Trained in and taught first aid. If someone is willing to run out into the middle of a highway to ask for help for something, I'm going to stop because there's a chance I can help.

Let's be clear here, the guy wasn't checking with a radar - he was giving somebody else a ticket. He took a break from that to run out into the middle of the highway to flag the guy in FRONT of me down.

Based on that information, my speed was irrelevant to him. But if you must know, I was going 65 and ticketed for going 80.

I was once going exactly the speed limit on the highway. A cop who was behind another car pulled over ahead ran out into the middle of the highway and waved down the truck in front of me to pull over. The truck did pull over, and I followed because it seemed like an emergency.

Then I got ticketed for speeding????

I said "my cruise control was set to the exact speed limit" and I got "tell it to the judge" in response. Literally that. I was so mad at that fucker.

Huyang is great. Tennant is doing well - but if there's one thing Star Wars has done well since the Disney takeover, it's droids.

I think I'm getting closer to identifying what bothers me about some of these casting choices...

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a little too reserved. She's playing a Hera who stopped being a strong-voiced, and it makes her come across as a mismatch because she doesn't quite have the attitude. Maybe that's a necessary change for development but it feels a little wrong.

Squeezed in the second episode. Honestly, thought it was a little worse - probably just because there were some issues with dialogue. I would guess it's either from the direction, or from Filoni writing the show like an animated series, or a combination of both. Some of the lines just felt really stilted - maybe the actors just aren't emoting properly all the time, idk.

Well, I wasn't going to think about it too hard, but:
Darth Maul, while on Rebels, called somebody his apprentice: Ezra Bridger. However, Ezra chose the light. Also, it'd be odd for Ezra to fight Ahsoka - there would have to be shenanigans at play if this were the case. There's perhaps a greater likelihood of it being one of the Inquisitors, such as the ones seen in Obi-Wan. There was one of them who had a lightsaber like that and flew with it like a helicopter.

I know nobody cares anymore, but after a little bit of attention paying, deep south/rural areas might have the pronunciation of "seng" for sing. (which is how I pronounce sang)

Does it have any inversions though? Orion does, and has those little lap crescents.

And a slow first hill ascent. Gets me so anxious.

Conversely, Velocicoaster and Hulk at Islands of Adventure are both launching starts and that absolves like all the fear I would have of those coasters.

Kings Island has two big ass coasters and the only restraints on them are little shits.

Going to disagree with all the people suggesting Magnum, here. Magnum is the definition of "we want to murder our guests".

Maybe they've redone the track since I last went, in 2009? But that was the absolute worst coaster I have ever ridden. And I rode Son of Beast when it had shaky issues!

Madrigal is solid - good composition, great melodies. It doesn't have quite the cleverness of lyrical construction that LMM usually does, but rhythmically it serves up rather well.

The thing is, Fearless Hero literally is the same thing, word for word, like 20 times. And Antonio Banderas also can't sing.

"Ski" is pronounced like in the 4th "sing" variant that you identify as ridiculous, so if people voting the 3rd/4th option in this poll aren't pronouncing "sing" like that then they've answered incorrectly.

Well, if you're from Urban/suburban Midwest like I am, then it might be the way the Midwest accent works.

There are clear variations across Ohio accents, but some linguists believe American Midwestern is the most default American voice, like "radio American" or so.

And what we do is normalize a lot of vowels. As I said earlier, Dels pronounced carry like caerry and that blew my mind because that vowel sound, the ae, kind of doesn't exist for us.

Likewise, this sin vs seen might be negligible between the two of you in actual speech - the vowel sounds just run together without being as distinctly pronounced. So you might be pronouncing it just about the same, but when paying attention, have a very slight difference.

Or I'm completely wrong. I'm no linguist.

Should also clarify - using soft I and long e, I can pronounce "sing" four distinct ways.

I would assume most everybody is pronouncing it in the middle two way, and likewise, is believing the other camp is supposedly pronouncing it in the edge case ways.

Like, say sit but hold out the i sound and slowly widen your mouth to transform it into a long e. If you can trace the distinct changes, you can hear where it turns into the pure i vowel (the long e that I say for sing) but it can go even further into more of a nasally long e - I figure some people might be expecting that nasally version which is where the disconnect might be.

Sounds like sing rather than seeng to me. The fact that it's protracted could lead you to treat it as seeng. As you noted, proper vocal technique lends itself to this.

Nah, look at his mouthshape. The soft i wouldn't have the mouth as wide and would be more fronted.

Whatever the case, this topic has been both fascinating and frustrating. Not as crazy to me though as the time Delseban told me that in some places, Carrie and carry are pronounced differently.

I'm in awe that anyone is voting option 4. The long vowels in those scenarios don't make ANY sense to me. Maybe with a really thick southern accent.

The funny thing is, if you're singing the word sing, using the long e is the correct technique.

I think it's probably a case of you imagining the long e to be drawn out more than it is. When I compare saying sing with the long e to saying it with a soft i, it's a very very slight difference.
