World PvP
PUGs
(possibly other things)

I'm sure someone will say how crummy PUGs are (if I'm using the term right), but it's a case of something being less convenient and less effective, yet ending up with a significantly more genuine and rugged experience.

in modern WoW they streamlined instances to the point that you didn't know who you were playing with, you didn't know where the dungeon was even located, and you didn't even know the context of why you were there or who you were fighting. people would leave and new people would join midfight and you wouldn't even notice or care. and then you level so fast anyway it doesn't even matter if you succeed and you're overlevelled before you even finish.

everything about world PvP and PUGs was a million times more interesting than BGs and whatever the auto-grouping system was called.

if you didn't add the lines, that's probably just the scanning path

I think it's basically saying that you can split the 4s into the two groups, yellow and green. the 4s knock each other out, and if you split them apart based on collisions, you end up with two groups. somehow, if you do that, the yellow group still ends up with a collision but the green group does not, so the yellow group can be cancelled.

I have not used that approach before, but have definitely seen the pattern of "either this set of numbers wins, or this set of numbers wins, but there's no evidence to choose one over the other" like a million times.

I just don't know how they determine that those two 4s both belong in the same group despite colliding. and why wouldn't the colliding 4 just make a new third group by itself?

I think I get it; it inverts across each line. each line says: there is exactly 1 other 4 in this set, so that is a true dichotomy, and the other 4 can be colored opposite of me. if you do this, and yet there is still a collision somewhere between digits of the same color (polarity might be a better term), then that color/polarity is invalid and loses.

note that (I think) the line at the bottom is a separate attempted coloring that came up inconclusive, since no collisions were present after following the links.

I have never seen 120fps, but theoretically where it should be noticeable is when turning quickly in first person, or similarly an object quickly travelling perpendicular to the camera (so left to right on the screen (or right to left)). in a lower frame rate, the number of actual frames you see as it passes will be a lot lower, maybe even just 1 or 2 depending on the speed, and they may have no overlap. in a higher fps, there should be many more frames. (I suppose twice as many in 120fps.)

(as fps approaches infinity, an object could move past you from left to right in front of you very quickly, and there would still be a frame for every position of the object, regardless of its speed (as IRL). with lower fps, the object might not even appear if it moved by fast enough since one second it was off-screen to the left, and the next it was off-screen to the right.)

I haven't actually compared before, but look at the smaller detail stuff. at a macro-scale it should look similar, but at a micro-scale (fine detail) the 1080 should get blurry before you can see much smaller-scale detail, whereas with the 4k you should be able to see a surprising amount of detail.

additionally due to certain video compression protocols (or something), many 1080 videos will actually already be less quality than they could be. I don't know the technical terms for it, but in many 1080 files the "shading" that is used per each "cell" of each frame is merged between clusters of four (each cluster has the same shade as the top left cell of the cluster, rather than each cell having its own shade). this often means that a 4k video will already look better than a 1080, even on a 1080 display, because the 4k will not have that issue.

The first is all nature stuff, making them essentially the Geomancer... earthquakes, tornadoes/whirlwinds, lightning strikes
isn't a geomancer specifically earth, not wind/lightning?

I guess the answer is that they should have a "spiritual connection with nature", though that seems like a strange concept being simultaneously natural and super-natural. it should vary by setting, since it will depend on the rules of the universe they are in.

also it must be made distinct with druids. as you say, shaman will generally have elemental powers, whereas druids will be more "leafy"/plant-based. both are related to animals, both summoning and maybe shapeshifting, though a shaman will do so spiritually and a druid more physically. a shaman would summon a spirit animal; a druid would actually draw a real animal from the forest. a shaman would transform into a spirit animal; a druid would actually shapeshift into a real physical merging of themselves and an animal.

the distinction I guess is that druids are "one with nature" whereas shaman use spiritual means as a conduit to nature (or maybe, a super-natural realm of nature).

hmmm

for games, after looking through many trilogy lists, unless I'm missing something, it has to be Dark Souls 1.

it's not easy to remember everything that's a trilogy though.

runners up include:
Metroid Prime 1 - MP1 definitely best, but not the best of these
Baldur's Gate 1 - classic BG was the best infinity engine game, but doesn't beat DS1
Mass Effect 1 - good but flawed, and ME3 almost made me hate the series
SMB1 - would have won when I was a kid
Fallout 1 - I think I like F3 better though
Age of Wonders 1 - this is probably second place behind DS1. AoW1 is fantastic.
Dungeon Siege 1 - Dungeon Siege 1 is very good, but the sequels definitely are not.
Descent 1 - Descent 1 is one of the best PC action games ever, but hard to put action ahead of RPGs
Deus Ex 1 - extremely good but doesn't beat Dark Souls
Turok 1 - probably the weakest in this list
Exile/Avernum 1 - might have won when I was a teen

Shooting someone shooting at the police is not getting away with murdering someone. Wishing someone had shot at the police so you could have shot him, however, is wishing that you had an opportunity to get away with killing him.

