I threw VII a pity vote because let's be real the legendary bird trio and Scyther alone clinch this for Gen I. I has a lot of bloat, NGL. Did there really need to be THREE Normal/Flying lines and a solo Normal/ Flying in the same generation ALL modeled after real life birds? That's rhetorical, but the answer is absolutely not, but I of course gets a pass because it was the pioneer. I'll never understand why Gyarados and Charizard got /Flying over /Dragon secondary, but at least that's rectified with their Megas so it is what it is. The more I think about it the less I think my VII vote was completely out of pity... Those Bugs are solid!

Mega Gyarados is Water/Dark, actually. But yeah, I think theyre not Dragon-types because of how defensively strong Dragon was in Gen 1. Sure, Charizard would still have weaknesses to rock and ground, but not to water (which was a key part of the starter trio). And Gyarados would effectively have no weaknesses, since Dragon negates the Grass and Electric weaknesses.
