Quistis was in a strange place. She couldn't remember how she'd gotten here either. Wherever she was, it felt ancient and advanced at the same time. She'd never seen anything quite like it.

Suddenly, Quistis heard a faint sound in the distance. She couldn't make out what it was, but it was very pleasant. She almost felt as if she were being drawn toward it. She didn't have any better leads at the moment anyway, so she decided to try to find the source.

As Quistis drew closer, she realized that it was a woman singing. She had a lovely voice, and the song itself seemed to speak to her in a way she couldn't quite explain. Eventually, the singer noticed her approaching and stopped her song.

"Ah, there you are," she said. "I've been waiting for you. Please, have a seat."

The mysterious songstress stretched out her hand toward a table with two chairs. As Quistis approached, she noticed there were two cups filled with a steaming liquid. She hoped it was tea. She could really use a good drink right about now, but that wasn't the most surprising thing about this table.

There was a Triple Triad board and a deck of cards, too. (She said she'd been waiting for me. Does that mean...she knows who I am and wants to challenge me to a game?)

"Would you care for a friendly competition, King?"

Well, that answered that question. "I'm never one to back down from a good challenger. I didn't catch your name."

"Ah, my apologies. You may call me Lenne. Allow me to shuffle the deck and distribute your cards. We play by the Random rule here."

Quistis wasn't a huge fan of the Random rule, but any player worth their salt could play the hand they're dealt. She picked up her cards and took a look at them. She'd never seen some of these before. It was rare for her to see a new card.

"Let's begin," Lenne said as she flipped the coin, which gave the first turn to Quistis. Their first match was a draw. (She's good, no doubt about that. I think I've got a feel for her playing style now though.)

Quistis got a brand new set of cards for the second round, and once again, she didn't recognize any of them. This time, Lenne got to go first. As the game progressed toward its end, she played a card that looked very similar to a card in her own hand. It was a blonde-haired boy holding a blue sword. He was probably close to the same age as Quistis.

That's when she noticed that wasn't the only similarity. It possessed the same stats as her card, except they were mirrored. That meant these cards couldn't defeat each other directly, but this region's rules gave Quistis another option.

Thankfully, there was an adjacent card that fit the criteria, and she invoked the Same rule to flip multiple cards over and secure victory. Quistis breathed a sigh of relief, but Lenne's reaction was not what she expected.

"How do you have that card?! That shouldn't have been in the deck!"

Lenne was so worked up that she actually passed out. What was going on here? Quistis stood up quickly to look over the table to check on her, but she was gone.

Before she could begin to process what was going on, Quistis's eyes snapped open. (Oh, it was only a dream. That's a relief.)

Then Quistis realized there was something in her hand. She took a look and her mouth dropped open. It was a card with Lenne's picture on it. She had no idea what this meant. All she could think to say was, "Who the heck is Lenne?"

I have tickets to see Thursday in a 250 occupancy venue (ottobar) later this year and I am so hyped

• Thursday has to be there I think, like it cannot be understated how influential their album Full Collapse is to the "emo" scene. Seriously, there are books written on it even. This should be a no brainer as one of the spots.
• My Chemical Romance, as much as I would prefer putting something from Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, I'll go with the one most people are going with and their most well known. Pretty much still my favorite band ever, and one of the most regarded of the stereotype "emo" phrase.
• Jimmy Eat World are another one that I would rather put something from their previous album Clarity, but The Middle is the one people know most. Another very influential band in the scene, although don't get as much credit for it from the mainstream.
• American Football, probably the most influential band of the Midwest emo scene. Gun to my head I actually would put many bands above them for personal favorites in the scene, but they are still important and known for a reason.