He would have been justified to open fire if the guy had come out shooting, yes, but the bottom line is that he's outright wishing he could have killed this man and gotten away with it. That is not a sentiment that any police officer at any level should let themselves have.
I likely agree with you, but you keep using the phrase "get away with killing him" which seems like a contradiction. you're smuggling in wrongness by saying "get away with", whilst simultaneously agreeing that it's justified. either it's justified, and not wrong, in which case there's nothing to "get away with", or it's not justified, and wrong, and something you could "get away with".

I do probably agree that police should always prefer the non-violent option in all cases.

never used to like beer/alcohol, but recent tried a variety of non-alcoholic beers, and one in particular called Sober Carpenter I find to be fantastic. it's like, oh that's why someone would drink beer... probably related to my age, but the taste is so good, like it's a deep complex interesting taste, which is not usually something you would consider capable of being complex.

the three flavors I've tried are all great in their own way:

White (blue can): tastes kind of wheaty, with a bit of bitter orange peel. was my favorite at first but has the least flavor, and I don't really like the faint orange peel taste.

Irish Red (red can): my favorite, can't even describe it, just deep amazing flavor

IPA (green can): almost as deep a flavor as the red one, but with a strong bitter kick to it. I imagine when I was younger I probably would not have liked the bitterness, but right now I find it pretty great.

Aluminum is the original version and is just as valid, just like the difference between color and colour. Aluminium was the version that people who didn't think Aluminum was in keeping with element naming conventions enough insisted on changing the word to. In other words... the alternate spelling aluminium came from a bunch of stuck-up posers who didn't even care that their alteration meant ignoring the etymology of the word in favor of what they thought "conformed better":

"It was back in 1807 when (Humphry Davy) identified the 13th element on the periodic table which he first named aluminum as a nod to alumina which refers to the oxidation of aluminum"
reading about this, Humphry Davy said he should name it alumium. no one liked that name, since the prefix "alum" is english, with the latin word being alumen and its prefix form being alumin-. and then no one agreed on the suffix, choosing either -um or -ium and some people switching between them at various times.

"Had I been so fortunate as to have obtained more certain evidences on this subject, and to have procured the metallic substances I was in search of, I should have proposed for them the names of silicium, alumium, zirconium, and glucium."

I only bought BL2 because it sounded popular and there was a steam sale, but it sounds like playing bl1 afterwards would be frustrating, and I don't really feel like diving into the whole franchise.
BL1 has very good gunplay and fun RPG mechanics in a surprisingly dull world filled with dull WoW-style quests and almost no story with almost interesting characters that barely speak. near the end of the game it starts to get a lot less dull, but then the game ends. (the DLCs are supposed to be good but I never played them. the game already suffers a lot from over-levelling, DLCs would make it worse unless they're meant to be post-game or something.)

BL2 has good but flawed gunplay and fun RPG mechanics with a bigger way more interesting world with hugely more enemy and environment and gun variety, characters that speak, a much more balanced feel from beginning to end, and an actually interesting story that makes you want to play the game.

ehrm... gonna have to disagree with you there bob

MP2 maybe didn't do much new over MP1 except have some much larger areas. but MP3 did quite a lot more I thought. for one thing, there are other people including other bounty hunters that you fight alongside, it plays a lot differently with the wii-mote, there are "action scenes" where large scale things happen with you still in control (can't remember exactly but it was fairly impressive I thought). I don't know if I can say it's a great game or not, but it specific DID do a lot more bew things than MP2 did. (although now that I think of it, MP2 did that whole shadow-realm thing didn't it... maybe that's what you mean).

and BL2 vs BL1 is almost not a comparison. BL2 is such a massive improvement over BL1 it's not even funny. BL1 has maybe better gun mechanics and feel and balance, but otherwise BL2 is a *phenomenally* better game in so many ways.

I was almost struck by lightning once, except I was indoors. I think it hit right outside the window.

what was weird about it was that we felt it coming. all of a sudden the room just "felt" electrically charged, and that feeling just grew stronger for few seconds while we looked around wondering what was happening and then suddenly there was a blinding white BANG with a popping/shattering sound outside which I think was a lamppost that was what got hit, and the lightbulb exploded. (though I'm not really sure.)

all of our UPSs were beeping, all of our (CRT) monitors were purple and a few network cards and power supplies were dead as well as some ports on the main network switch.
