Zanzenburger 11/22/21 12:29:38 PM #232 | Looks like a lot of defensive people in this topic fell right into #7 on that list. Lots of deflection and bitterness for a list of reasonable points. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Just started watching 30 Rock |
Zanzenburger 11/21/21 7:06:52 AM #46 | One thing I always found odd about the show is that Pete and Frank are top billed on the show, even getting a spot on the show's intro. Yet they get much fewer A-plots compared to the rest of the main cast, and often don't appear in group shots for promotional material. It's always Liz, Jack, Tracy, Jenna, and Kenneth. Just Google "30 Rock Season Covers" and click Images and you'll see what I mean. Pete and Frank aren't in any of them but are somehow on the shows intro. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Sackville school gives washroom doors the sack, to fight vaping/vandalism |
Zanzenburger 11/19/21 12:24:57 PM #9 | Interesting. All the schools I went to as a kid didn't have doors to the entrance. The entrance to the bathrooms were just small hallways that curve inwards. Think the entrances to airport bathrooms. I actually found it rare to see public bathrooms with doors until reaching college. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Woman's prank exposes how toxic Facebook Mom groups ruin lives |
Zanzenburger 11/19/21 12:17:20 PM #18 | It seems to me everyone is pretty much guilty here. This woman made a post that would make a reasonable parent upset (both the feeding of soda to a baby and the bruise on the forehead), then freaked out when it got the toxic response she expected. But I'm also aware how horrible those mom's groups can be. Even for something mild like a child's bedtime can create a massive uproar if you don't fall into the "conformed standards". --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Just started watching 30 Rock |
Zanzenburger 11/19/21 9:01:16 AM #8 | I was today years old when I learned that Tina Fey has a scar on her face. And I've watched through all of 30 Rock. Twice. In related news, you will be in for a wild ride, TC. 30 Rock is a top-tier show and the closest thing to a live-action cartoon you will ever see. --- Congratulations! Topic | The best and worst job you ever had |
Zanzenburger 11/16/21 2:48:01 PM #16 | Best: Current job where I manage some federal grants but have staff that pretty much do all the work and all I do is sign the paperwork and get paid pretty well Worst: College job where I was an events coordinator and set up rooms for weddings and conferences. The job itself wasn't too bad but the department was full of drama and ultimately I got fired for not wanting to get involved in it. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Are most of the subjects you learn in high school useless? |
Zanzenburger 11/16/21 10:42:05 AM #24 | The point of high school classes are to increase your critical thinking skills. It's really not the content that you need to take away long-term, but developing the type of skills you need to comprehend, analyze, and synthesize the content. The problem is that a lot of the time the way the content is taught is very paint-by-numbers and memorization, so the critical-thinking element is taken out of it. So once you've forgotten the content in a few months, you feel like you gained nothing. Honors and AP classes tend to focus more on the critical thinking aspects, but many regular classes fail to do what they're supposed to. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | At the end of the day, do most employers care if you leave them? |
Zanzenburger 11/16/21 10:31:29 AM #20 | I had to quit a job once because I needed to finish my PhD full time and they offered to keep me in my job at 75% time with full benefits to allow me to devote more time to school. Once I finished I told them that now the 75% part time employment wasn't sufficient to cover my bills so they bumped me back to 100% and also gave me a promotion and a raise. They specifically said they didn't want to lose me and would do what they could in their power to keep me. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |

Topic | Wtf what is this terrible batman movie |
Zanzenburger 11/16/21 8:20:29 AM #29 | That video is so frustrating to watch, and I'm not even talking about the content. The video is in portrait mode for some reason, has some stupid, really loud background music added that wasn't originally in that scene, captions that overtake the screen to obscure what you're actually watching, and that stupid logo and hashtag that appears multiple times in the video in multiple places. That's just unwatchable. As far as the Gotham show is concerned, I agree with most people here. The show started out rough, but once it embraced its wackiness, it became much more entertaining. Mad Hatter was honestly one of the best arcs in the show. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |

Here's hoping I never have to do this.I was once flown to a state on the other side of the country for a 2-day interview, which included dinner with the hiring manager, a stay at a hotel, and a full day of meetings, presentations, and conversations. Topic | Email literally said the interview is between 5-6 hours. wtf... |
Zanzenburger 11/15/21 3:23:10 PM #2 | What happens in those interviews? In the higher ed industry we have 6-hour interviews but that includes a tour of the campus, lunch with the Dean or President, student panels and interviews with students, and sometimes a class lecture or workshop presentation. --- Congratulations! Topic | Young Justice season 4 came out and no topic... |
Zanzenburger 11/15/21 11:46:34 AM #15 | I wasn't a fan of the Martian plotline. I've never been a fan of other-world plots anyways, but the focus on all these random Martians just takes focus away from the main cast. At least the current Artemis arc is incorporating the cast more. Seems better. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Watching Free Guy. Holy Crap this movie is amazing. *spoilers* |
Zanzenburger 11/15/21 11:01:57 AM #17 | I really enjoyed the movie. It didn't try to be anything more than a family-friendly comedy about a guy in a video game world. And I thought it achieved that. Like others have said, the Reynold's character, Guy, worked for the movie. He was literally just a nice guy trying to survive in a world full of jaded and violence-loving people. He was just trying to show that it wasn't "lame" to be nice to people in a video game and I think it conveyed the message nicely. The kissing scene with Guy and the female protag was hilarious. Her IRL reaction to the virtual kiss was priceless, made even more amazing by the follow-up conversation with her friend where he's like "is there even a button for that?" and she's like "oh he found the button". Such as simple exchange but made the scene even funnier. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |

