The most expensive house for sale on Zillow in my town is $1.2M, just shy of 4k sqft, 4br, and on 9 acres. It's in the rural fringes of an area that's pretty country to begin with, otherwise $1M would really not go that far, even here.

Nothing in my particular neighborhood significantly exceeds $500k, 3k sqft, 4br, and/or a quarter acre.

i never thought i'd see the day when this was asked on gamefaqs.

LUE (board 402) is a social board where moderation was a little relaxed, and basically "anything goes" as far as discussion. it spawned a metric ****ton of memes in the early 00s, and had some outrageous shenanigans in its time, but got so wild that cjayc basically closed it off from new users (or old users who didn't sign up for continued access) - forever.

their mascot (and by extension gamefaqs's mascot) is LUEshi. it became so popular that it users used to get insta-banned for posting it.

i recall the neighborhoods along the mississippi river having especially awful air quality in baton rouge

you could smell the fumes from nearby refineries and such, and they were very strong

can't imagine what it was like living in such neighborhoods, and the long-term consequences for health are probably tragic

in some way or another, it always has been. it just wasn't so blatant, irrelevant, and intrusive.

i was at the gas station pump this evening, and got bombarded with ads as usual. my usual way of dealing with this is to hop into my car so i don't have to hear them, but i noticed this time that they were way louder than usual, where i could clearly hear them even from inside my car.

i need to buy gas, i don't want to be advertised to, and yet i must buy gas and that necessarily means being advertised to. i am paying to be advertised to. if i do not get advertised to, i cannot drive.

heaven forbid that customers just pay for goods and services. every last bit of monetary value can and must be wrung from them however possible on top of that, directly or via proxies, ideally in the form of recurring revenue to secure stable cashflow to make quarterly earnings reports look good, and it's not even subtle. i'd say that is the direction this hellscape is headed, but we've been there for a while now, and it's only going to get worse.
