When Japan's officials made the decision to surrender, they knew about Hiroshima - they had already reacted to it saying "those are awful bombs, but we can endure several more of them, we doubt the US has many more of them anyway" (and they were correct with that last part). They knew about Russia breaking neutrality. Although Nagasaki had happened by this time, the officials making the surrender decision were not yet aware of it when they made their decision. Pretty obvious what was the deciding factor, then. --- |