I started this tradition in RBY to always beat one of the gen's games with a team of 4 Sandslash. Once the Alolan variety came out, it gave me more options for movesets and playstyles. Topic | Remember when the mall was the place to be |
Zanzenburger 11/12/21 11:04:11 AM #5 | In some places it still is. My wife and I spend a lot of time there, between the movie theater, the arcade, the escape room, and the pet shop (which we go to regularly for pet supplies). They're also trying to revitalize our mall by having weekend events, including small comicons, murder mystery dinners, and even circus performances. --- Congratulations! Topic | Google maps stores your location HISTORY |
Zanzenburger 11/12/21 8:56:51 AM #8 | People who worry about their digital privacy think they are much more important than the rest of the world think they are. Unless you are committing crimes, no one is going to care where you are going or what you are doing as this data is collected in aggregate and there are so many data points it would be near impossible to narrow it down to identifiable individuals anyways (in a way that could practically be used). Keep in mind I'm talking about aggregate-collected behavior data like buying habits and travel locations, not actual privacy concerns like passwords and identify theft. Of course those need to be protected. This isn't necessarily directed at anyone in this topic, but more to the people I see on social media getting livid over news articles claiming that the free mobile game they downloaded has access to their calendar or contacts. These same people freaking out about their privacy not only agreed to the terms and conditions allowing this, but are the kind of people that no one would have any interest in tracking as an individual anyways. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | Is living with parents after the age of 30 something to be ashamed of or not? |
Zanzenburger 11/12/21 8:50:31 AM #8 | Depends on whether or not you are a contributing member of the household or if you are just there to eat, sleep, and play. In Hispanic culture it's not unusual to have several generations of family living in the same house. But each member contributes, whether it be money, daycare, cooking, fixing/renovating, etc. No one is seen as living under anyone else's roof as everyone has a part to play in maintaining the household. So it really just depends. Are you all sharing the responsibility of keeping the household going or are you just a guest in your own home? --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |

I can't remember what it was... but I remember it was bad. Then I start popping in and out. Then the puppets I was out.Well Hawkgirl left and didn't come back so there's that. If you hated the puppets episode, then this show isn't for you. It went pretty zany after that with the gimmicks and comedy. Many consider that to be its strength compared to the rest of the arrowverse, but I guess it isn't for everyone. Did you at least get to watch the time loop episode with Zari? That is arguably considered the best LoT episode by fans. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |

Topic | Was the Arrowverse ever good? spoilers |
Zanzenburger 11/10/21 9:33:42 AM #5 | Legends of tomorrow is an amazing show. It's had its ups and downs, but I think has more consistently been great than not. Once the show dropped the "dramatic superhero action show" in favor of "sitcom with superpowers", the show got much better. The cast has great chemistry and the gimmick episodes are really fun. They give me a "Community" vibe. What other show finishes a season finale by Also, Superman and Lois had a fantastic first season. I'm hoping the quality continues onto Season 2. --- Congratulations! Topic | Metroid Prime 2 has the best suits and the best lore in the series >_> |
Zanzenburger 11/09/21 8:34:47 AM #15 | Agreed on all counts. Metroid Prime 2 has better suits, better lore, better bosses, and better upgrades than Metroid Prime 1. The only thing Metroid Prime does better imo is the atmospheric "wow" factor of exploring a new world. Also, nothing in the series beats that Thermal Visor escape sequence in the lab in Phendrana Drifts. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |

Topic | How do you avoid the cycle of work, sleep, prepare for next day's work, repeat? |
Zanzenburger 11/08/21 8:28:22 AM #16 | If your current work schedule doesn't give you any free time to do more than what you stated, you may want to work on a plan to get a job with better work/life balance. Work at your current place as long as you need to in order to build savings and experience, but have a plan to move to a job that gives you more leisure time (ideally a job with 8 or less hours a day and weekends off). Once you have that type of job, it's all about having hobbies. Plan out hobbies that result in tangible results. What I mean by that is don't just settle for watching TV or playing video games. Find a hobby that will have you complete a project of some sort. Write a novel, train for a 5k, learn an instrument, practice a new language, volunteer somewhere, etc. I find that those kinds of hobbies add meaning to your life and helps break up the monotony of work/sleep/work/sleep. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | That show on Hulu that starts with P and is 5 letters is weird |
Zanzenburger 11/05/21 11:33:49 PM #4 | It is a fun show. The age thing isn't that uncommon. Many other shows have had adults playing teenagers interacting with actual teenagers. The difference here is that this is middle schoolers instead of high schoolers. I just enjoy all the 90s nostalgia. There aren't many shows that pay nods to 90s culture. Just this, Schooled, and Fresh Off The Boat immediately come to mind. --- Congratulations! Your post was deemed response-worthy. |
Topic | My HOA is saying I can't have a solar roof installed on the house, however... |
Zanzenburger 11/05/21 12:09:54 PM #22 | I hated my HOA for the short while I lived in one. But there are many people that love them. They provide a form of community upkeep that a lot of people value and they think the monthly fee is a perfectly justified for it. They're also the kind of people that tend to conform to community standards anyways so they have no problem meeting the HOA restrictions. Typically the people that don't like HOAs are those who are more likely to do something unconventional with their property, or "muh freedom" type of people that just don't like the concept of adhering to a neighborhood government. --- Congratulations!
