Saying "a console should have X amount of good exclusives before buying" kinda narrows the perspective a lot as well. Sometimes you just need one really good one. Many people bought the Switch at launch just for Zelda. Can you blame them?

Nobody doesn't believe that you don't own an Xbox lol, it's just dumb to say that there's no incentive to buy an Xbox because so many games are "multiplatform". How many times I have to mention that not everyone owns a gaming PC, and therefore games like Forza and Halo are in fact just as exclusive as something like Uncharted or Gravity Rush? I also think it's dumb to judge the console based on the currently revealed titles. Did people already forget how lame the last few generations were with launch titles? It'll balance out before long. Not like the PS5 has anything that's a system seller to the average consumer anyway. Nobody's gonna realistically spend $500-600 on Ratchet and Clank.

If you're an exclusives hypebeast then of course the PS5 is always gonna be the default pick. But with the increasing amount of exclusives making their way to PC and even the other consoles, it's becoming a less and less great excuse to pick one and you know it. That's when stuff like the controller, the UI, the performance, the stuff you think that doesn't matter, matters.

I think it says a lot about Xbox 360 that despite the RRoD being such a thing, it still remained most people's go-to console long afterwards, especially during the 2011 ApocalyPS3, which I experienced firsthand

I do have a PS2 that still works to this day even after me taking it apart to remove a jammed disc, so they really don't make them like they used to anymore.

The fact that it was the first time a major console was famous for bricking, brings it down though. You can't speak of a quality product when it cost the manufacturer over a billion dollars to fix the problem. It's a big part of why Sony ended up with a lot more marketshare than they had earned. In terms of hardware last gen was a bit of a joke. 300-500 dollar machines bricking, tons of errors, low performance, gimmicks,...

Ironically my PS4 Pro is trash, disc drive is fucked so you have to slap the top of the system to get the disc to spin properly. My One X is going strong almost 3 years later in comparison

Yeah, but can you really call anyone a winner that gen? The Wii probably has the worst library of all major consoles, the 360 was a meme due to RROD and the PS3 was the weirdest piece of hardware ever to develop for. In terms of hardware stability combined with sales the Wii was probably the most reliable of the bunch, but I wouldn't really call a massive gimmick coming out on top a "win" either.

360 was the control standard for console development and because of its easy infrastructure many of the big games are now playable on Xbox One, I'd say it came out on top that gen in terms of "quality"

Well, yeah, that's it. I can play virtually "every Xbox and 360 game" that matters through PS Now, PSN, or PS4 itself. I'm looking forward to the PS5 for exactly what you mentioned, but Microsoft will be lucky if they can turn out anything as descriptively good as what you've described for the PS5. The Xbone was a failure that the Wii U slapped the shit out of gamewise, and the Series X looks to be more of the same- completely failing on exclusive games, but at least they have some decent services.

Sounds like you haven't used PS Now a lot, because being able to download a handful of PS4 games is nothing compared to Game Pass, which is funny because they only allowed direct downloads entirely based on Game Pass's success. It's the Netflix of games, in both presentation and function. Streaming PS3 games is atrocious no matter how good your internet is; my gigabit connection still showed latency so imagine how it is for people on worse internet. No DLC or offline access either, and all the games available on PS Now are old. Hmm, buy God of War 4 for as low as $10 or stream it for around the same price? So tricky

The difference comes from two interpretations of the English spelling of her Japanese name, pronounced "Earisu." The original Final Fantasy 7 localization team transliterated this to Aeris, but that spelling missed the fact that her name is meant to be a near-anagram of the word "earth." Aerith has a strong connection with Final Fantasy 7's world, after all, so the "th" spelling is more fitting to the creators' original vision of associating her with the planet.

Xbox is usually fairly more generous in their sales than Sony too, so I'm sure most digital libraries can fill up fast

You said "excellent" exclusives though. I counted exactly 10 non-multiplatform games in Metacritic's top 30 PS4 games. Wanna take a wild guess where the other 201 are?

