I've been excited for this for years. Trio of Towns has been my favorite entry and I've looked forward to something similar to that in terms of gameplay, content, NPC interaction. So it recently came out in Japan and I planned on keeping an eye on the subreddit for importer and Japanese player thoughts. This morning...yikes. So:

• No portraits. Which I initially thought wasn't a problem--I loved Animal Parade. But with this game and the camera angles, you mostly see the top of their heads. I've seen a few comments now of how you're basically talking to Ralph's hat most of the time
• A lot of transition screens that all come with long loading times. And lag. Lag everywhere
• Dialogue is a huge step down, though this one could be fixed if XSEED throws in a lot of spice for the English localization
• You faint before you're event out of hearts/stamina
• Tools are clunky to use
• Makers only make things one at a time
• Same for cooking, and cooking also takes 30 minutes
• If you pet your animals, you automatically shave them. Which I guess is fine, because...
• There are no animal festivals. Or harvest festivals. Or cooking festivals. Other festivals, like the egg hunting one, are just short cutscenes instead of gameplay
• Grass needs water to grow ~_~

Among other smaller things like inventory size and tree/rock spawn rate, etc. etc. And in general I'm really doubtful of the overall content, since someone got a guide for it and it's half of what the guide for Trio of Towns is. I'll still keep an eye on things to see how it develops, but damn if my heart doesn't feel low right now.

Hopefully you enjoy well enough to try 2, as well. 2 I'd argue as being a legitimately pretty good game.

I'm still pretty new to the Dragon Warrior/Quest series. One of my gaming related goals for the year is to play as many of the mainline games as I can.

Good luck! It's worth it imo. It's a really charming series

I'm glad you're liking Ni No Kuni so much, despite it being out of your element. I loved it, myself. I tried playing 2 and while it has improved gameplay, it just lacked a certain charm that 1 had, in my opinion.

Currently playing Dragon Quest 11.

Before that I played Dragon Warrior 7, which was by far the longest game I've ever played.

Oh god, 7 is REALLY long. I didn't play it until we got the 3DS remake but whoo lad. Fun game, though. Are those the only two you've played so far? I'm also very partial to 5 and 8, but I still have others to play.

And I'm all over the place after I beat Ys 9. Can't find anything that holds my attention long. I was playing Hyrule Warriors AoC until my switch died, and I've been out of power so can't do that anymore

Yes, back to back lol. And I still had an Ys-shaped hole in my heart so I went back to Zwei 2. It *kind of* scratches that itch. Falcom has a distinct style. But yeah, I liked IX a lot. While I feel VIII has better exploration environments, it feels more fun to explore in IX. Overall I give a slight edge to VIII, just due to the emotional attachment it created with the overall cast and especially Dana.

I'm replaying Chrono Trigger and Twilight Princess and starting FF7 remake (haven't beat the Scorpion Boss yet) and yeah I'm enjoying all three.

I want to try Twilight Princess myself sometime later this year. I remember attempting it on the GC and I dropped it pretty early.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 <3 I was pretty happy to see Pyra confirmed for Smash. Persona 5 Strikers sure is tempting, I've heard very positive things about it!

Yes, got into the game watching some streamers also play and learn the game. The game went on sale that weekend. Bought it back then & havent stopped playing. I got just over 400 hours in the game. I play on multiple servers mainly because i hate the night times in the game lol

Holy cow that's a lot of time lol. When it comes to open world multiplayer survival games, I think I like the concept of them more than I like actually playing them.

I returned to Age of Calamity recently after stopping back in November. I only had a couple more story missions to complete the game, but I have a lot of trouble sticking to games all the way through these days. So that's the reason I stopped primarily, since I loved (and am still enjoying) AoC. Also didn't help that the last side mission I did prior to taking a break was a certain training mission that a lot of people seem to struggle with, including myself.

I've also been playing a bit of Super Mario RPG randomizer.

I want to try that one but all the hubbub about the performance issues have me feeling on the fence about it. I've seen some clips of cutscenes and it looks really cool, and I hear it focuses more on the story side of things, which appeals to me.

Was going to make another Ys topic since I just finished IX but eh, opted for general video game chat instead for more convo options. I'm going to start Omori tonight, see if it holds up to this hype and Overwhelmingly Positive rating it has on Steam.
