If you want to act like the military, you need to remember that the military has rules of engagement (for now) that include a multi-step process that even forces them to not even raise their guns at a truck speeding toward a Kandahar military base, and even then, still can't fire on the vehicle until they give yet another warning.

Weaver wrote that Hegseth wanted Trump to expressly tell him to send troops to Portland.

Between you and I, I think Pete just wants the top cover from the boss if anything goes sideways with the troops there, Weaver said. He wrote that Hegseth would prefer to send in the national guard due to potential backlash over using the army.

The 82nd airborne division is an elite unit that specialises in parachute assaults and forcible entry operations. It was deployed in both world wars and the wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan. A recent commander was the last American soldier to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2021.

Let's set aside yet another egregious breach in security for this administration and focus instead on the fact that these guys wanted to send an elite paratrooper unit into a US city to tear down homeless camps and pick up garbage.

The 10-point memo urged viewpoint diversity in faculty, students and staff, including revising governance structures and "transforming or abolishing institutional units that purposefully punish, belittle, and even spark violence against conservative ideas."

The memo said foreign students should be supportive of "American and Western values" and urged colleges "to screen out students who demonstrate hostility to the United States, its allies, or its values."

It also says universities should share all known information about foreign students, including discipline records, upon request with the Department of Homeland Security and the State Department.

The guidance is likely to raise due process and privacy concerns in light of the Trump administration's recent attempts to deport pro-Palestinian students. The attempts have faced legal challenges.

The memo says "no more than 15% of a university's undergraduate student population shall be participants in the Student Visa Exchange Program, and no more than 5% shall be from any one country." For schools presently over the 15% population, incoming matriculating classes should meet the 15% cap, it adds.

In all four states, the bills direct state officials to withhold payments owed by the states to the federal government if federal agencies have acted in contravention of judicial orders or have taken unlawful actions to withhold funds previously appropriated by Congress. The White House is targeting Democratic states with its first wave of cuts to federal projects following the government shutdown, impacting billions of dollars in funding for energy and infrastructure in New York, California and elsewhere.

Russ Vought, director of the Office of Management and Budget, said Wednesday the Trump administration is cancelling nearly $8 billion in funding for energy programs he characterized as part of the Lefts climate agenda.

The cuts will impact 16 states all of which voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris in last years presidential election. Vought did not identify exactly which programs would be cut in the social media announcement.

Earlier Wednesday, Vought said the White House is withholding $18 billion in funds from New York Citys Second Ave. subway and Gateway tunnel projects, the latter which connects New Jersey and New York.

President Donald Trumps administration said Wednesday it was putting a hold on roughly $18 billion to fund a new rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River between New York City and New Jersey and the citys expanded Second Avenue subway project because of the government shutdown.

The White House budget director, Russ Vought, said on a post on X that the step was taken due to the Republican administrations belief the money was based on unconstitutional diversity, equity and inclusion principles.

In a statement, the U.S. Transportation Department said that it had been reviewing whether any unconstitutional practices were occurring in the two massive infrastructure projects but that the government shutdown had forced it to furlough the staffers conducting the review.

This is another unfortunate casualty of radical Democrats reckless decision to hold the federal government hostage to give illegal immigrants benefits, the statement reads.
