Lala settles down and becomes a lot more enjoyable later on. She's definitely great reaction face material though.

Also, out of curiosity: are you watching Star Twinkle with the Over-Time fansubs or the Anon fansubs? If you're not sure, look at how Hikaru's "kirayaba!" catchphrase is being translated. If it's always translated into "twincool" in every episode, then you're watching with the Over-Time subs. If it's translated into a different space-themed pun for every episode, then you're watching the Anon subs. I preferred the Anon subs because it was fun seeing the different puns, and some of them were even suggested by other anons from the Precure threads on /a/ during the series' broadcast.

I can vouch for Smile and Star Twinkle being pretty good. Smile has a really fun cast and some of the best fights in the series, while Star Twinkle is basically Spaceballs with magical girls with its wacky comedy and sci-fi adventure theme.

There was a scene earlier in the series that was basically her mom getting her off and then when Satsuki was captured, her mom like... sexually spanked her? I get the idea that her mom is not really "human" anymore but ick. Made me feel uncomfortable. Also her right hand helper, Nui Harime? Hated her. Hated every second of her. Especially with the revelation that Ryuko is also made of life-fibers it makes her universe-breaking powers make even less sense.

I agree with you that I wasn't a fan of the Ragyo/Satsuki scene and it was better left out, but I had no issues with Nui. I thought she was great as a powerful but wacky sub-villain that wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, and seeing her finally get what she deserved was one of my favorite moments in the whole series. Hell, my normal aversion to gore didn't even kick in when she got "disarmed" because I was too busy laughing so hard.

Just my opinion though. I totally get why someone wouldn't be a fan of her character, and that's fine.

Speaking of Precure, I watched a bit more of Happiness Charge.

It's only episode 4 and Cure Lovely just beat a motherfucker with two smaller motherfuckers. I know Precure are generally good at kicking ass and looking good doing it, but Lovely seems like way more of a berserker compared to others I've seen. Her fighting style is super brutal and reckless, and she's the first Precure I've ever seen that looks like she's straight-up enjoying beating the bad guys' to a pulp.

I'd recommend watching Splash Star, the final battle is basically the five minutes till Namek blows up.

I've heard some good things about Splash Star, mostly that it's a big improvement over Futari Wa before it. But I've also heard some not so good things, mostly about shaky animation quality and it being too similar to Futari Wa to the point of feeling like a cheap knock-off.

I'll probably watch it eventually, but it's at low priority right now.

That would be referring to Heartcatch.

Tsubomi starts the series as "the weakest Precure" but, at the end of the series, the final form of the Heartcatch team is the strongest that the Precure franchise has ever seen even to this day. I know Precure constantly gets compared to Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, but Heartcatch in particular is more like a magical girl version of Gurren Lagann in terms of the constantly-escalating hype and power levels.

Watched the original Precure and its sequel Max Heart, Splash Star, and Heartcatch. Haven't watched anything else since the fourth season of Precure wasn't translated ten years ago and watching every season of a yearly series gets old.

Ah, I see. I started with the franchise by randomly watching Heartcatch, then I started following it as it aired with Hugtto three years ago. In total I've finished 8 different Precure series so far (Futari Wa, Heartcatch, Suite, Smile, Go Princess, Hugtto, Star Twinkle, and Healin' Good) plus I recently started Happiness Charge as well as watching Tropical-Rouge as it airs. So all in all, I've watched about half of the entire franchise so far.

Once I finish Happiness Charge, I think my next one will be Max Heart since I've been putting it off for so long after watching the original series. That or Yes 5, the other Precure series that got a direct sequel season.

You should, it's a great franchise. Precure is basically the lovechild of Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, with Sailor Moon's cuteness and magical girl aesthetics mixed with Dragon Ball Z's hand-to-hand combat and hype powerups. Plus they're all made by Toei Animation.

You're god damn right she is. She gets even more badass when she transforms and fights, but she still has enough coolness and gap moe to be best girl in civilian form too. Unfortunately, she's been sorely lacking in episodes focusing on her so far, but it looks like today's episode will be one for her.

I have Laura in third, with Manatsu second behind Asuka. That being said, Tropical-Rouge is the first Precure series I've ever watched where I really like every single one of the girls. All the others I've watched have had one or two that I wasn't quite as fond of, but Sango and Minori are both fantastic too.

The English dub for SSSS.Dynazenon just hit episode 6 today. That scene of Yume's sister being bullied and her death/suicide possibly being connected to it hit hard. That's the kind of thing that might make me uncomfortable enough to drop a show if it were near the start, but after 12 episodes of Gridman and 6 episodes of Dynazenon, I feel like I have to stick with it. It's also helps that the bad feelings from that scene were immediately overwritten by the crazy hype of HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK IS GRIDKNIGHT DOING HERE!?
