So I intend to just use my budget phone for everyday camera use, and for vacations/special events, bring a DSLR.

I assume DSLRs don't need replacing every couple years, but is good for like a decade? Anyone know where I can start researching into this (before I start Googling and go down the wrong rabbit hole)?

I know nothing about taking pictures. I have been happily using my iPhones to take pictures.

I need a new phone now, and I don't really care to spend $600+ on it. Seems like any Android phone around $2-300 is good for me................ except the camera.

All these budget phones have pretty shitty cameras. So instead of spending $600+ every couple years just to get a phone with a good camera, I'm thinking of just buying an entry level DSLR camera for ~$500 and purchase budget phones every couple years.

Think that's a viable option?

Because a bunch of people will not call to complain, but just accept the price hike. It's their version of dynamic pricing.

I guess me being frugal, I cannot accept "throwing away" upwards of $70/mo (from introductory $50 to current $120 cost) without a fight.

nope, there is BBB and such, they know they have to lower it to a complaining customer because it is an indicator they will go though other means to complain. It could even snowball into people fighting the monopoly, so it is worth trying to appear to care.

BBB is, in itself, a company as well. It's not like that's a government owned (or "consumer owned", like credit unions) entity.

I have a mortgage, student loan, and car loan, so nope; I am not debt free.

My cable box is not even hooked up. I literally only have it because it's cheaper to bundle up than standalone internet service.

I paid $50/mo for one year for the following:
Basic Cable + HBO
25 mb/s internet

This jumped to $70/mo. When I called to complain, they said they can't reduce the price, but will offer a speed boost to 100 mb/s. They also told me standalone internet will be more expensive, so might as well keep the cable + internet. I agreed.

One year after that (today), the price jumped to $120/mo... I called to complain, and cited that new customers are getting $60/mo for the basic cable + HBO with 75 mb/s internet, and if I can get in on that. They said no, that's for new customers only. But what they can do is bring me back to the 2nd year introductory rate of $70/mo, and give me a speed boost to 200 mb/s for one year.

Next year, the price will jump to $150/mo (with today's pricing), so they suggested I call a year later to get it back down (lol they know).

Speed test confirmed that I'm getting 200 mb/s:

TL;DR: Year 1- $50/mo. Year 2- $70/mo with 100 mb/s upgrade. Year 3- $120/mo, but negotiated down to $70/mo with 200 mb/s upgrade. Why do you HAVE to negotiate this crap? And why is internet-only more expensive than bundling up with TV?

Sales person: We can make that $300/mo for sure! But you'll have to pay us that for 10 years.

Actually, I've just googled this and it comes down to individual state law.

Gave the example of a hiker in New Hampshire charged $9K who got into difficulty on a trail walk in bad weather - they decided there were factors that amounted to negligence (advance weather warning, and the guy had a history of knee problems). In some states it just comes out the taxpayer pot.

It's probably going to depend on if the state is contributory or comparative negligence. Even then there may be overriding factors such as rescue being an exception. Short answer; it's probably going to depend on the state.

wow that sucks. I sort of expected it to be all covered under our taxes.

Examples:
You're hiking, get hurt, and seek aid. The local government sends a search and rescue team to rescue you.

There's intense flooding everywhere and a search and rescue helicopter airlifts you out.

You're out on a boat (in international waters) that's been commandeered. The navy comes and frees you.


In all these examples, would you be liable for the cost of the rescue effort....?

I really enjoy their YouTube videos (with the exception of the political ones).

Just finished watching it, and the movie was great! .....but felt really unrealistic.

It seems so unrealistic that these people are so willing to throw away their lives by attempting to kill someone; an FBI agent, no less. The drugged up guy I can sort-of understand, since he's not thinking straight, but the security force? Come on! Why would they risk murdering two deputies, county sheriff, and an FBI agent?

Nope. Same thing happens when your card expires. Banks will send them the new expiration date automatically.

It's basically used for convenience and for you to avoid late fees.
