The writing was absolutely on the wall - they've spent the past year or so posting self-deprecating #savethevideostore memes - but damn, this still sucks. Video rental stores have a magic that streaming services just flat-out don't.

I'm inclined to say yes. It's amazing how much damage social media has done to society in such a relatively short period of time.

I guess one could get more specific and say "astroturfing," which is a massive problem on the internet, but astroturfing is mainly done on social media anyway.

I get the sense that Netflix makes liberal use of astroturfing. Like, this conversation ITT feels organic, but similar conversations on sites like Facebook and Reddit begin to feel very "public relations" very fast.

I just don't buy that there are THAT many people willing to vigorously defend every Netflix price hike, y'know?

I highly recommend Ring Fit Adventure. It's some of the most fun I've had playing a video game in years. It looks like a casual game and that's understandably off-putting to some, but the developers really went above and beyond to make it feel like a credible, ambitious game that even seasoned gamers can sink their teeth into. It also received a particularly good English localization.

Don't sleep on ARMS either, it's really underrated.

The South is backward & defiantly so. The Midwest is backward and thinks it's up to speed with the coasts.

I've lived in the South and Midwest, and my experience has been the opposite. Midwesterners tend to be very upfront about issues such as the opioid crisis and local prostitution, and use a lot of self-deprecating humor to describe their region. Southerners like to thump their chest about how the South is #1/not backwards at all and take concerns/criticisms super personal.

In the movie "Logan Lucky," there's a warden who denies any incident that happened at his prison. A fire breaks out? "We don't have fires at Monroe." That's pretty much how a lot of Southerners discuss their community issues... unfortunately, this includes many politicians and public figures.

I always think it's funny when people who spend 14 hours a day shitposting on CE will say that there's nothing to do in the Midwest. As if you'd be going out and doing things if there were.

I'm a boring person and I embrace that. I'm comfortable here in the Midwest and I'll be able to retire much earlier than I would in a higher COL place.

I really think you're on to something here. People can use their money however they want and I would never claim otherwise, but I don't understand the logic of these hardline introverts who insist on living somewhere "fashionable" like Seattle or Austin. Nothing against those cities at all, but they're expensive as shit and I can't see how they'd be worth the money unless you fully threw yourself into them.

As remote working opportunities continue to improve, I think more and more people will cozy up to the idea of spending some years in flyover America to achieve their financial goals more quickly.

This was a big ordeal in Kentucky as well in November/early December. Some restaurants flipped Gov. Beshear the bird and just kept their doors open, fines be damned; many more were indicating that they planned to defy an extension to the dine-in ordinance. (The extension ultimately didn't happen.)

@TheRealDill2000 hit the nail on the head, this kind of culture war was inevitable in the winter months without proper federal support. A lot of people have no doubt whittled through their "do it for the local businesses" money and motivation at this point, and outdoor dining isn't feasible (or at least enjoyable) in most of the country right now. Table heaters can only go so far.

whats a good spot to visit for someone that wants to see nature but also pretty boogie and too good for camping ha

You can see an awful lot in Sitka and Ketchikan just by hoofing it and maybe taking a bus ride here and there. Hell, you can literally walk right into Sitka's national park from downtown! The accommodations are nice as well, and if you want to delve deeper with "excursion"-type activities, the options are certainly there (for a price).

Cordova also has excursion options and a ski area in town that's lovely and surprisingly affordable. It makes for a great twist on experiencing Alaska. However, getting to any parks besides the ski area will almost assuredly require a car.

If you want to visit the big dogs like Denali National Park, you'll want to start in Anchorage or Fairbanks and go from there. Fortunately, those cities also have some great stuff in their own right.

Props to OP for giving Alaska and Florida the A-tier treatment. Though Alaska would absolutely be "S" for me.

West Virginia has some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth though, no way it belongs at the bottom. It also has a disproportionately high number of genuinely decent people who'll offer you the shirt off their backs. WV takes hospitality way more seriously than the "proper" South.

The worst I've been to is either Alabama or Kentucky. I actually liked Huntsville, AL a LOT but most of the state seems dreadful. Kentucky is kind of the opposite; most of the state is just bland rather than bad, and a few smaller towns like Elizabethtown and Georgetown are actually charming, but Louisville is such a dystopian shithole that I feel obligated to rank KY at the bottom out of principle.
