Same. The most annoying thing about these shows is how they try to keep you in suspense by delaying the right answer with all kinds of tricks.

Seriously, at one point, I had to skip like 5 minutes on the clip to get from the girl,s answer to the polygraph result between the ominous music, constant panning over every character, moving to commercial break, replaying previous clips, showing "coming up" scenes, and commentary from the host. The panning of faces and reactions while waiting for the results is the most annoying.

I learned a few years ago that there's an actual job called a Disney Mom. One of my college peers got the job and posted about it on facebook, including the hiring process and the work she did.

Basically it's a job for Disney fanatics who get flown into Disney to provide suggestions for improving the park, "mystery shopping", test driving new features and such for families, etc. But to qualify you have to seriously be a Disney fanatic. Like you have to prove you buy all the merchandise, live and breathe Disney to your friends and family.

Following her posts about the experience showed me a world I didn't know existed.

What is most interesting about this show is that the contestants know beforehand what the questions will be since they take a polygraph test for all the show's questions before filming.

That means that, knowing the answer that they gave to the question, they are still willing to give it live in front of their loved ones.

In the case of Episode 5 linked above, that means that the girl either 1) thought the money was worth ruining whatever relationship she had with her husband, or 2) she wanted to tell her husband these things anyways, and figured she could make some money while doing it. Either way, I can see why she didn't think she was a good person.

BalanceLost hit the nail on the head.

Gilead sought to seek power whatever means necessary. In any war, the quickest way to seek power is to seize the means of production. It was evident during the takeover that fertile women would become the most valued commodity, so they took control of it before everyone realized that. Had that not happened, we likely would have seen what you stated, TC. But Gilead explicitly kept that from happening by seizing control so they could take over America.

They justified all of this by calling it a holy war. Thus, as BalanceLost said, only the women labeled as sinful were reduced to being handmade. But their definition of "sinful" was vague and left to wide interpretation. Basically it was yet another excuse to seek power.

I like to think of it as slavery in the US Civil War. The war wasn't all about slavery, there were multiple issues on the line. But slavery was one of the most visible and surely an easy target to rally supporters for or against.

Same with Gilead. The Handmaids were just one issue relating to Gilead. Women, in general, were treated as property (as seen by the existence of Martha's and what the wives go through). Even men weren't immune from their sadistic rules, as you will see later on. It's all part of their twisted sense of morality.

As to your final point on why a commander just doesn't leave his wife for a fertile handmaid, why would he? With the current arrangement, he gets both. Why settle for one when you get three (a wife for emotional needs, a handmaid for sexual needs, and a martha for household needs). From Gilead's perspective, this is a major win.

My understanding is that the new shorts are just plain uncomfortable to wear as they ride up their buttcrack.

A lot of people in this topic seem to have this impression that the new shorts are "too slutty" for the girls compared to the old shorts. It's not that. The new shorts are just uncomfortable to be wearing for eight-hour shifts.

Just because they signed up to work for a restaurant called "Hooters" doesn't mean they agreed to wear thong-like shorts that ride up their butt.

Keep in mind that I virtually never use this word and roll my eyes at people who do, but part of it is that S3 panders super fucking hard in an extremely shallow way. IMO, they were outright lazy with Violet. She wants to wear a hijab, but they don't bother exploring any religious beliefs because she makes it clear she's not actually Muslim. She's gender neutral, but she only mentions this once and decides to use female pronouns. They spend a lot of time setting up Harper as a character, seemingly just so Violet could kiss her once to show that she's bisexual and then never really reference it again.

Obviously this doesn't ruin the show on its own, but S3 spends a LOT of time developing Violet as a character. Much like Blue Beetle in S2, I think it's fair to say that she was the main character of S3. So the issues with her character does have a big impact on the quality of the show. And this isn't as big a deal, but having Lex fucking Luthor unironically use Trump quotes was just ugh.

Another aspect is that a lot of people probably wanted the focus to be on the original team. I wasn't really surprised that they focused on brand new characters - it's what S2 did more-or-less - but I imagine a lot of people wanted to see what Superboy and Dick were up to after a six-year-hiatus, not a random New Genesis bug and the prince of Latvia-But-Not-Really.

And it's been a while, so I don't really remember the plot, but I vaguely remember thinking that it wasn't as good as the first two seasons. The show struggled a little with the ensemble cast in S2, but they doubled down on that in S2 by introducing even more characters.

Add these three things together and you get a mixed reaction from people.
These are fair points. I do think they spent a weirdly large amount of time on Violet, the bug, and the Latvia guy.

Another point that I found weird was all the shadow groups that were formed when the Justice League broke up. There were so many covert groups working separately-but-together that it got convoluted and I even had struggle keeping up sometimes. Like I feel like they could have accomplished what they wanted in a much simpler way, you know?

I had this exact same conversation with my wife a while back when I made the same observation. When I saw one of those posts I was curious who made them and sure enough, it was some spam/foreign account, likely trying to build a list of gullible people who would share those things.

When my wife asked why would people waste time doing such a thing, I told her that if those people are gullible enough to share those images, they are prime targets for solicitations, MLM, and phishing schemes. They are essentially ratting themselves out as targets for scammers.

For a while I also saw this with fake Tyler Perry pages telling people to comment as he was giving away $10k or something like that. Thousands of comments of people posting thanking him for his generosity.

Successful, powerful women are my main attraction. Their confidence and power really does it for me and makes them so much more attractive than a similar-looking woman who isn't. For me, I like the challenge of keeping up with her. I feel it motivates me. And getting a woman like that into bed, and a relationship afterwards, feels like an accomplishment in itself.

