Short writeups today cause I really need to go back to the things I'm doing.

Forlorn is a excellent 13S-like (no other way to describe it), Everything Goes On is an average EDM song with standout percussion, not a hard choice really. Match 2 was close but I think I like what Mekazoo does a little more, they're on even footing though. Ladies and PacMan is a honorary Katamari song, and with that I mean it bangs loudly and proudly; S-11 is exactly what I'd expect from this game, and it's good.

Abyss combines some arcade-ish feel with its own twist of mystery exploration. Honestly, the melody is pretty decent, but I'm sure it could improve a lot with better instrumentation; even though I can respect what it does given the type of game that's UFO 50. I like the ambulance SFX towards the end, it's quite funny, which I assume it's some type of emergency siren... nice job, but just nice.
I've listened very little of Bang Dream, but that guitar drop told me everything I needed to know. A big power ballad here, and I like just about everything: the melody is nice, the sections from the intro to the end all build up great, and the vocal exert great energy. I have no idea who is Georgette, but I'm sure the vocals feels really passionate about them, and I'm jealous. No complaints about this, it's plain good. It gets my vote.

Vast Ice is a pretty standard PMD song, and I think I prefer Peak more, but it's certainly one that belongs on the good side. I enjoy those small quotes to the Time Gear motif and the instrumentations doesn't miss, they feel like the land of the endgame. I think the melody is quite okay too, nothing I'll remember often, but nothing I despise. I don't think I'll enjoy this one more than I'd enjoy any other PMD, but that's a seal of quality either way. Anyways, how much joy is to listen to Little Busters. This song is whimsy and I enjoy it a ton! There's tons of things to highlight here and they're all full of samples and instrumental choices that brighten my mood and give me a hug and bring me breakfast to bed. Shoutouts to the 1:30 section that is very, very Bo en reminiscent! I'm confused how is this song a melancholic one, but maybe some people express it in different ways. A terrific listen here, I hope it advances, it is lovely!

That's Arzette, #gameoftheyear. Button Masher did a great job with this OST, and Durrudin is a superb first level track. While not my absolute favorite song of the game, it really pumps you for the adventure while using the limitations of the MIDI palette. The flutes are lead are an iconic choice and the guitar helps its fair share too, with the upbeatness of it being the cherry on top. It's not very long, but I like what it does and I will support it wholeheartedly. :)
On the other side we have Zone of the Enders, and it is gorgeous. A technological threat vibe song with remarkably pretty vocals (specially the chorus), it makes me think of an aerial mission against big menacing robots.... I think that percussion on the back sets this over the edge, though; it sounds off, but it also keeps my attention and glues it all together. I think this song is a slam dunk, really, but that seems to be common for ZoE. I like this second listen more than the first, too.
I think I'm gonna stick to Arzette, but it's close. And I can't be mad whoever wins, as well.

Lofty Castle is funky for sure, I like the bouncing piano notes and the beat is quite unique for a platformer. The melody is rather fine, however, nothing particularly calling any attention, it's definitely the cool instrumentation doing the heavy lifting here. Loneliness is quite great. The instrumental on the first half is already pretty great and then the drop just conquers me, I also quite like the vocals as well. I have no idea what the song is about, but I can feel some loneliness coming from it... I think I have no complaints, it's an easy vote.

Oh lordy lord, I've been listening to some classical music lately and Marble Madness just hits the spot that's been rounding through my mind. I just really enjoy the frenzy on this one! It's like a orchestra playing for a climatic duel, except instead of a proper ensemble it's the Atari soundchip, and surprisingly enough the instruments sound really palatable. My favorite parts are the frantic crescendo at the very beginning and the small bell in the middle, but this just kinda rocks. Amazing stuff right here, I'm glad someone considered it. Jade Chimes is, apt to its name, full of bells, and that's an instrument I have a soft spot for. It's a small but graceful build, culminating with the great additions at the end, and I really feel I could listen to it for much longer than 2 minutes. Straight up I can say this is my favorite Genshin song I've listened in this contest along with Duel in the Mist... I think you guys should try the simpler songs instead, cause they tend to land on my favorites. Ack, what a hard choice here, let's see.... I'm sorry, the marbles are just too fun right now. But again, both are amazing!

I instantly recognized the sound of Spencer Nilsen here, because it's very reminiscent of the music he did for Sonic CD USA. But even then, this track could easily be from a JRPG, cause it is full of magic with a veil of mystery. Highlights include the notable marine-esque direction and the use of the synth towards the second half, but I can firmly say I enjoy everything about this, it's just doing nice things wherever you click on the timer. A boisterous opening track, if I do say so myself. Aaaand on the other hand we have MRD... oh brother, it's a track that combines the impending doom of a final boss/final level with the show-off uproar of a rhythm song! Really love the drop at the 1:00 mark, those sounds are so scary yet fill me with energy, and the second drop at 1:36 is heavenly. There's just a good lot of things I enjoy from this. Camellia does it again and Mad Rat Dead does it again, how could it not. That being said, tough choice... I think I'm picking the rat, as it's more for me, but don't imagine it won't be painful. Ecco puts a narrow gap here.

