Shaq is a in tough spot saying something like this, considering he played 70 or more games in only 7 of his 20 seasons.

Maybe if there were more days to rest between games, he wouldn't have missed 15-20 games a year.

As a Mets fan, I hate having to defend this every year.

Yes, on the surface, this has an "lolmets" vibe to it, but when you look into this, it actually wasn't a bad decision.

It gave them the payroll flexibility to build the team that made it to the NLCS in 1999 and World Series in 2000.

To add, once they like Mike Hampton walk, the compensation draft pick they got was used to draft David Wright.

And finally, pretty much every team has deferred money on their books. And this isn't even the worst one.

In 1984 Bruce Sutter signed a 6 year, $9.6 million contract. $4.8 of it was deferred money at 13% interest that started at the end of the contract. It paid Bruce $1.3 million a year from 1990 to 2021. Bruce lasted only 2.5 seasons with Atlanta before being forced to retire.

Atlanta paid Sutter $43 million for 112 games where he saved only 40 games and had a 4.55 ERA.

So over 3/4s of Americans are buying it but it'll be another 4 years before its makes up 1/10th of sales?

Yes. That's how percentages work.

If I have a BBQ for Independence Day, and buy a 4 pack of veggie burgers to cover the 2 people that eat them, but otherwise buy 50 burgers to cover the rest of my guests, I'm part of the 75% that's grilling plant-based meat.

And then I have another BBQ for Labor Day, and buy another 4 veggie burger and 50 regular burgers.

That's 100 burgers, 8 veggie burgers.

Approximately 10% of my purchase.

The article didn't say they were "only" grilling plant-based meats, jut that it was part of the BBQ.

Same.

Hulu Live: $64.99
Internet: $67.49
Netflix: $16.99
Prime: $11.99

I share HBOMax and Peacock with my Brother-in-Law.

Before that, I had the Fios "Triple Play" and once the introductory price ended, It went up to $235 a month. Add on Netflix and Prime, and I was paying almost $265.

So I went from $264.47 a month to $161.46 a month. And don't miss any of the channels that I used to have.

Final piece of unsolicited advice...

There are two kinds of people, those that "talk" about it, and those that "be" about it.

Create a plan. Your parents are leaving in X amount of weeks/months, that gives you whatever time that is to create your plan. Whether it's staying here, or moving somewhere else.

If it's staying here, you need to figure out "I'm making this much, I need this much a month, what can I cut out, spending-wise, to get to that number."

If that means renting a single room from someone for $700 a month, so be it. No Netflix, no Amazon Prime, no daily $5 coffee at Starbucks, whatever. Luxury takes a backseat for a while.

If it's moving to somewhere where the living is a little cheaper, then research landing spots, jobs in the area, and make some phone calls and set things up for when you arrive.

You're young enough for a complete life reset, if necessary. One where you're counting on nobody but yourself.

You got this.

I wish you luck. Keep us all in the loop on how it's going.

I never said it was easy. I just said I was able to do it.

It was more to encourage you that it is possible to get out there and grind it out on your own, not in a "time to change your own diaper" way.

Not sure exactly where on Long Island you are, or where your job is, but find a place out east, where the living it a tad bit cheaper.

I worked 2 jobs (3 in the summer) to keep myself afloat for the first 3 years I was out on my own. I now, almost 20 years later, am more than 2/3rds through my mortgage to fully own my own house and am in a really good spot.

If you want it enough, you'll figure it out.

Funny thing is, I figured WBLS (The R&B station) was pretty basic, compared to what I normally listen to, and it was still too "hardcore" for them.

Just for reference, I just went on their website, and these were the last 10 songs they played:

Snoop Dogg - Drop It Like It's Hot
Mary J. Blige - Love No Limit
50 CENT - 21 QUESTIONS
Bobby Brown - Every Little Step
Ne-Yo - One In A Million
MONICA - FOR YOU I WILL
DENIECE WILLIAMS - SILLY
H.E.R. - Damage
Sean Paul - Gimme the Light
DOUG E FRESH/SLICK RICK - LA DI DA DI

If the job you have now doesn't afford you the opportunity to live on your own without their help, why are you so attached to it that you're not willing to move as well?

OH MY GOD.

I literally just had the same issue this week with the office radio.

On Friday someone said they were tired of listening to the same 30 songs over an over again.

So on Monday (I'm the one that sits the closest to the radio, so I turn it on every morning) I put on the local R&B (NOT RAP, but R&B) station.

It lasted a song and a half. They played "When Doves Cry" by Prince, then "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast.

I was then told "please turn of the jungle music".

Keep in mind, the office is me (I'm Puerto Rican) and then 8 of the whitest New Yorkers you can imagine. To add, I'm 43, and the youngest in the office.

So we went back to the station we usually listen to "Long Island's best mix of the 90's 2000's and Today". Just a shit ton of Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, and Ed Sheeran.

Didn't investing used to require commission fees when you want to buy stocks?

The idea of commission free trading seems more like a modern method. Why invest 50 bucks when you were going to pay like a seven dollar fee to buy or something like that?

Also could people really just go to a trader and just invest 50 bucks? Wasn't there a minimum you had to invest? Also I think investing used to be more of a well off person kinda of a thing. You can't get rich off a 50 buck investment or even make a good chunk of change unless you hit it big with some sort of high flying stock. So I think people didn't value investing as much especially when things were a lot more affordable to the point where a decent job could get you a house and a car pretty easily.

Today, it is easier to invest through apps with small deposits but in the past, there were no apps for that.
SO you literally just answered your own question. Unless you worked in finance, no one was really taught how to proper invest your money for your retirement.

Unless their job set up a pension or 401k for them, many boomers have little to no savings investments, because you were basically taught "go to work, get your paycheck, put it in the bank, and enjoy your .2% interest."

They all basically are relying on their Social Security payments, and Government assistance for their healthcare.

Thankfully, my mother worked in the banking industry for 35 years, and invested hers and my father's income well enough that they were both retired before they were 60.
