It was a lot harder to get through as it was airing, because the entire character arc aired over a span of two years or so.

An important thing to keep in mind: even the Founders who were against slavery really didnt grasp just how evil it was. They didnt see black people as people, so the stakes seemed much lower to them. It was easy for them to prioritize their collective interest in presenting a united front against the British.
That was also true of basically all of the abolitionists John Brown being the most notable exception. White America was almost united in seeing black people as less. You could argue convincingly thats still a widespread view.

I picked Roosevelt, because Lincoln screwed up hard by having Andrew f***ing Johnson as his vice president. Lincoln may not have been very invested in helping newly-freed black people, but he probably wouldn't have spite-pardoned literally every Confederate. That went a long way in insuring that the South largely remained in the grasp of its incredibly racist Antebellum elite.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt had Harry Truman, who was a pretty competent guy and actually subscribed to most of the same goals.

As to them becoming a competitor, yes in some ways.

A huge, powerful, and rich nation doing such things is always going to be much more worrying than a smaller nation doing similar things. Especially from a global perspective .

It seems a little silly to ask why people are more worried about a country with massive influence and reach than a smaller one.
Yeah, like, North Korea is probably worse, but its evil is mostly contained within the borders of North Korea and affects the people who have the misfortune of being born there.
Superpowers like China and the United States, on the other hand, have the power(hard and soft) and motivation to meaningfully effect foreign nations worldwide. The U.S. , of course, has a very, very long and sordid history of supporting(and, on some occasions, directly instigating) coups against governments it doesn't like(most recently in Bolivia). China has been building up influence abroad via economic investments in the developing world and, of course, has been clamping down ever-tighter on internal dissent(real and imagined).

These are great.

But yeah, a few cities and even some states have taken steps to actually address the protesters concerns. They will need to be watched carefully to insure they don't just backslide, which is probably what they want to do, but the very fact that the image of the "cop as hero" has been shattered is huge. We're going to see a lot of different approaches to reform in the coming months and years and some will be partially successful and others won't be, but even just not pretending everything is perfectly fine the way it is is a huge goddamned process in America.

Yeah, there was some pretty terrible prejudice before capitalism, not all of capitalism's failings can be explained by racism, and there will be prejudice after capitalism.
Capitalism is garbage though and basically can't work without exploiting cheap labor and destroying the planet*.
*To be fair, we've only recently come to appreciate that that's a thing that's happening and just how bad it is/could be. It's also true that capitalism creates little incentive for most firms to do anything and a massive pile of perverse incentives for firms invested in oil, gas, and/or coal.

speaking as someone who just finished a shift in retail as a cart pusher, people in general are idiots. I can understand if you have a handicap and can't move properly, but even with small kids, you have the option of buckling them into their safety seats and spending less than 10 seconds pushing your empty shopping cart into a cart corral. What's worse is that even people who bring the carts into the corral don't do it properly. They will push it in there with no semblence of how it needs to be pushed in. Big carts with Big carts, Small carts with Small carts. It's not rocket science.
My store only has one cart size and people can't even get THAT right. Of course, we used to have two different kinds of carriage(roughly the same size) that didn't play nice together(old silver aluminum ones and grey plastic ones) and most people never even realized they were different, so, yeah. They had different bumpers and everything...
Also people ask if we have smaller carts and get really annoyed to learn we only have standard-sized shopping carts. We have two sizes of basket: a standard hand-basket, and a larger wheeled basket(that is also carriable).

Its not always useful to refer everything to the past. And never helpful to talk about geopolitics in terms of simplistic notions of good and evil.
With that said, China is terrible and actively committing genocide: a hot one against the Uighurs and a cold one against Tibetans, to say nothing of the general repression of the rest of the population.

Yeah, I see that a lot, as some one whose job it is to collect the things. But a good many people just leave them in random parking spaces.
The worst people are the ones who leave random trash behind. I'm talking fast food leftovers, used tissues(especially gross and dangerous given current conditions), etc. etc.
Though the most random was literal bags of grass clippings. Just...why?

Of course, with a load-out like Blue Mage/Berserker/Time Mage/Ninja , failure would have been entirely on me!
Neo ExDeath was trivial: being able to casually throw up Hastega+Mighty Guard Blue Magic that is Protect+Shell+Float meant the only thing that actually killed anyone was White Hole(Bartz got turned to stone the first time and Death'd the second). !Time powered Lenna's Rune Axe while everyone else spammed Meteor(and Krile threw the occasional Fuma Shuriken.)
Shinryu is a total chump as long as you have a means of berserking him, so the hardest thing about him was catching a good screenshot of him dying(very proud of myself on that count!)
Omega though...I would have to grind a bunch and buy a giant pile of Thunder Rods just to stand a chance. That thing is vicious!

In any case, not sure if I'm going to do another run yet, but I'm glad this one was so successful. Anyone else here Fiesta-ing?

Ogre Battle 64 has some pacing problems, partially due to how easy it is once you know what youre doing. But its a 40ish hour long game that becomes a bit of a slog towards the last third of it.
I personally hate the beginning of Chapter 2, which features Crenel Canyon II and Mylesia II. Neither is a very interesting map and the first one introduces one of the games weakest(IMO) plot-threads.

As for me, I feel like most Tales games ramble on, constantly introducing new plot threads and even, sometimes, entirely new villains dozens of hours in. I wish they were a bit more focused and concise.

1 million deaths? I don't know about that. We're 7 months into this virus and there's been ~140k or so deaths, at it'd take like 5 more years at the rate we're going to get to a million us deaths.

If you're talking global then you might be right, for sure we'll hit 500k more deaths by Christmas at the rate things are going at. So we're looking at about 1 million worldwide reported deaths from covid.
Deaths would accelerate precipitously if the health care system collapses in one of the hardest-hit cities/states. New York City only narrowly avoided that.
It's hard to tell if or how close we are to that point, but with cases growing at this rate, it's unfortunately back on the table.

If there's a policy, there's a policy. The only issue is if they subjectively enforce it, but otherwise this is like separation of church and state on public display or religious statues. You either allow the satanists to put up a statue of Baphomet or nobody gets a statue.
Funny you should bring up "subjectively", because they have always enforced the dress code "subjectively". For example, I've never heard of anyone being told to turn their shirt inside-out/change their shirt or go home for any other slogan or logo save for BLM-associated ones(gay pride-related stuff is given a pass as well and always has been). Also, for some reason, they tend to go after black women way harder for dress code violations than white women.
Basically, the dress code isn't some clear, concise, "common sense" thing, but a subjective tool to be used to target certain violations and certain individuals as management sees fit.
