Right, but since you have to do the Shines in a set order, you end up having to collect a set number of Shines to unlock the final level anyway since I'm pretty sure you can't sequence break on Shadow Mario. But the number of Shines doesn't matter at all for beating the game. You need 43 Shines to unlock the last level (unless more sequence breaks are found), but that doesn't mean any set of 43 Shines is enough. That's fair, it's hard to say how voters will end up believing. I just think the big takeaway from all this should be that voters don't actually care about bipartisanship as much as whether things feel bipartisan. A lot of Democrats seem to be expect that if they don't work with the GOP (which won't happen) then they'll end up facing a massive electoral backlash like in 2010, but that's not inevitable as long as they focus on less polarizing issues. (OK, they'll still probably lose both houses of Congress in 2022 no matter what they do, but that's just because the system favors the GOP.) --- Congrats to 2020 GotD Guru champ azuarc! |

The levels tend to have variation between shines and it makes much more sense from a design perspective to put them in separate instances. There's nothing inherently wrong with having shines in a required order, but it leads to other minor problems. The differences between episodes mean collectables aren't always there; it's incredibly irritating to try for a 100-coin shine only to find out the episode you picked doesn't have enough coins, or to have to search every individual episode of a level to find the random blue coin you still need. And because you unlock the last boss by beating episode 7 of each level, you don't have much flexibility in choosing which shines you get. Sunshine has about 50 shines (ignoring sequence breaks) that are required no matter how much you'd rather not do them; compare that to SM64, where there's only one star that's absolutely required to beat the game normally. --- Congrats to 2020 GotD Guru champ azuarc! |
