Topic | Why doesn't Sony just sell all their initial PS5 consoles themselves? |
Monopoman 09/17/20 11:57:36 PM #5 | A lot of these retailers would be pissed to miss out on the first batch of a product like this, part of the deal retailers have with companies like Sony is they will offer them products to sell. If Sony takes the first 3 months of consoles sold that is a lot of money they miss out on. Not to mention people buying other stuff to go with the console in the store. I also have a feeling Sony doesn't want to deal with shipping them all out one by one. If they really enjoyed that they would just have their own online store like Amazon and sell their own products there exclusively. |

Monopoman 09/16/20 3:27:39 AM #28 | Sahuagin posted... li-ion batteries are designed to deactivate if they run too low on charge, because there are safety mechanisms in the battery that rely on having a charge. once parts of the battery deactivate, they never reactivate. so, when you let the charge get too low, they will permanently lose chunks of charge depending how low you let it get. You can charge a Switch either like a normal thing like a modern phone or with the stand, both of them work. If it only charged with the stand that would be a real pain in the ass to bring with you in case you need to charge it. The stands main function is to let you use the Switch with a TV and the charging is just a nice bonus. |
Topic | Attn: Switch Owners |
Monopoman 09/15/20 10:45:53 PM #17 | Yeah if you are rough with the charging port you can damage it, my little brothers used to break phones often because they would be rough unplugging or plugging them in. Same thing can happen to cords that charge it they can get frayed or damaged with use depending. Anyways I had to get my PS3 repaired back in like 2010, I sent it to Sony and it ended up being far cheaper than buying a used one or a new one even thought it was past the warranty. |
Topic | Attn: Switch Owners |
Monopoman 09/15/20 9:30:23 PM #10 | The only way this sounds like it could actually damage the switch is if it got water damage while in the case which is unlikely. The other possibility is excessive heat which could damage it even if it was turned off. Excessive dust could be another factor but again unless the case was dusty as heck this sounds very tough. The only way to know for sure is contact Nintendo and send it in for repairs or something like that. They would be able to identify the problem, and the repair might be covered under warranty depending. |

Looking at audience reviews for a movie with such controversial content is usually rough, because tons will rate it 1 out of 10 to protest the movie without watching it and judging it fairly. Monopoman 09/14/20 3:26:53 AM #24 | LinkPizza posted... I never said cheaper made it better. I'm not actually sure where you got that from, tbh... My problem with the price is being affordable. You mentioned it would get cheaper in the future. But I was saying that more affordable doesn't mean affordable. Well it is a unique thing I mean right now it's super exclusive to say you have been in space, I think some might do it just to tell others they did. Anyways I stand by the fact that 15-20k is reasonable for some, again it's based on how much that person makes if they are bringing in $250k a year 15-20k is not a big deal if they are making $30k a year it's a lot more. Obviously over time it will get more feasible for the average american but if someone saved up for it for a decade or so even with a moderate income of say $30k they could get it done. The only person that would save for it that long though would really really want to go up there it would be a big deal to them. |
Topic | Space tourism |
Monopoman 09/14/20 3:16:23 AM #22 | LinkPizza posted... Sure. It's more affordable. But more affordable doesn't exactly mean affordable. I feel the same about the sex change operation. It's more affordable than it was, but I still wouldn't call it affordable. Many people do struggle with making enough to get it. My point was just because something is technically cheaper doesn't make it the best. Shit if people used a bicycle to get around town they would save money on gas, and upkeep on a car but you see people choose to drive mostly. Even when traveling less than a few miles people mostly don't use a bicycle to get there unless their goal is to get exercise. Also $15-20k is irrelevant to some and a fortune to others, that is just the nature of the world. I sure as fuck couldn't afford a Rolex watch but for some people they could buy that thing on a whim. |