XIII. THE BUD

Once again, Kaze No Ne is here to the delight of me, and let's hope it does another great run like in 16. The vocalist is beautiful, the nature-esque instrumental is fascinating (shoutouts to the bagpipe solo) and the melody is just comforting. Even if I've never played this game, this song just speaks to me in gentle words, and I love it. Artaria is, expectably, ambiental music, albeit with the more robo-touch that Dread revolves on. Although it's probably one of the best ones I've heard in these few years voting in the contest, it simply not enough for how much I like KNN, so it's a easy choice now.

This one is a stacked match. First of all, Caves of Mul being so resemblant of Aquatic Ambience in the intro is quite a treat... but the rest of the song is also a snazzy beat! Really enjoy how the chiptune lead meshes naturally with everything, and the drop at 1:37 is amusing. Honestly, very happy to see it getting a second try after last year. But after such an amazing song, golly gee Scratch P does not hold back, it's a ultra-chaotic song! Huge, huge fan of how the synthetically distorted piano and the frantic xylophones roll around here. And this being mixed in a rock-type composition, this is just such a unique recipe here and I really enjoy it. It's the kinda overbearing and tension-inducing music more survival games should be trying, this really pumps me. Wow, tough choice... I think I'm feeling Scratch P right now, but seriously, we have top of the crop contenders here.

The Bud is a fine and dandy song. The pirate-y time signature + accordion lead is quite enjoyable and I like the vocalist, I like the range it reaches around the 3:30 mark. The song kind of steers through a simple line and doesn't do anything else noteworthy, but I can highlight those two for now. About Believe in Myself... yeah, I forget this song exists and I will probably forget after VGMC is over. I already like very few things about SA1's music, and this isn't one. For some reason, when the vocals started I thought it was Japanese, so I can't say they're very good. The melody could be good, but I think the direction is just too soft to inflict anything on me. I don't know what else to say. I'll give it to The Bud on this one, but it's kind of a weak match.

Woohoo, back again to VGMC! Gonna try to do some writeups as per usual. Good luck to everyone with their picks and may your nomination win!

Resonant of Ray is your usual Falcom track, but I like it. The melody that repeats throughout reminds me of Edge of Dawn... I also quite like the breaks and different things it does, and the ending part stands out the best for me. Azisai is, however, more of my thing. The drops are fantastic and I think it makes good use of its length by keeping me hooked all over. Nothing specific I can say right now, but it's one I'll be keeping a look from now on.

Mitsuyoshi never fails us, huh? While not my favorite song of Daytona, it's quite a moving one. My favorite part of this has to be the vocals. They're just soooo well used here when they're a chorus and therefore lead more spotlight for the melody to do its thing. All in all this song is a great time. Chess really surprised me, because despite being a more natural-mysterious track, it's very thought provoking and not at all what I'd expect for a game like chess more than a puzzle one. I like the regressing chords that starts from 0:27, not sure if I'm describing them well, but they really pick my attention. This is a tough choice, but I think I'll take Daytona.

This one is easily one of the roughest matches in the contest and it's just Day 1!
Solstice is high in my ranking of Tim Follin tracks. The intro is unforgettable, bait and switching the listener into sound explosives, but it also doesn't let down after that, with a lot of moments that resemble his usual C64 style. A fun medieval jig that doesn't let down the intensity at any second. Then we have Volcano, and by god, I'm really happy Sushi Striker gets to show its moves. A really catchy song, with the piano section throwing a sweet interlude before the oooooOOOOOOOOooo instrument elevates it even further. It's a wonderful song I will make sure to not skip when talking about how good this OST is. Also, the composer of this game went to score Dungeon Meshi, and I will always find that curious. Yeah, it's a Volcano vote, but I'm rooting for either track, because they both deserve it. I think I'm just happy that Volcano gets a showcase in day 1. Sushi no. 1!

Easy 3-0 for Touhou, very unfortunate because the first two songs for Fire Emblem are absolutely amazing and I would vote them really easy against most other contenders. I've just been listening to Yomi and Deviants a lot since they came out, so I just like them more than normal. Also I've always find curious World Made from Cuteness is a top 50 in the popularity polls when I just don't see it mentioned anywhere else.

Right on my lucky number, good!

I was expecting the C to be his best pillar, but it seems it backfired... honestly, the quirky catchphrases feels like a trait injected in the writing rather than something unique to him, such as Max or the Maimtron 9000. In my imagination, he could be a hours-long conversation pal, but I fully understand why that would be a deterrent. Perhaps I'm too tolerant of how much fun the game has with its dialogues. However, yeah, I think this is a great analysis, thank you for featuring him!
