i agree, but it's the beast of bureaucracy unfortunately. very cold, impersonal, inflexible, statistical - if that. hopefully other transplant options are made available to him outside this particular hospital, whether human, artificial, or heterologous.

between the scarcity of transplant organs relative to applicants and the immense mortality risk on the part of this prospective patient, the system has ostensibly elected to reallocate the available transplant heart(s) to lower risk applicants with better odds of survival.

though i don't harbor a vitriolic attitude towards the unvaccinated like some (many) here, this is definitely a scenario where vaccination is important since transplant recipients are immunocompromised, inherently and/or from immunosuppressant medication.

there's actually a great deal of rhyme and reason to it, mostly behind the scenes, but also in performance.

that's a good point. i'll admit that i often forget about the hordes of people buying/peddling whatever garbage without understanding the technology or foundational philosophies and only expecting "number go up," as i'm most interested and immersed in the engineering/development side of the sector. there's definitely a sizable sleazy hyper-speculative side with many predators and victims.

years back, there appeared to be widespread concern about the harm that artificial scarcity of expertise and institutions was causing to the cost/convenience/availability of healthcare in the united states.

in a way it's really come to a head, with the sector's deficiencies at scale on display in all their glory, but the aforementioned discussion on scarcity has seemingly fallen by the wayside now in favor of scapegoating the unvaccinated. without a doubt they're exacerbating the problem, but they are not the root cause of it.

my point is that the erc-721/nft standard facilitates DRM on public compute infrastructure, though the implementations for accessing/managing out-of-network resources are usually shoddy and immature.

and that drm is an epidemic in modern online gaming/music/film/television distribution, never mind cloud services in general. even where you download to a physical device, you don't really control it in many cases.

it depends on the nft in question. some store it as blobs on the local blockchain, others on ipfs locations, others on other blockchains (e.g., arweave). those storing files on legacy web infrastructure (see: centralized or lacking in redundancy) really don't get the point of the ecosystem though.
