The subscription model is what has killed me in the industry. I refuse to support any product that adopts a subscription model. If they don't offer perpetual licensing, I ain't buying it.

I was fine with it for some online games, but the shift to subscription models for stuff like Office really piss me off, especially where the vast majority of Office hasn't seen a meaningful functional update in two decades (though a 365 subscription opens up some really nifty features in Excel).

As annoying as this is, you aren't looking at more than a 30-second delay in the vast majority of cases. If being delayed by 30 seconds means you don't get to the places where you need to be, you should have left sooner, and expecting other people to help you correct that mistake isn't reasonable. This one's frustrating purely because you'd feel better if you were moving faster, not because of any objective harm.

Yeah I never understood why they went with the FFX-style sphere grid. It made the game pretty inaccessible.

I think they were deliberately trying to create the impression that the game is complex. There's ample demand out there for more complex ARPG's, especially after Diablo 3 eschewed the skill tree system, and PoE screams "look at me I'm complicated!" with its passive tree. In practice, the passive tree's complexity doesn't actually add much to the game (the vast majority of it consists of minor stat boosts on the way to keystones, which means it isn't nearly as complex as it looks and could be dramatically simplified without taking anything meaningful away from the game) and the real build flexibility comes from the skill gem system, but the complexity of gems isn't are readily apparent as the passive tree's is.

TL;DR: It's supposed to make the game inaccessible, for the sake of appealing to people that are tired of how many games compromise themselves for accessibility's sake.

Ah, so the actual issue is that your group of friends likes it and talks about it among themselves, but you don't. I can see how that would be bothersome. It's important to remember, though, that the issue isn't that they're a cult that's trying to convince you to join, it's that they don't think that your musical tastes are a good enough reason to stop having fun with their friends. They don't actually care about getting you into it, they just feel bad that you're so bored.

Full with my girlfriend. It gets slightly squishy sometimes, especially because the cat loves to park himself very much in the way (and also not move no matter how much we disturb him because he's a weird cat), but the couple times we've slept in a King bed, it's just been too much space. A Queen would probably be ideal, but not so much so that we'd bother replacing what we've got (especially where it'd crowd the room a bit).

You could, but I wouldn't. That's already a pretty busy combination of flavours and textures, such that adding more in there could be a bit overwhelming. I'm sure you could make it work, and it might even be pretty good, but I'm inclined not to try. If nothing else, the Oreos wouldn't really add anything that isn't already being done better by other components (Chocolate flavour? Real chocolate. Cream? Mousse. Crunch? Pralines. Sweetness? There is some room to resent trends in popular music, if one doesn't like them. Mostly, it just makes it harder to find interesting new music without putting in work to find the handful of artists that are producing stuff you like. That said, it's pretty much a given that pop music can't please everyone and there will inevitably be some point where a given person's tastes will require them to do some digging, so that's not exactly a unique enough problem to be worth crying over.

That's actually not a bad analogy, if we get away from the people that make vegetarianism a formal commitment and instead look at the people that just prefer to eat vegetarian. Sexual preferences are just that: preferences. They're not binding commitments, just broad descriptions of how your tastes generally lean. Sometimes, somebody who generally eats vegetarian will feel like having a steak. That doesn't mean they don't generally prefer to eat vegetarian, nor is there any need to gatekeep the concept of vegetarianism to exclude anyone that ever makes exceptions.

People need to move away from treating sexual orientations as immutable identities. It's just not a healthy way of looking at the concept. Just like who you like (and let other people do the same) and apply the appropriate labels as needed to describe that (while also being willing to change those labels in the future if it turns out they aren't as applicable as you thought).

I think the right answer to this question totally depends on the personalities of the couple.

Regardless of the couple's personalities, this is always going to be an unhealthy demand that reflects some manner of trust issues. There may be a valid reason for it, but it's nonetheless something every couple in this situation should be trying to work through, rather than accepting it as the status quo.

I agree, but unfortunately, I haven't heard of too many instances of people dying because their GameFAQs posts get ignored. Actually eliminating them would involve far more production budget than I'm willing to sink into this movie, so it's not particularly likely to happen, and half-measures like ignoring their posts just do more harm than good (by which I mean they yield no benefit and are occasionally inconvenient).

It's already out in Japan, and the impressions I've heard so far have been pretty bad. Lots of major bugs and performance issues, and even if you slough through them, I don't think the game is particularly great either. That may have since been remedied with patches, since I haven't been following it closely, but it's sounding like quite the disappointment after how incredible 4 was.

By and large, no. If they are saying that, then they need to be acknowledging that it's because they have trust issues and make a commitment to work on them to some extent or another, but even then it can still be reasonable for you to feel that they aren't doing enough to get over that.

The dead don't care about being dead. It is, but in those cases, there's no benefit to killing the child over seeking other alternatives. The pregnancy's already done and the kid's already been delivered. If the parents don't want it, they have the option of giving it up for adoption without incurring any additional hardship. By contrast, abortion spares the mother the suffering and danger of pregnancy and childbirth, which she would otherwise have to go through to access any alternative options. It's a lot easier to justify killing the kid when there's actual benefit involved, even without getting into questions of how much more conscious/sentient (and therefore deserving of having their experiences and desires considered) a newborn is than a pre-viable fetus.

Realistically, by the time most women are far enough along in their pregnancy for a bartender to be reliably able to tell that they're pregnant, alcohol isn't going to be doing much to their baby. The vast majority of teratogenic activity - alcohol included - happens in the first trimester, sometimes before the mother even knows she's pregnant. FASD is bad and all, but trying to solve it policing women isn't going to help. Instead, there needs to be a focus on reducing unexpected/unwanted pregnancies, including birth control subsidies, improved sex ed, and access to abortions (since no preventative measure is going to be perfect).