I dated a few women like that but didn't work out, ironically enough, due to my schedule and being too busy for relationships. But my wife is a system engineer at a well-known firm and makes more money than me and I'm okay with that. She has that powerful woman type of vibe that intimidates other men but I love it when she talks work to me. Moreso I just love seeing her happily telling me about things that are important to her, even if I don't always understand the nuances of her engineering speak.

I guess it really just depends how much their work bothers you as conversational topic. I would agree that a person who is really successful at their job has to pretty much live and breathe it, so it would have to be a topic that comes up a lot. I don't mind it, but I can see how other people do.

I manage two federal grants at a university which is about the equivalent of a project manager role. While there are dedicated staff to actually implement the grant, my main job is to basically coordinate between the grant-funded staff and the college-funded staff to make sure all objectives are being met.

The problem is the grant has certain requirements from the federal government, and sometimes they conflict with the processes of the university. Of course the university staff wants to do things their way, while the grant staff wants to do things their way.

My job is to act as a mediator and find compromise that meets both objectives without doing something that could lose us the grant. It's a lot of relationship-building, time management, and conflict resolution principles. I also have to know everyone's jobs in detail so I can really dig down and figure out where to make cuts or compromises.

Zanzenburger posted...
The calories out -> calories in trick, while true, can get much more complicated when taking into account body types, genetics, and lifestyle.

Your daily caloric intake comes from three primary macros: carbs, fats, and proteins.

For example, if you are at a calorie deficit every day, but all those calories come from carbs, then that's going to limit your weight loss going forward. This is especially true for refined carbs (like white bread and overly-processed foods), as they are quick release and can result in bloating and weight ballooning.

Fats are also problematic, and can be found in most foods. You do want some fats in your diet, but too many will also hamper weight loss abilities.

It is a much better idea to fill your daily caloric intake with protein. It's much harder than it sounds. This is because unless you are eating straight meat for all your meals, most foods with high proteins also have either higher carbs or higher fats. It's typically a math game. I've found that chicken salads, tuna sandwiches, and the occasional egg sandwiches tend to provide a good balance of carbs, proteins, and fats.

The other issue is muscle development. The strength and mass of your muscles determines your metabolic rate, or how fast your burn calories. The less developed your muscles are, the slower your metabolism for burning calories. So the less you work out, the less calories your body burns in a day. Cardio helps burn more calories in a given day, but strength training provides you more muscles to increase your calorie burn. While cardio helps you with short-term weight loss, strength training helps you with more longer-term weight loss. Without strength training, you might find that you have to eat less and less over time to continue to keep the same level of weight loss.

I've also personally found that those online calorie burning calculators tend to overestimate your daily caloric expenditures. It's really hard to get a good, accurate measurement from a free online app so I tend to remove about 200-300 calories from them just to be safe.

TL:DR If you want to improve your weight loss changes, calorie counting is a good start, but work on increasing your daily protein intake (>100g is best, but even over 50g will show you results), reduce your daily carb and fat intake, and try to have at least some physical activity consisting of both some light cardio and mild strength training to give your body more of a boost.

Yes, it's harder than it sounds, but you can take it one step at a time and implement each aspect over time.
I forgot to add in one more fact relating to sodium.

Most Americans eat waaaaay too much sodium (can't speak for other countries) because just about everything not made at home from scratch is packed with it. Sodium retains water, so eating too much of it causes you to retain more water weight and become more bloated. This makes it much harder to lose weight.

One thing you can try is measuring your daily sodium intake for a week. Your daily intake should be about 2200mg. Most Americans eat well over 3000mg a day. Just look at the sodium content in just about anything you eat. Most packaged or processed foods have a ton. That could be a good first step if you want to lose some immediate water weight. Drop your sodium to the daily recommended level and see how much healthier it automatically makes you eat.

https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/65092/our-skin-covered-invisible-stripes

Human skin is overlaid with what dermatologists call Blaschkos Lines, a pattern of stripes covering the body from head to toe. The stripes run up and down your arms and legs and hug your torso. They wrap around the back of your head like a speed skaters aerodynamic hood and across your face. Or they would, if you could see them.

In the early 1900s, German dermatologist Alfred Blaschko reported that many of his patients rashes and moles seemed to follow similar formations, almost as though they were tracing invisible lines. But those lines didnt follow nerves or blood vessels. They didnt represent any known body system.

The lines are invisible but can be seen under certain UV lighting or with certain skin conditions. This is what we all actually look like.

There is no magic cure for feelings of misery, unfortunately. It's about finding things that make you happy. It's about pushing yourself through the things you can't control and focus more on the things you can control.

I'm pretty happy with my life. If I had to tell you why, it's all the little day-to-day things that make it so. I have a garden in my backyard that I tend to. I like to grow Mexican sunflowers and am attempting to build a forest of them.

I like to write. I write novels in my free time. Some have been published, some haven't. It gets me excited to come up with new stories.

I enjoy spending time with my wife. Dates, Netflix binges, cooking together, random drives around town, sleeping together (both the sexy kind as well as literally just sleeping next to each other).

I enjoy my video games. I'm looking forward to beating Alien Isolation within the next two weeks before getting Metroid Dread on Day 1 and experiencing that.

I also enjoy all my future plans and projects. In 2022 I plan to open a nonprofit that I'm building towards, I plan to direct a play at the local community college, and I plan to build a swimming pool on my property to host pool parties and such.

Long story short, find those things that give you that adrenaline rush of happiness. It may take some planning, and some of those things may not manifest immediately, but it does give you something to look forward to.

My dog actually did have a grain allergy, it caused reddening of her ears. It used to be much harder to find grain-free food but since has been more readily available.

Though now I just feed her the weight-control Science Diet dogfood, which also seems to do the trick.