Monopoman 09/14/20 2:43:05 AM #19 | LinkPizza posted... That does mean they are going to make it in time. There are so many things that still can go wrong. And cost that will have to be covered. And the fact that it has to be affordable for what it is. Many people would want to see or go somewhere. If there is still nowhere to go, then the affordable price drops. That being said, I don't really see $15-20k range as affordable. Just because people can save up that much doesn't mean it's affordable. But I also don't see it dropping to that price. Or the 2070 equivalent... If you are waiting for the day it can match regular air travel in price you are talking more like 2100-2120 or later, most likely I mean right now I can get to NY for about $500 from where I live if I wanted a ticket to get me there in a few days. I said $15-20k is feasible for someone that has a life goal of wanting to do it, far better than the $1-2 million or more it is right now. It's the same as getting a sex change operation that is a huge waste of money for most of us but someone that wanted their entire life to be the opposite sex it's worth it. I never said $15k was nothing and people would do it for fun at that price. Shit even in the year 2120 it will likely still be cheaper to use regular air travel just do to the nature of the travel. I mean right now it's cheaper to walk somewhere then get on a plane, but that doesn't mean people use walking to get to places far away. It can also be cheaper to drive somewhere then fly assuming you drive there straight on and don't add to the expense with hotel stays etc.. |

Monopoman 09/14/20 2:23:12 AM #15 | LinkPizza posted... Sure. But why do you think it would start that low? Wouldn't it start off insanely expensive first? It already has started off insanely expensive right now it takes millions to get up there. Also I said $15-20k in todays dollars with inflation that will likely be 3-4 times more when converted into 2070 dollars. |
Topic | Space tourism |
Monopoman 09/14/20 2:16:10 AM #13 | LinkPizza posted... Why do you think it would be that low? Because even air travel used to be stupidly expensive until they made a more modern plane. 40-50 years is a fuck ton of time in the modern world. Shit 50 years ago we didn't have any of the following. Cell Phones and Smart Phones Game Consoles The Internet Personal Computers Smart Phones Tablet Computers Floppy Discs VHS DVD GPS Blu-Ray Streaming Microwaves for personal use etc... So yeah, if you were transported 50 years into the future right now you would likely not even recognize the technology created in that time. |

Monopoman 09/14/20 1:29:18 AM #9 | ParanoidObsessive posted... If space travel qualitatively advances at all (and there's no guarantee it will), the focus will almost certainly be on industrial exploitation and technological benefits. Even a robust private space program isn't likely to prioritize recreational tourism except as a novelty reserved for the very, very wealthy. I said it would be in the $15-20k range of today's dollars by 40-50 years from now. By the time 40ish years passes despite what you say a lot of us will be alive in 40-50 years. It would be one thing if no company was trying to get this shit done but we have multiple companies working to make space travel more feasible. At 15k plenty that want to do it will make it happen, I mean shit people save up for stuff like sex change operations or boob jobs and those can cost just as much. There was a time when computers took up entire high school gymnasiums and cost tens of thousands of dollars. At that time most would have scoffed at anyone ever owning a computer for personal use or a day when a phone could have more power than that computer by a factor of 1000's. |

We'll all likely be dead before it ever becomes a thing for anyone other than the richest humans on Earth, so it's not like it matters to any of us. Well already those willing to throw a few million dollars at space travel can get up there right now. I think another 40-50 years will make it more accessible but still we are probably talking $15-20k per person at the very least. I think the biggest reason we haven't seen a large push is because for the most part, there is not much of a point to it beyond the novelty and it being cool to be out in space. Once we have more reasons to go into space that will open it up more to being a more normal thing. Like if on Mars there was cool sites to see etc.. and getting there wasn't too complicated or time consuming. The reason why people travel for fun is to see shit, you go to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower, you go to NYC to see the State of Liberty. Right now going up in space beyond checking out earth from a distance isn't much. |

