eating really spicy was something that was just basically jalapenos honestly. It's not the spiciest thing I've had, just the last thing I remember what it was. Or maybe the jalapenos from the jar that had been around over a year. Again, know I've had spicier but he'll if I remember what it was....

My tolerance for spicy is either it does not phase me or oh god something spicy looked at my food I'm dying. Literally no in between. My dad and I used to try to find the hottest pepperoncini we could and eat them until we couldn't feel our mouths anymore when I was a teen. Fun times.

Personally if I see a Monster Hunter movie, I want to see a Monster Hunter movie not modern hunting Monster Hunter monsters. If that makes sense. That's not exciting to me, that's every other action movie involving monsters. Others absolutely can enjoy them, but I'm definitely over them right now.

I'll admit, I've only played 3U, Gen, Stories, and a little bit of world but I don't recall guns or vehicles like that.

The monster looks good, but the vehicles and present day our world guns/vehicles makes the whole thing feel lazy and cookie cutter to me. I'm very sad now.

I asked my spouse and they said the guns technically could pass but the vehicles are a no.

Not where I live, and I do live in the US.

Tried to go to the shelter, first come applied first dibs AND you basically had to have a job to get in as people with jobs got priority. Flat got told in no uncertain terms that we COULD try, but that we weren't getting in with no jobs. That the spaces filled far too fast for even all the people with jobs to get.

Could that have been a lie? Absolutely. Did it matter? Not really, they were the ones with the power.

Trust me, we looked. Where I live it's mostly people who managed to eek out something despite where I live adding additional (often ridiculous) steps that actually ultimately block out people who need help the most helping people who can't.

The poor help the poor around here way more than assistance programs do. We have people who have to rely on gathering cans to recycle or pecans to sell. I've been asked to walk with my child on the street to avoid stepping on someone's income. I've had people offer yard work for money. We have poor people passing around what bits they can spare far more often than people are managing to get assistance.

You know your town is weird when you go for assistance and they flat tell you that you should have come when you had money. Or your mom has cancer and applies for assistance so she doesn't have to work a physically demanding job on chemo and gets told her situation is too temporary and is denied!

I've told my friend how hard it is to get any help. They looked into it and was blown away by the extra steps people have to go through here that apparently they don't have to other places. Half the time the resources are a joke too, like the job placement assistance. They don't do shit.

We've ultimately wasted too much energy getting nowhere getting help, and learned it's sink or swim around here. It's little wonder houses are literally falling apart, unoccupied. And I mean literally, they fall apart until the city finally has them torn down, long after a point of return.

Damn, I knew the days of people having their hunting gear in the bed of their truck they parked at school were gone (understandably) but this wasn't a real gun nor at school. It was in his own home. What threat does a BB gun that's near no other students possess?

Now asking him to avoid it in the future because it's distracting? Fine. Absolutely fine. This is scorched earth. Recommended expulsion?! Nah, there's ways to deal with this and what happened isn't any of them.

Frequency isn't at a level either of us want tbh.

Spouse working and has chronic migraines, and I have massive chronic pain and fatigue issues. Stars have to align. Desire and ability are not at the same level.

And now we're not even in the same room and wearing masks every time we leave the room we're sleeping in because of an outbreak at work (was in same room but masks on near each other) that turned to they tested positive and oh shit I got sick after slipping up and kissing them one gd time right (and I mean like the night before) they tested positive.

So at this rate hell is going to freeze over before either of us get any... Adult fun times. I'd say FML, but no if I'm not getting any neither is my life. DFML.

Depends on the week. I can play 70+ hours on the high end and like 20 ish on the low end.

Energy and pain levels are huge factors when it comes to how much I'm doing anything.

My spouse has gone through so many, either due to them breaking or the cats having some weird hair tie hunting sense that hones them in on exactly where they are. Would pretty much have to lock the hair ties up baby proofing levels to keep them away from them.

He's probably got a better chance than I do, and since I'm not dead yet going with he'll probably make it through it.

Now the shape he's in after is what remains to be seen.

Yeah I'm guessing it has to do with current circumstances being less than ideal.

That being said though, I've seen a smaller place push tips on pick up long before the pandemic tbh too. And they were usually crowed when we went, so even though they were a smaller restaurant they didn't seem to be hurting for business 99% of the time.

Which actually was a surprise considering my town can't seem to keep most business as about a week or two after opening people seem to usually stop going to places. This applies to all sorts of businesses too. (Besides Dollar General, that place is booming and we have two of those.)

I've spiked my own coffee and honestly I prefer it that way. But NyQuil and DayQuil don't effect me the same as it seems to literally anyone else so idek.

To be clear I'm not talking about recreational use of those or something. I just have to take NyQuil during the day and DayQuil at night because NyQuil actually makes me hyper and DayQuil makes me sluggish and loopy. So IDEK if the whole upper+downer is affecting me the same as it might someone else.

Like I don't agree with the yes, but I'll be damned if I don't at least understand that vote more. If you feel that way, wtf are you going to try to still be friends with that person? I feel like you should just break off the friendship at that point.

I'm honestly confused at the wouldn't stop being their friend but would want them out.