You claim that you're an Xbox fan (yeah fucking right) and yet don't understand the value in having more games available on more platforms without any red tape. Why some people would rather have all their games available on a single console with reliable physical media they can use for years to come. Don't feel obligated to buy a PS5 because you feel like you're missing out, because Sony knows that's really all they have right now.

My backlog will keep me entertained until then. I can wait. People treat these Sony exclusives like orgasmic gold, when there's many alternate options. There's nothing special about Uncharted that isn't offered in Tomb Raider. There's just such an egotistical backing of Sony's collection of games that no one else can play that people get an alpha boner for them like it's god-tier gaming above everything else. Thankfully we live in an era of hundreds of hundreds other games are released annually to give us options and not limit us to the 0.2% of exclusives PS fans excessively praise.

And like I mentioned before, for everyone critically acclaimed PS4 exclusive I can dig up one 6/7 out of 10 one that's been memoryholed

No shit not everyone wants a gaming PC. Gaming PCs are for "hardcore gamer" types. The thing you're missing is that those same "hardcore gamer" types are the same people that buy $500 consoles. Which is to say, people like me. It's not like I don't want the Xbox Series X to be good. I'd happily buy it if there was value there. But I'm not seeing it. Saying "Well it'll have a better UI" is absurd. I'm not dropping $500 on a UI.

The PS4 has a "good enough" UI because it has no incentive to improve. That's why the shit looks unchanged from 2013, despite the occasional good idea gaining traction online. The UI matters because it's your primary way to interact with the console. I've never heard anyone say "gosh I wish the PS4 always had to copy massive update files before they installed them" or "I love having to go to the media folder to access YouTube all the way at the end"

All the things your bragging about have very little to do with games. Are you buying a console to look at the dashboard or are you trying to play games?

If you buy consoles solely based on exclusives....then chances are you never were interested in the Xbox to begin with.

Except, Xbox's list of exclusives this gen have all done pretty well to critical feedback. Forza Horizon 4 is either the highest rated game in the series or the highest rated Xbox exclusive this gen, one of the two. Maybe both. Gears and Halo 5, for all the sobbing and crying people have made about it, have also stood up to critical and most user reviews. Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Rare Replay, Ori 2? Banger x4.

Ironically, I can think of PS4 exclusive bombs way easier as I can the critically acclaimed ones. Order 1886, Days Gone, Knack, Killzone, LBP3 sucked in comparison to the first two. A lot of current multiplats had to get moved over to PS4 after lots of bitching and moaning.

And I mentioned all those "things" because unless you only interact with the console when you turn it on and off, chances are that there are some things that pisses off PS4 users about the way the system interacts. I can think of many things that have gotten significantly more annoying since launch. In comparison, the Xbox UI has only gotten better and better.

Ironically, if you're just buying the system to play any and all games the Series S/X is still probably the better buy, since the more powerful hardware means that multiplat games will probably look the best on them between the two.

The og Xbox was amazing, the 360 was alright, but they haven't done anything right with their current and next gen consoles.

Bruh I switched from the PS4 to the Xbox mid-gen and I have no regrets, there's plenty of reasons outside of the games

Xbox has a better UI across the board, especially now that they updated their store UI. Sorting games is less dumb. You can access apps and certain games without going through dumb splash screens or dedicated media folders. Get a theming app and download custom themes for free.

Ridiculous amount of backwards compatibility. Frame rate and resolution enhancements on some of them too, so you get more than just consolidation with some of them. No gimmicks either, if you have the disc, just pop it in.

Better party chat. Little overlays to tell who exactly who is talking if you're playing with strangers. Reputation system to tell who has a history of being toxic. You can invite people AS you create the party, not AFTER.

I've gotten probably $50 in Microsoft reward points simply by playing games and earning achievements. That's actual cash you can use in the Xbox Store. No gimmicks, aside from some of the "mission" based ones.

Course, these are all things that have nothing to do with "muh exclusives", but it all adds up over time and I think the overall experience is more important for considering your primary console

In the Series S/X case, you have 3 massive libraries out of the box you can play right away, so it's a bit of futureproofing

Especially consider how many people who didn't get an Xbox One that might get the Series S/X, that's a lot of exclusives to cover before the actual console exclusives start coming out
