A marketing campaign isn't a gimmick though. Creating a popular gesture also isn't a gimmick. The spice Girls are a fabricated group put together by record execs like most bands of their kind. Its a shitty practice the music industry loves but I dont think its so much a gimmick as just a shitty formulaic thing industry execs and money people do.

The only one I'd say fits the bill for a gimmick in your examples is ac/dc.

A gimmick is a gimmick. Its not a style, or a sound, or a viewpoint.

Many bands have identifiable traits, sounds, views, or looks, but those things aren't inherently gimmicks.

A gimmick is like what gwar does. Or slipknots costumes. Most bands don't have gimmicks.

Conor did beat Jose Aldo at Featherweight and Eddie Alvarez at Lightweight. Both were champions, with Aldo once considered the best ever at that weight, and Conor made it look really easy.
