The Dycedarg fight was so good because of the personal stakes for Ramza. The whole zodiac stones plot arc works because it is after all a Final Fantasy game otherwise this game might as well have been called Tactics Ogre 2. |

I loved the supernatural aspect of the game as well because it was fitting of "Final Fantasy". 2nd Golden Era Final Fantasy in these topica gets another 10 from me. |

Metroidvania and Masocore (where ever the fuck that name came from) gets my vote because of Ori and Cuphead. Retro platformer should have been an option for Shovel Knight and games of its kind. Would have gotten my vote. |

Had some really good character development sprinkled throughout the chapters even for the side cast which was a pleasant surprise. Welkin Gunther is also a very good protagonist. The artwork and just something about the way Valkyria Chronicles was presented amplified the way they showed Welkin's kindness and compassion even though he was a soldier thrust into war. The main villain however was not good to say without any spoilers. |

I appreciate the ambition it showed though, especially for its time. I really don't blame people who fail to appreciate Xenogears' story here. It is a product of it's time and especially the gameplay can be a huge turn off for people not used to the turn-based random battles that JRPGs usually were, from that era. Why I reference the gameplay here is because it can really break apart the pace in the game with how tedious it can be at times. The platforming sections (thankfully minimal) are also hilariously bad that I laugh everytime I imagine someone from this generation playing through Babel Tower. I think it would be an achievement in itself for them to get that far considering how all the friends that I've recommended this game to haven't gotten past the Desert area. I admit the translation and dialogue can be rough as well. It was normal back then but certainly isn't acceptable by today's standards. Like I said in my post, a remake would do it a lot of favors. Xenogears isn't a game you would fully understand with a single playthrough either and I realize this is asking a lot for the average gamer. |

| Axl_Rose_85 06/29/21 2:00:30 AM #16 | 10 Xenogears still remains my favorite video game story to this day. It was the first game I played as a kid with a plot of immeasurable depth and mystery. Intrigued by every single dialogue, even with a somewhat poor translation which plagued many JRPGs of that era, I remember it fondly as one of the first times where the story and the characters in the game really gripped me from start to finish. But to fully grasp a story of this scope I had to play through the game more than twice to put together all the pieces of puzzle that I overlooked during my first playthrough. A rollercoaster of emotions still hits me everytime I would replay the game. The nostalgia that takes me back to those years when I was a kid uncovering a great mystery. I was so obsessed with the Wave Existence concept that I used to write theories and short stories about it (which were not very good). Hence why I have a lot of negative things to say about Xenosaga when the time comes. As for disc 2, I personally wish it was finished. The visual novel style did cover everything but I wish it was fully realized like how disc 1 was. If I am being honest I wish it was a 3-4 disc game with the budget of a Final Fantasy game but it is what it is. The golden era of Final Fantasy happened around that time so I cannot complain. I still pray for a full remake of the game to this day and it is one of my wishes in my lifetime to see a fully remade Xenogears game from the ground up with the disc 2 segments having interactive gameplay. Easy 10 from me. I'd give this game an 11 if I could. |

Celeste was simply Madeline climbing up the mountain and I didn't go beyond just reading the text in the game so that was what the plot was from my perception. There's a lot of scores thrown around in the topic with no explanation but I'm at least trying to give something even on days when I don't necessarily have the energy to type. These are games I have beaten so I think I am entitled to my opinion from my experience with the game. Sorry me being not able to articulate why I didn't give a rat's ass about why Madeline wants to climb mountain and that the gameplay is what it's all about got under your skin. |
