The game definitely has fun parts, and I got into the combat bigtime after some fits and starts at the beginning. But it also just pointlessly jerks you around so goddamned much and so often. It also completely fails in the opposite direction from what Midgar was in the original, and that's even with the advantage of not having to deal with horrid 90s Square localization problems. Midgar was supposed to set the game up, introduce you to the main characters, and then be a stepping stone to a world-spanning plot.
