Hmmm, I don't know about that. Pickling is a food preservation for sure, but jam is the result of preserving fruit in cans, not a preservation itself.
The other words in blue could also be nouns though. Jams is related enough to the other words that it's tough to be sure when you only have a vague idea of what the category is. It's obvious now that we know the answer and can apply it backwards.

Nobody had ever said this.
People frequently complain when they think a woman isn't hot enough. Like how they complained about Aloy and the protagonist of the new Fable game.

Meanwhile, no one has ever said we can't have attractive female characters in video games. Just that it would be nice if we had more who aren't.

It's all right. The biggest problem was the ending, and it's something that is common in Pixar movies, even going back to the original Toy Story.

After giving us an emotional climax and a feeling of closure, instead of ending the movie we have to go through a long action set piece. It feels anticlimactic and takes away from the emotional resonance of what should have been the real ending. But I guess they figure that because it's a kids' movie, they have to give us an action-filled climax, even if the emotional payoff of the story is already over.

It's so hard to have discussions on things like this because so many gamers see all these things in absolute terms.

If you say we should try to have more female characters that aren't sexualized people go "Oh, so female game characters can NEVER be SEXY?"

If you say it's unrealistic to have games filled with female characters who all have tiny waists and giant boobs so maybe let's more variety of body types people go "Oh so if a REAL LIFE WOMAN has big boobs that means SHE'S NOT REALISTIC?"

If you say we should avoid female characters with no agency who serve only as damsels in distress for the male protagonist to save, people say "Oh so NO MAN can ever help ANY WOMAN or it's sexist?"

No one is expecting all games to follow all of the "rules" 100%. No one is saying games will be forced to follow them. There are no negative consequences for not following them. Are they even rules? More like suggestions. Seems to me like they're saying, hey, here are a bunch of guidelines, and maybe when you're making your games try to move a little bit in this direction? Thanks, we appreciate it.

It's like people are intentionally missing the point and reducing everything to the stupidest terms possible just so we can't have real discussions. It's exhausting.

That was the least common but I've heard it before. If I were an editor I would have had them change it into a different word. Still not THAT bad, there have been words I never heard of before but I knew that one. And the other ones today seem perfectly fine to me.

Liaisons isn't super common but I've heard it, most prominently in that movie Dangerous Liaisons with Glenn Close and John Malkovich.

Chauffer, chic, bureau, beret, all those are common words that I would expect anyone to know.

I didn't know, but I always suspected. That's why I never liked those jokes. For women, being pressured / coerced by their superiors is WAY more common than "sleeping around to get ahead" or just wanting to have lots of sex with men at their place of work. And yet, when they hear about a woman having sex with her much older superiors at work without knowing the full story, most people will default to thinking the woman is being promiscuous or using sex for her own advantage.

Don't bother trying to make them accept reality. This account once spent something like twenty posts arguing with several people because they were ONE HUNDRED PERCENT SURE that it was TOTALLY ILLEGAL for 14 year olds to work in the USA, and that those of us pointing out actors who were 14 and under or relating our own personal experience of working at that age were totally wrong. Over the course of multiple days, I believe.

So don't think you can just come along with a bunch of "facts" or "evidence" and change this account's mind. It won't be that simple.

The context is the British Film Institute standards.

The BFI is a charity, funded by government and the lottery. In order to receive certain film making grants from the BFI, you have to meet diversity standards in three out of five categories. Only one of which would result in a minority even appearing on screen.

So yeah, if you're making an indie British film, and looking for funding from this particular charity, you'll have fulfill some (not all) really basic diversity criteria.

That's what Mr Pearl Clutcher, with all of his characteristic honesty and integrity, has tried to spin as 'Movie, TV show and game producers get paid more if they add diversity than if they dont'.

They're always such lovely people, aren't they?
It's pretty typical. They make an absurd claim (that films without minorities systematically get paid less and can't win awards even after the last round of awards) then act like they've "proven" their point because they found one small charitable organization funding indie movies that is trying to encourage diversity. And they're not even trying that hard!

My thoughts about adults having sex with people much younger than them is on a spectrum.

15 and under, you're a child predator. I agree that legally it makes sense to punish you more harshly if you target younger children because it does more harm, but I see no need for society to see you as any less scum if you don't. You're still a child predator, just like a second degree murderer is still a murderer.

16-17: I get why this is a legal gray area. Maybe it doesn't need to be illegal... maybe. But at the very least if you are the adult you should be held more responsible for things like unwanted pregnancy, STDs, and making absolutely sure they are consenting. Also I think it's totally appropriate that this should be heavily frowned upon by society. You should feel like a creep even if it's not illegal.

18-19: Legally treat anyone this age like an adult. In terms of societal attitude, I think it should be mildly frowned upon for older people to date them but not a big deal. But still frowned upon. Especially if you go out of your way to date people this age, that's creepy. And if you start dating someone on their 18th birthday, super creepy. If you're grooming them before they're 18, predatory and evil. Anything that gives the vibe you are trying to come as close to dating children as you can is creepy. Also morally if you are taking advantage of their immaturity or inexperience to manipulate or pressure them somehow, you are a bad person.

20 and over: fine, I have no problem based on age alone. I may personally think it's gross but I won't judge people for it. Of course, just like with 18-19 year olds, if you're taking advantage of them somehow then that is wrong, but at that point it's the same no matter how old they are.
