I've seen the promos, it looks bad. Granted, the original show was schlock - I've seen reruns, it's a mediocre action show for people's dads and grandpas. But this reboot looks bad in its own way.

CW shows are all so superficial. They have a bunch of generically pretty actors reading through hackneyed dogshit for 22 minutes a pop, and for all the visual gloss they try to smear over their shows like Riverdale and Vampire Diaries, it all comes off looking incredibly cheap and fake. The dialogue and acting is a cheap pantomime, the sets and actors look cheap and fake, and nothing about any CW show I've ever watched has been substantive to any degree.

Walker looks just as soulless and fake as Riverdale. It can, and should, bomb. The original show wasn't much better, it's a generic timeslot filler - I'd rather watch Diagnosis: Murder over that crap. But Walker looks particularly cheap and fake, especially compared to the original.

tbf, these are all intentional since the over-the-topness and kind of fake-ness are really well received by the teenagers who make up 95% of the CW's viewership. Teens want pretty people in over-the-top situations that they would never actually be in.

The best case scenario here is honestly Trump makes a new party for all the MAGA lunatics and splits the vote so the Democrats just WRECK them both in 2024, and the two conservative parties immediately merge back together even farther to the right to appeal to the MAGA crowd, because its more important to win, so everyone just needs to fall in line.

So its definitely gonna be at least a net loss for everyone.

what the f*** is the safety net for the House of Lords?

The safety net for the House of Lords is that they can't make any legislation. The are literally just there to check for issues from the actual elected officials, and there are methods to remove these people if they aren't following their jobs (they can in Canada at least). My civics class called it a "sober second thought"

lzual posted...
Just out of curiosity, in the US can the senate block a law indefinitely or are there mechanism for laws being pushed through if the senate keep on blocking?

I think there are technically ways for the President to just force something through if the senate just refuses to hear it, but I don't know a time its been done off the top of my head. I remember the topic came up a bit back in 2015 because the Senate was blocking Obama's Supreme Court pick, but I don't know if that fizzled out because it couldn't be done or because Obama didn't want to rock the boat.

lzual posted...
I agree. The downside is that while they are meant to be "impartial" they really aren't. There are 257 Tory elected peers vs 177 Labour which makes sense considering Tories have been in power for almost 15 years. Plus the awful "cash for honours" scandal that happened in 2000s.

This is a fair point. I think something like this would be a little better if they weren't lifetime appointments, but that might make things more politicized. Although I could say in defence that at least the 257 Tory lords at least have more ability to reject the party line, since they effectively have job security.

I know in Canada the party you belong to can technically remove you and fill your seat with someone else if they don't like you enough. I can't think of an excuse of this happening, and removing the person might trigger another election, but there's a very strong incentive to follow the party line that the Senate doesn't really need to deal with once they get appointed.

Its definitely not a perfect solution though

I'd be happy if they modernised it or replaced it with something more like the German or US systems. This is why I was pushing UR so far because I still feel like new legislature should be scrutinised rather than, in this case, the house of commons, to unilaterally dictate what does and doesn't pass.

The Senate in Canada is somewhat similar, except we don't have any noble families to get grandfathered into roles like this.

Theres an argument that unelected representatives can be good in the case that they can be somewhat impartial and not dogged down by needing to follow the party you belong to.

appointments instead of elections can theoretically prevent things like how the Senate in the US just refused to ever pass anything under Trump, or during his first impeachment voted to not allow evidence or have a real trial, because they were directly following the party line.

Gen 6 really suffered for basically having so many little things that would have been great with more detail or a more polished version.

The rival actually being upset that they keep losing to you would have been great if it actually lead to something, but it never went anywhere (not even as little as Hop did in Sw/Sh). All of the other characters had like one bit of personalization that should have gone farther, but didn't. Either that or 2 of them needed to be gone, and they could have actually focused on giving Shauna something to do.

Skipping cutscenes would make literally every game since XY much better though.

No, but there's more than enough context clues to say has a hand in it, and given impeachment is 100% a political move and not going to send Trump to prison even if everyone agrees Trump broke the law, it shouldn't matter if he directly says "lets attack the capital".

The fact that he's repeatedly stated the election is fake with no proof, the fact he's already been charged with incitement to riot before, the fact that he refused to release the National Guard 6 times during the events on Jan 6, or the fact that it began literally right after Trump gave a speech telling his crowd to "March on the capital" or even during the siege he was calling Mike Pence and co. deliberately trying to get them to stop the count.

There's so much context here, that if Trump can't get removed for this, I doubt anyone will ever be able to be justifiably removed again.

Agreed on the poor execution. Going all digital was a mistake, but only really since it was like 6 years before it really would've gone well. There were just a few too many classics on the PSP you just couldn't play without hacking it.

Although to be fair, they couldn't really slap extra shoulder buttons on the Go, since it was supposed to just be a variant of the PSP. And the OG PSP memory cards at least worked in some other Sony products, since like everything was proprietary in the early 2000s. My camera and PSP shared memory cards.

All the restructuring going on in late 2000/2001 if they weren't trying to scrap WCW it probably could have very easily just rolled over into TNA and then TNA would have been in a much better position its first couple years.

All of these had character reasons though. Kylo Ren is a scared little kid who refuses to actually learn from his failures and is instead lashing out at the world around him. Kylo isn't beyond redemption if he could kill Luke or crush the rebellion, he's beyond redemption because he keeps actively making these self-destructive choices.

I don't think the ST needed a big bad, it needed a suitable resolution for our main characters, and you didn't need a Uber-big bad and a drawn out CGI fight scene to do so.
