For the record, I had to save Tidus because of that debacle with the Torgal save, so yes, Basch died because of it. I'm not gonna harp about it, but I'm not that happy with how that went down. I feel a save should have been offered up to make up for the mishap, but whatever. No one's bound to play how I would.

SMFFFC winners ranking:

Tidus > Squall > Lightning > Kuja > Kefka > Ramza > Auron > Balthier > Zidane > Cloud > Marche > Cecil > Vivi > Zack > Celes > Edgar > Vanille > Vivi (2) > Reno > Lulu > Fang > Zell > Gilgamesh > Steiner > Rydia

This isn't a ranking solely based upon just my like/dislike of the characters, but also (at least based on my memory) how the result felt based on the contest itself. Like who they beat, how the game went overall, all that sort of thing.

So yeah, I'd probably keep Marche in the top half too. I'm still not totally sure how I feel really, because on one hand I feel bad for the Lightning supporters (which is why I rank her victory so high) but on the other, I saved Marche several times before the situation happened with raytan so there's a good chance there would be no Marche there to have his run if the few of us who actually legitimately were voting for him (I want to say it was Jmast who was the main supporter?) didn't keep him around long enough.

Returning to the discussion from the last topic, I'm on the side of less boots.

I used to think we needed a more fluid roster, but do we really? It seems to only serve people who will either get in a character that's immediately booted or one that's destined to get booted in their second year. I would just say lower the boots because characters like Jecht and Edgar seem to always get soft booted and just return anyway, so it's sort of a waste of time to even have soft boots. I'd probably cut boots down to just the 15 hard boots yearly, maybe 20 to make it a more rounded number. I don't feel like it needs to really be that high though, 15 is probably more than enough. Even when a new game comes out these days it seems difficult for the cast to make any noise at all, and that would be the only reason I would see a need to let 25 characters rotate in and out yearly.

I'm glad nominations exist and all, but I think perhaps there should be some sort of host additions process. Look at 16 for example; only 3 characters. But if the main cast was added in place of some of this year's nominations, would it have been more interesting? I think it's possible because there have been so many characters nominated only to be immediately booted. A lot of these characters are just things most people aren't going to save ever, and so if the people interested enough to get them in also don't save them, then it's a waste.

At least with bigger name characters I feel like there's a chance they could pick up saves at the end of rounds when people's priorities become safe.

Did Luneth actually get nominated in or was that a raytan era addition? If he was nominated, that's pretty weird. I know he's the main character but I figured most of the other cast would be more interesting to this board.

I think there's a big misdirect going on because there is absolutely no way Mae's fire in one room is what actually burned down the coven. I think one of the Jedi did it.

I enjoyed it well enough, but I don't think any scene hit nearly as hard as the Bing Bong scene in the first one.

I guess it's just different for everyone, and I'm not saying that wasn't an emotional scene and I probably did shed a tear at it, but it didn't quite resonate with me in the same fashion as the scenes in this one did. I just felt a more personal connection with the theme this time.

I dunno, I feel like from what I've seen at least, that Chuck is kinda irreplaceable. Like who is a legitimate top 75 player with the credentials to say he's one of the best ever but also has all the charisma to carry a show and be essentially the "color commentator" of the team. I've said before I liked Garnett and Webber, from what I've seen Rasheed and GP are funny but do they need help to be funny, I'm just not sure? Like generally when I'm thinking about it, the people I feel that way about are usually only funny when Barkley is also there.

JJ is also good, but as an analyst. He's not gonna bring that same energy. Then there are like huge assholes like Arenas out there.

Barkley is a really frugal guy, I don't think he cares about money that much because he likely has plenty of it. I feel like the only reason he renewed his contract before was because he didn't want to let down the team at TNT, and now when it seems pretty certain that will be no more, there's no real pressure on him to keep on going.

I'm sure he'll make some appearances here and there as a guest, but I'm inclined to believe him when he says he's retiring from contractual work.
