dumb aliens is a long standing trope, and the only reason every alien invasion movie you've ever seen doesn't end with humanity destroyed.
Coincidentally, most movies with "dumb" aliens are also pretty dumb movies. Some of them are saved in other respects (Like Independence Day due to Smith, Goldblum, and better tonal match of the story), but they're still dumb movies. They stay within their wheelhouse though.

You can write good, smart alien fiction. It's just probably not going to involve aliens invading the Earth and kidnapping people.

It's a fine film.
"Just don't think about it. It's a fine film, just don't think about all the stupid decisions the director made and it's good".

It is not a good film. A good film tells a story without expecting more from its audience than it earns. Why is this intersolar species of aliens abducting people by sneaking around children's birthday parties like the fucking Hamburglar? Why are they wearing no protective gear if they're on a strange planet AND weak against water, which covers 70% of the planets surface? How are these advanced aliens foiled by a fucking pantry door? And then it becomes so fucking apparent that these aliens have no idea what they're doing that they just fucking leave. Great story. Wow. Bravo.

It has decent acting, and some of the visuals are fine, and there's other good components to it, but on the whole the basic premise is a mess. Just utter incompetence.

No, they don't. That would be insanity. You slot your stars into the major storylines, you give your stars lots of promos, and you give your stars long matches near the top of the card.

A jobber can be gainfully employed for a long time. They can wrestle a lot of matches. But there's a difference between wrestling 200 matches that are 6 minutes long in the dark matches and bottom undercard and wrestling 300 matches that are building towards Pay-Per-View cards and main evenets.

No, jobber's don't get the second most screen time in the show. Jobbers are dudes who hang around the roster who's only purpose is to get into the ring and lose. Perhaps if the only way you can conceptualize media like this is a win record then you could make a really poor argument, but clearly Vegeta's narrative role fulfills WAY more than a jobber's burden--Goku's rival, Goku's training partner, a foil to Goku's personality, plus a dynamic character arc where he went from a geneocidal maniac under the employ of a space tyrant to a caring father, husband, and protector of the planet he originally appeared to destroy.

The dudes that lost to Hulk Hogan weren't jobbers just because they almost always lost to him. They played an important role in the storylines that were being told.

The closest to a jobber is probably Yamcha. The audience isn't intended to invest in him, and he's an easy character for any minion or mook to beat up to prove a point. Tien is the next closest. Krillin tends to lose a lot but he is more important to the story than just proving the power of the bad guys.

They do savory snacks really well in particular imo. A lot of rice, corn, and potato stuff with great crunchiness, lots of phenomenal flavors, and lots of varied approaches to spiciness (As opposed to the west which is mostly just Jalapenos, Habeneros, some Chilis, and "extreme" peppers).

Really, I think the only savory snack line in the West that compares is Doritos. They really push the flavors a bit more and their corn chip stands out in texture from it's peers (LOTS of potato chips and crisps, basically).

His "joke movies"? Basically every movie he's ever been successful in involves him being a lunatic. If he tries to do anything outside of that wheelhouse it's either campy or just plain bad.

Granted, he makes a great lunatic, but most movies where he can't rely on that crutch he usually puts in an unimpressive or, at the very least, tonally stilted performance. Having a couple good performances scattered in between a career of absurd or erratic performances doesn't make someone a "good actor". And "good" performances for Nic still just look like acting. They look like someone thinking about how they should visually and audibly project, instead of someone feeling and embracing the characters motivations. I hesitate to even call it "old school" acting when he's in more reserved because he often starts to lose screen presence the more tame his characters are.

The man has a specific wheelhouse. He can chew the scenery with the best of them. It's incredible when he does. But don't start inflating his range or talent now.

That's nice.

If the Judge uses his discretion to allow the boy to take the stand and testify, in person, to the jury, he must then be allowed to be questioned, in person, by the defense.

Now, should he have allowed this? That's another matter. And depends of the relevant case law from that jurisdiction, as well as what is allowed via judicial discretion.
This is a decision reached by the Supreme Court, local case law is irrelevant. It's not as if the kid gave testimony before they even thought if he should be cross-examined in front of (or by) his father--The judge made the (Disturbing) choice that the psychological health and development of a child was less important than the least valuable component of the right to confrontation--A choice which historically other jurisdictions would not make to be frank.

Now, should he have allowed this? This is the entire point. No. It's abundantly clear to any professional observer that he shouldn't. Which is the point of the article. Which is the point of my first post. Which is why I find it so detestable that you could even find it within your head to take a condescending tone with your post. That's real "nice". Not smart. Not useful. But "nice".