If you're really bent on not freezing ingredients or having leftovers, your best bet would probably be to try to stop cooking for one. Find some single friends that also don't like cooking for one and start sharing meals with them. If four of you each cook for four on different nights, you can all avoid the inconvenience of cooking for one and also just spend less time cooking overall.. Even better if 8 of you cook for 8.

They don't have concentrated support. They're a party based on conspiracy theories and nationalism. It's a common thread in societies that 5 to 10% of people tend to be nuts, that was their target audience.

It isn't like the Green party, which still won a few seats due to support being concentrated in certain ridings.

The PPC will never win a seat unless they somehow convince a concentrated riding to vote for them. Which they won't. The closest they got was Bernier's riding, and the guy who beat him had more than twice the votes Bernier did.

They're unlikely to ever win seats, but they are still appealing to a significant number of people, and I don't think that should be completely written off. Whatever implications that appeal has for the government, it does reflect the beliefs and attitudes of a non-trvial number of people, and I think that's worth paying attention to.

Without looking at the detailed breakdowns, I expect they've seen a surge in popularity in Ontario and Alberta largely because the people that voted for their Conservative premiers (who are both more like the PPC than the federal conservatives anyway, so their voter base is PPC-friendly) are mad over how those premiers have handled Covid. Voting PPC gives them a way to spite the Conservatives that "betrayed" them without having to compromise their political leanings by going full commie (in their minds) and voting Liberal. I don't know how long that split will last, but I'd expect those angry people to at least remember this for the next election as well (presuming Covid has resolved by then).

They are an extremely loud but extremely small minority.

I mean, they did manage 5% of the popular vote, which is more than double what the Greens pulled off and pretty close to the Bloc (BQ's a weird comparison to make, for obvious reasons, but I'll make it anyway), and much higher than the 1.6% they pulled off in 2019. They're almost certainly never going to run the country, but they're not that small a minority.

It's not that unusual for Canada to end up going the opposite way that the US does. Harper came in 2-3 years before Obama, then Trudeau took over a year before Trump. Flipping blue after Biden took office wouldn't surprise me.

Musicians that don't try to make money with their music generally don't make very much music. That's not to say that commercially successful musicians can't also be dedicated to the art, nor that pop isn't generally formulaic and sterile because it's trying to tick boxes on an algorithm, but the romanticized "starving artist" thing rarely goes much of anywhere.

A Conservative majority seems very unlikely, but apparently Nova Scotia's provincial election last month gave a similar surprise.

It honestly wasn't that surprising. NS (along with the rest of the Atlantic provinces) has had particularly strict Covid restrictions, which have generally done an excellent job of keeping the pandemic under control, but the side effect of that is that a whole lot of rural ridings have seen literally 0 cases and therefore have a really distorted sense of the risk. They blamed the Liberal government for the restrictions (since, in their eyes, the pandemic wasn't dangerous enough to warrant any sort of action), so when the election rolled around, they tried to get someone else in that they believed would get rid of them.

When Houston got elected, a substantial portion of the comments on articles talking about it amounted to "congratulations! Now lift the restrictions and fire Dr. Strang (the chief Medical Officer of Health for the province)!" He then proceeded to move forward with pretty much the same reopening strategy the Liberals were already enacting, surprising nobody that understands anything about the situation. He's also outright refusing to consider extending the rent control that was put in place for the pandemic and has appointed a commercial landlord as the housing minister, so the housing and homelessness crisis that's already pretty bad here is about to explode. But hey, at least these clueless yokels got to stick it to the Libs.

I think you vastly overestimate what children understand at these ages.

Kids that age understand that there's a difference between the relationship between parents and the relationships between unattached adults. They don't need to understand the finer nuances of those relations to recognize that it's a thing, and that means there is benefit in giving them a chance to recognize that some couples aren't heterosexual. They may not fully understand the implications of that, but exposing them to it at least lays the groundwork for normalizing it as they figure it out.

I would be far more comfortable with a Proportional Representation system. Yes, it would be perpetual minority government, but I don't look at that as terrible, largely for the same reasons you brought up here and it would do away with the instability that plagues the current system. This is especially true given that minority governments seem to be growing more common these days as the proportion of the population that could be considered swing voters shrinks and political alignments solidify.

Same, particularly where prop rep does an even better job of giving smaller parties a voice (I was going to say "less popular," but the amount of voice they get under prop rep is actually exactly as popular as they are, so that's not altogether appropriate). Unfortunately, neither of the parties that can be expected to have the power to enact prop rep are particularly interested in doing so, so I don't have high hopes for it ever coming to fruition.

Atleast in Diablo 2 you had only a few respecs and had to earn the rest.

I do think respecs being readily accessible is generally a good thing. I prefer having actual specs over D3's "pick which skills you want on your bar," but being locked into a spec unless you roll a new character just makes trying out new builds more time-consuming than it needs to be, which really encourages following somebody else's build instead of experimenting for yourself. Gating respecs behind some sort of challenge or other non-trivial time investment is reasonable, but it shouldn't be too hard to get them.

I feel like we need to remove party affiliation here on the ballot in the U.S. Way too many people just vote for someone because they have the same party and no clue if they're, ya know, actually a good person or not.

At one level, I like this, but ultimately I think it would just end one of three ways:

• People do four seconds of research before going to the polls and vote the way they would have if the party had been on the ballot
• People get confused and vote randomly
• People just don't vote

I don't think there's any chance that people would take that as an incentive to actually research the person they're voting for. The people that aren't doing that research now can be expected to continue being that lazy no matter how much you try to encourage them not to be.
