Finally started playing this yesterday and it is SO FUN. Only on 3* Village, finally broke away from the LS and I'm using the Glaive. Also tested out and had fun with the HH and LBG but I'll focus on those two later.

While there's convo going on here, I'll go ahead and ask my own question:

I'm really keen on this series, I really liked what I played of 2 and liked 1. The main thing for me is it got to be a pain to be constantly hovering over a guide so I could recruit everyone, but I felt obligated to for that true ending. That's pretty much why I ended up wandering away from 2. Is it still fairly enjoyable if I let go of the character recruitment guide? I'm the type that tends to play a game just once.

With so many characters to recruit, I'd hope battles feature at least like 5 party members on the screen at a time to really take advantage of such a feature.

All of the main ones but 4 has six-person parties. 4 has four people.

Suikoden 1 is decent, Suikoden 2 is a big improvement though I haven't finished it yet.

It does have a lot of characters and you need all of them to get the true ending for each game, which is pretty different from the normal ending.

The choices are endlessly complex.

Gen Ultimate is still king with content, I'm with you in that I feel both will still be getting played.

Like you just said, it's a remake, portraits are part of that. Save the Homeland, A Wonderful Life, Magical Melody, Tree of Tranquility, and Animal Parade (the last original console one before Olive Town) all lacked portraits.

I know I already posted, but just to emphasize, I literally won't buy the game without the character portraits. It's such a baseline aspect of any text-heavy game nowadays, that watching footage of this game without it is almost jarring lol.

It's not going to have portraits, none of the console ones have them. They just need to fix the camera. This *really* isn't a text-heavy game series, either. >_>

It's almost a straight port of the original (GBA) in terms of content, so it's on the nice and simple side. If you're wanting something like the more modern entries with more customization and things to unlock and do for a long time, it won't scratch the itch, but if you're cool with a simple and addictive farm/life sim with a famous cast of characters, snag it.

It's in dire need of fixing, which they're not even done with it yet after the March patch. Plus the DLC is going throughout the year and will be including new areas, while the base game has your farm and the town. That's it.

I ain't touching this for a while, I'm plenty happy with my Trio replay and Rune Factory.

yes! It looks a lot better and the backgrounds are so nice. Not only that but there are bugfixes, as well. And I *think* it has redone music but you can opt out of that if you want. Also I don't think the mod doesn't work Game Pass versions. Not sure how that works (or doesn't lol).

I thought Monster Hunter World was alright, but I stopped playing after I beat the campaign. I just don't have any interest in grinding monsters over and over to get better gear in the end game.

Is this supposed to be bigger than World was?

I think with leaks and such it's going to start with 40-something monsters and 5 maps, iirc. I only played on one map in the demo but it was really nice--large and nice to run/jump around in but it wasn't a pain in the ass like a lot of World maps. In general I want to say Rise seems like a really good blend between classic MH and World.

That Collector's Edition looks really cool. I think I'm going to be really fond of Magnamalo! I didn't play the second demo for myself but I saw plenty of gameplay from others who did.

I probably won't, but not because the game looks bad or anything. I actually think it looks pretty good. I just have a rule that I only pick up a new Monster Hunter every few titles because I would spend all of my free time playing just Monster Hunter if I got each new one when they came out.

That's the smart thing to do, to wait for later. Especially when the "ultimate" content comes out.