Monopoman 09/14/20 12:00:46 AM #60 | Unbridled9 posted... Ummm... What on earth are you even talking about? It's the exact opposite. The right's remained solid and, if anything, has been moving left with it becoming far more accepting of homosexuality and other such things while the left is literally the party marching around screeching to end the police and demanding communism. The reason Trump won can be summarized in just one moment. If all you think the left issues are is about BLM and gay rights you are correct but the left supports a lot more about what Bernie is saying and in other countries the Democratic party would be considered more right wing than their left party. Take a look outside the USA bubble dude, if your only reference is Democrat vs. Republican in the USA then things look like that. When you look at countries like England, France etc... you start seeing the Democrats are nowhere near the far left. Also the Republican party is approaching fascism and more authoritarian government and this is why I say they are moving right. Trump is the most fascist leader the USA has ever had period. |
Topic | In what reality does Trump not win this election? |
Monopoman 09/13/20 8:50:08 PM #42 | The fact of the matter is the democratic party despite what the most right wing try to paint it as is a fairly middle of the line party. Bernie was too radical to ever win the nomination period, while the Democrats might be liberal in comparison to the Repub's looking at them in the grand scheme of things they are nowhere near as left as Bernie was. So we have a party that continues to move further and further to the right in the Republican party, and one that leans slightly to the left for the most part in the Democratic party. I think people are getting too caught up in the most hardcore followers of candidates though, Bernie bros were nowhere near a large enough sector of people to win if they were they would have had him have a slam dunk nomination in the primaries. I also think the biggest reason Trump won was because of Cambridge Analytica, they used extremely nefarious means to find out all they could about voters in key battleground states then bombarded them with bullshit to slowly convert them over time. A very interesting documentary that goes into great detail about the 2016 election and the rise of Cambridge Analytica is The Great Hack from 2019 I believe it is on Netflix it's a great documentary. |

Those people are an extremely small part of those that might vote for him, shit he is the first president to have a higher disapproval rating than approval rating throughout most of his presidential term. Overall it seems people don't like him and basing America off that less than 1% that love the dude is a joke. |
Topic | Trump tells NC voters to vote twice - again |
Monopoman 09/13/20 4:33:42 PM #40 | I'm sure that if everyone voted twice it would be a nightmare for the voting system, having to go through and remove everyone's second vote sounds rough. Even if they have it automated somewhat, 99.99999% of all votes are counted on the first one it's not like we have a massive problem with votes not being counted. I doubt the voting system is setup to automatically find voters that vote twice since very few people have ever voted twice. Once again Trump just loves to overstate the problems with the voting system by changing the factor by 10 or 100 of how big of a problem it is. He takes a problem that affects an extremely small amount of people and acts like it happens to half of the people. |

Beanie Babies were huge for like 7-8 years which is typical of a flash in the pan and temporary collectible, once the desire for them went out they crashed hard. Meanwhile other collectibles have stood the test of time, old useful MTG cards have for the most part only gone up. Very old baseball cards of note have also for the most part only gone up. Very old and sought after comic books have for the most part only gone up. The problem is people get bought into hype on a hot new collectible or in baseball cards instance heavily investing in new baseball cards that were being flooded into the market and then they get burned once people stop caring. |

Monopoman 09/11/20 3:25:21 AM #15 | Zeus posted... Based on what, exactly? She was a governor, she had been a mayor, and she had smaller roles in government. Obama had been a senator for about as long as she'd been a governor and had been a state senator for about as long as she'd been a mayor (and had no political experience prior to that). And keep in mind that the presidency is a executive-level position -- just like governors and mayors -- whereas the senate and state senate are both legislative positions. Obama's qualifications were as scant as Palin's. I was speaking about her in a presidential thing like if McCain died, and then she was put in charge. Not speaking about her as a VP when a VP doesn't do really jack shit of importance until the President dies in most cases. In most cases being VP is like being a princess or a prince in the British royal family you just stand around and look pretty and do public events. |
