Were not doing old Atari systems, either.

In that case, let me say that the 2600 port of Double Dragon should win if you were to ever do such a topic:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDQ-iK31JLQ

A functional beat-em-up with an actual end boss is amazing for how limited the system is. Not worth making a topic for & it has the advantage of coming out 12 years after the system released, but it's quite impressive.

Impressive speed and number of enemies for the system. Honorable mention to Virtua Fighter Animation--probably the best cutscenes on the system & the fighters have a fair number of animation frames, so it's also a good pick.

Are roguelites and roguelikes the same thing

Lites tend to be easier and have some form of permanent progress (gaining levels in Mystery Dungeons, unlocking things in Hades, etc); Likes are more brutal and you literally start the entire game over on death (Rogue itself, Nethack, etc).

...At least, that's what I've heard the difference is.

Big

Took me a long time to think of a valid answer. The absolute first thought was "Bot Battle" due to yesterday's Battlebots, but that was just backwards and not really engaging with the prompt. Then "Kaiju Big Battel" which is intentionally spelled wrong and doesn't work. Then I kinda hit "big battle" by default.

Saturn had plenty of great games to work with:

NiGHTS
Burning Rangers
Panzer Dragoon Zwei
Sonic R

Honorable mentions to Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, X-Men VS Street Fighter (RAM cartridge allowed the game to run better than the arcade version, compared to the abysmal PSX version that didn't have even have a regular tag mode), Shining Force III, Guardian Heroes, and Fighters Megamix. Enemy Zero is also... unique enough to be of interest, though likely a bad fit for this series.

Saturn technically is the version with more content considering it had Maria mode but i don't remember if that came out in the US. and eventually the PSP included it anyway so it can remain forgotten.

Saturn Maria & PSP Maria are different characters. PSP Maria's gameplay is more closely inspired by her Rondo of Blood appearance (including changing the collectable sub-weapons into the Holy Beasts and summoning birds for her normal attack); Saturn Maria kicks enemies & has the standard sub-weapons, but can cast spells for the Holy Beasts.

Tekken 3

I've never been able to find what magazine it was, but I swear I remember one having some ULTIMATE GAMER TEST or something like that, with 100 true gamer tasks. The only one I recall is beating Tekken 3's arcade mode with every character. Not just "all true gamers have played Tekken 3", but the game is so completely foundational to gaming that everyone (in the distant past of whenever this crap was published) has obviously finished it with every single character.

...I've wanted to find that magazine to see what the other 99 tests were, but I have no clue what the magazine was. I do recall a follow-up issue had someone write in a suggestion for a 101st point for anyone who went back to complete any of the magazine's challenges, which was approved. This does not help in any way.

-

...Okay, I'm not voting Tekken 3 just because of a bad magazine article, but I never have an excuse to post that.

"If You Really Love Me" is easily my favorite, though I basically said as much. Nothing else immediately comes to mind, but looking at his biggest hits, I think "Part Time Lover" and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" might be the next two favorites? I dunno; I've heard that the greatest hits so many times on the radio that they're all incredibly familiar, but I've never really gone out of my way to listen to them and they're all in this sort of "oh hey, I like that and haven't heard it in quite a while" category.

I just listened to it, it definitely has a much more raw sound than Wonder's subsequent releases, but it has a few songs that stand out (namely Do Yourself A Favor and If You Really Love Me. Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer is pretty good too). I'd consider it a good album, but his next five albums are where Stevie Wonder becomes truly great.

Thank you. That's interesting; kinda disappointed it's so far down the list, but I'll make sure to listen to those other two tracks when I get a chance.

His album Songs in the Key of Life is even higher on both lists, but I wanted to tackle this first both because I personally prefer it and it's earlier (and also the latter is a double album).

This is off-topic, but if we're already discussing other Stevie Wonder albums, are there any thoughts on "Where I'm Coming From"? It has one of my favorite songs of all time (If You Really Love Me) so I've been half interested in checking out its source album, but since it's no one's top choice, I'm guessing it's not great?

Don't worry about meeting a target imo

It's good advice and I normally wouldn't--see my original target of 5 songs per day, failing to meet that on a regular basis, and still taking multiple days off--but... I've kinda got some real world stuff coming up in early April and will be needing to take a short break. Shouldn't be anything too long, I should be back to a more regular schedule no later than the 10th. BUT... I was going to take a break after finishing the first draft anyway, so if I could sync my times off that would be really convenient.

Also, it'd be one less thing to worry about and I like having emergency escape options available; in the unlikely event I need a far more extended break, then I can always just post the first drafts and say that a very abridged ranking happened. I'm not planning on that, I just tend to get overly anxious and paranoid about things, and having that option would alleviate a bit of stress.

Not thinking of anyone specific, the name came to mind by itself. I see a few fictional Princess Gwyneveres, so it's a valid answer, but I've never watched or played any of the top results so I have no idea where that came from. Just seemed like a princess-y name, I suppose.

I finally figured it out. I was thinking of King Arthur's wife Guinevere, I just didn't know how to spell her name or recall where I'd heard the name. The fact that there's a "Princess Gwynevere and the Jewel Riders" & a Princess Gwynevere in Dark Souls made it hard to realize I was just spelling her name wrong. ...Also that would be Queen Guinevere, so probably a wrong answer anyway. Though she might have been a princess when younger, I really don't know.

...Count that as whatever you want with whatever spelling you want, I suppose?

I'm conflicted. On the one hand, 26 songs is an incredible amount of progress. On the other, I spent significantly more time on this yesterday than usual and thought there would have been more progress... with only three days left until the target date and less time available for each of them, it's not looking as hopeful as I might have liked.

....Though I only have to manage 27 songs a day... if I can find a way to maintain the level of progress, then I can just barely pull it off. Not going to be easy though with less time.
