It's REALLY good.

There's lots of content just in a single run (my first playthrough took me about 65 hours to complete) and the game has so much replayability because events change depending on when you do them, what you skip, which order you take bosses in, and small decisions you make during the quests themselves. It does have NG+, thankfully, and the unlockable higher difficulties and the ongoing enemy scaling keeps the challenge going into NG+ runs.

Party setup is pretty dynamic and offers a lot of variety, and so long as you play the game "honestly" (as in, don't game the system by abusing abdication and killing off Emperors), the random rotation of Emperors you get throughout a playthrough can do a lot to tweak your options since you generally will have to build your team around your current Emperor, and the Final Emperor comes as excellent payoff for building up your Emperors well.

Don't expect an engrossing story or anything, we are talking about a remake of a game that came out in 1993, but the characters are charming enough while they're around (the generally good voice acting helps), and the Seven Heroes make for a pretty good group of villains if you collect their backstory.

Really can't suggest the game enough, it's sucked me in pretty hard, especially when you consider it's only 50$.

Well... I'm very biased because the original Romancing SaGa 2 was my #2 favorite game of all time, but... Well, the remake took its spot for me~

I love this game. The story isn't the focus, as you should expect from a SaGa game, but I still like its story, and I like that they added more background lore of the Seven Heroes to the game (in the original, you had very little background lore of them, and had to search it in outside materials and stuff).

Length should be expected to be somewhere around 40-60h for a blind playthrough.

This remake is also the best game for getting into the SaGa franchise overall. They added a lot of QoL to make things more intuitive, but without butchering the systems that make the series special or anything like it... And also, a lot of the QoL options they added can be turned off (like quest markers, for example) in case you want an experience closer to the original, where you had less guidance of what you had to do and where you needed to go.

Anyways, the gameplay is fantastic, it can be tough at times, but it also feels very fair. Bosses are often susceptible to status aliments, so they feel useful throughout the whole game, the leveling system is really great, and you can play around with plenty of different techs and spells to better prepare your party for the content you're facing.

I didn't try the English Voice Acting, but I'm loving the Japanese Voice Acting. They got some great VAs for this game, and I can really appreciate the effort they put in it.

Translation is mostly great, I have noticed a handful of issues in the translation of dialogue, but they were all very minor, and I haven't seen a mistranslation in any item description or tech description so far.

And well, the game has a lot of scenarios, with plenty of them having multiple different outcomes depending on how you clear it, and it has NG+ to let you quickly go through the game again to see different scenario outcomes, which is really nice... There are also some difficulties exclusive to NG+, but those are just big stat increases, so don't expect much from them. The main fun of the game comes from the playthroughs in Classic difficulty~

So uhn... Yeah, highly recommended! Give it a shot!

... Ah, and I haven't played DQ3 yet, so I can't compare them. I'll probably get DQ3 eventually, but I'm definitely not getting it right now when I'm still in the hype for RS2! \(^^)/

No but seriously, I'm surprised the Layton games haven't been ported to Switch? I went to check the store but only some random spinoff/sequel with his daughter(?) is on there. I already have the DS games so I don't need those but I never played the 3ds games, never did finish the prequel trilogy.
