This is probably OP's best option. It's basically the midpoint between employer-based health insurance and Medicaid. I've been there and it wasn't awful, and based on my income at the time is was about a quarter of the cost of the insurance offered by my job. Of course it's income based, so if OP is paycheck to paycheck in a high cost of living area like NYC the absolute income cap may still be too high for him to benefit.

Why do most of you believe the u.s. percentage is so much higher than other industrialized countries though? Had no idea the gap was that large between 2nd.
Because the US factually IS higher than other industrialized countries? Canada is just below New Zealand, and much of Europe is down in the 10-20% range.

KI_Simpson posted...
I'm pretty sure the gap is a lot smaller for children born now/recently, as opposed to total percentages of people who have penises. As mentioned earlier, there was a propaganda campaign to convince American parents to have it done over a century ago, and it became a cultural norm due to that. More liberal areas are less likely to have it done.
For recent births it's closer to 60% in the US, due in no small part to the pushback it's been getting in the last couple decades. And the growing Hispanic immigrant population, as the percentage of circumcisions in most of Latin America is in the single digits.

Most health benefit circumcision gives is practically null and void when you live in a first world country with easy access to water and hygiene. I will say, the only continent I know of that actually benefits from circumcision is probably the city areas of Africa where hygiene and water access is a luxury. For first world countries like the US, circumcision is primarily a cosmetic thing which should be a choice and not something to take bodily autonomy away from a person. And I say this as someone who is circumcised because my parents were first generations immigrants and had no idea what it meant other than the doctor telling them "it will make the baby cleaner and healthier".
Which is unironically what a lot of cultures that practice FGM believe, only applied at an older age. Most of them truly think it's in the girl's best interest in terms of health.

Ive been trying to formulate my thoughts on this type of argument for a while. Its not the first time I saw it.

the crux is the belief that for something to be an atrocity, it has to be completely open about what it intends to do and completely direct about how it accomplishes it. For something to be an ethnic cleansing, for example, a president has to get on TV and say it is now government policy to cleanse X group.

Obviously (or I guess not since people like Destiny dont get this), the loophole here is to maintain international decorum and give justifications for actions that will happen to also have the result of diminishing the targeted group.

And you dont even have to be super crafty about it. Israels ambassadors have come on TV and literally claimed that Hamas tunnels are connected to every second home in Gaza, to justify wiping out all civilian infrastructure. And Netanyahu and his ministers have coined voluntary emigration on top of that.
I'm going to be somewhat generous in assuming this Destiny guy meant something rational like civilian casualties caused by the prosecution of a war shouldn't automatically be considered genocide. That is, things like the Nazi Blitz against Britain or any of the Allied bombing campaigns against Germany or Japan were not acts of genocide against the British, Germans, or Japanese respectively. He seems to be arguing that the Convention on Genocide requires intent and not only acts which have the results.

I've not watched any of his content, so he could just as well be an idiot.

tankboy posted...
Corn, wheat, oats, and rice, are all grasses.
They are grasses we only eat the seeds of, not the leaves (for the most part). We could eat cooked leaves of most of those but they are essentially worthless in terms of nutrition.

Your standard lawn grass is not the same biologically as domesticated grain crops. Eating grass seeds would be possible but the actual leaves - the "grass" part of grass - contains enough silica minerals to wreck your teeth if you ate any significant amount of it. It would still be of minimal nutritional value but better than nothing, and historically people have eaten grass in extreme famines. If for some reason you find yourself in that situation, probably the best method would be to make a smoothie out of it to avoid chewing microscopic silica bits.

Part of the value of animal husbandry is to turn large quantities of unusable plant matter into usable food products. Grass is shit to eat but goats, cows, rabbits, etc. are much easier to eat.
