Thanks guys. I'll definitely start putting text on the photos and making sure they're in the "Video Game Accessories" category. If those methods don't help, I'll probably stop selling them with the exception of particularly valuable ones (like the Pokemon SoulSilver big box). I just can't keep risking negative feedback and such for an item that's $9.99 shipped.

Alright, so I've been selling on eBay for years now. It's been really helpful for downsizing my physical media collections and most customers are great. Sometimes, I'll have a game where the box/manual/inserts are in great condition but the game is either gone or not in working order. So I'll sell those items together in a listing specifically marked as not having the game. This is a common practice aimed at collectors who are trying to complete their copies. Sounds good, right?

Well, a disproportionate number of my listings like this have ended with an upset buyer who just can't believe the game isn't included. This is despite:

-The listing title starting with **CASE AND MANUAL ONLY, NO GAME** in all caps.

-The photos clearly not including the game.

-The listing description reaffirming that, no, the game is not included and this listing is for the case, inserts, etc. only.

Have I just been unlucky or am I genuinely doing something wrong here? I'd hate to chuck these cases and such, because I really hated when GameStop did that to their DS inventory. But man, these customers are bringing out my inner Frank Murphy.

TopicWas 2020 the worst year of your life?
TheCodeisBosco

Underleveled posted...
Personally, no.

On a worldly scale yes it was probably the worst year I've been alive for.

This sums it up well. 2020 was surely a disaster on the macro level, between COVID, civil unrest, the recession and everything else. But for me personally, I really can't complain at all. I managed to lead a fulfilling year where I cultivated stronger relationships with key people in my life (safely, of course!), tried various new things (including more exercise than years past) and graduated from a miserable grad school program. Really glad to have that behind me, and since the last year was pretty much fluff, it was just tedious instead of actually stressful.

November and December have left me wondering if the winds of change are blowing in my direction, but the rest of the year was very enjoyable for me.

My personal worst years were 2006, 2011 and 2018 in that order.

TopicWhat are your thoughts on the "Midwest" region of the USA?
TheCodeisBosco
12/28/20 3:46:39 AM

In a word, underrated. There are several cities I really like in the Midwest: chief among them are Indianapolis, Wichita and especially Kansas City. The cost of living tends to be low throughout the region, there are some excellent choices for higher education interspersed throughout, and people tend to be more decent and hospitable than in the Northeast or South.

If I could lay my roots anywhere in the country and money wasn't a factor, I'd pick the PNW or Texas. But I definitely couldn't complain about a life in the cities I mentioned earlier.

Anyone else notice that Christmas music gets a lot less hate now? People always complained about it when I was growing up, kids and adults alike, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I think it has to do with people spending less time as "captive audiences" for it, between the rise of online shopping and COVID.

Emeraldegg posted...
For starters, what is your stance on I guess, correct "protocol" for just like giving to someone on the street if you are approached by someone? I'm not asking for whether you do or not personally, I'm not here to shame anyone that doesn't. But like, the specifics of my discussion was that I personally have a policy where I am more than willing to get the actual physical thing requested of the person (IE food) instead of giving them actual money (within my means), because I don't believe people are trustworthy enough that I can just give them money and they won't use it for "less helpful" purposes. Do you think this is too cynical of me? It's not like I will refuse to help someone within my means based on this skepticism right off the bat, but like I had a guy a while back ask for money so he could get food literally across the street, and I offered to go get the food for him, basically taking his order, and he declined. Is it "okay" of me to then decline to give them the requested money? The person I was discussing this with described this mindset as borderline victim-shaming. Is that truly what I'm doing? If so, I need to re-evaluate my thought process.

Playing devil's advocate here - some would argue that homeless people decline these offers because there's a chance their food could be fucked with. Now, I think that's generally a bad-faith argument given how readily available packaged/sealed food is, but I digress.

Anyway, you did nothing wrong and being called a "borderline victim-shamer" for that is utterly egregious. That's something I would expect from a naive person in their teens/early twenties who has spent very little time around homelessness.

The only bad thing is, as late releases, they had smaller print runs and are now pricey.

I also really like Super Monkey Ball Jr., they did a commendable job translating the charm of the GameCube experience to the GBA.
