Yet you are still falling for conservative propaganda that's easy to debunk. Biden is not doing worse with our borders then past presidents, Border Patrol under Biden isn't just letting people in, we do not have open borders.

There are more people coming to the southern border and that isn't Biden's fault, and everyone is being turned away. Democrats gave Republicans everything they wanted in the latest border bill and they killed it because Trump wants to run on immigration.

And I haven't insulted you once.
You can't talk about propaganda and then spread your own misinformation. Most of what you said is incorrect. Here are the actual numbers.

For illegal gotaways who bypassed border patrol. The numbers are directly from the federal government.

2021 - 400k-600k
2022 - 600k
2023 - 860k

For reference, 2019 was 150k and 2020 was 135k

https://www.oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/assets/2023-05/OIG-23-24-May23.pdf

https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2024-01/59697-Demographic-Outlook.pdf

https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/2022-06/2022_0427_plcy_border_security_metrics_report_FY2021_%282020_data%29.pdf

For asylum seekers, the CBP website tells us exactly how many are let in and the majority of them are not being turned away. This is all in addition to the gotaways.

Oct 2023 - 240k border encounters/180k released into the US to await their hearing.
November 2023 - 240k border encounters/185k released into the US to await their hearing.
December 2023 - 300k border encounters/250k released into the US to await their hearing.

Overall, between illegal gotaways, asylum seekers and visa overstays, 3.3 million people came into the US in 2023 alone. 2.9 of that was at the southern border. This is in addition to about 1.5 million legal immigrants.

https://www.cbo.gov/system/files/2024-01/59697-Demographic-Outlook.pdf

As for Biden's actions, no other president has let so many people in before. This can also be double checked on the CBP website.

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats

You can look at the before and after into Biden's start. Trump was releasing a couple of dozen people monthly because these releases are to be used sparingly for extenuating circumstances. That jumped to 1.5k in January 2021, 9k in February, 26k for March, 28k for April, 30k for May, 42k for June and 70k for July. These numbers peaked at 250k by December 2023 and most of the time we had Title 42. Had we not, it would have been way worse.

Biden also got rid of Remain in Mexico. By doing that, especially before increasing the 34k beds for holding, Biden had to release them into the US to wait for their hearing, with almost zero financial support from the federal government, pushing almost the entire burden on localities. Even then, the new bill was only going to increase holding to 50k. That's like a week or two worth of people.

Nobody is stealing anything. They would need to live there 10 years before they could think of taking possession of it. They are claiming to be tenants. In which case, if they can't produce a contract then it is considered a month to month lease (iirc) and they can be evicted within 30 days.
It's 30 days in NYC. It's 10 years in the rest of the state.

Eviction also takes months, not 30 days.

Bullshit. Crime statistics show NYC in 2023 had half a point less crime than 2022 and it's lower than pre pandemic levels. You're the one with fake news when stats don't care about your feelings. All the crime data your ilk show are in relation to pandemic levels of crime which will obviously be higher.
You should try reading better. That poster said it's the safest it's been in decades. That is objectively false.

To respond to the rest of your Pavlovian response, the 7 major crimes are up by 30k more cases in 2022 and 2023, a 32% increase, than in 2015-2021 and at a level not seen since 2006. Felony assault since the 90s. The population has remained pretty stable since 2000.

Things here are starting to improve in some areas as of late, but there's still a lot of work and improvement that needs to be done and there's no need to lie about the actual reality like you and that other poster are trying to.

Yet another ploy to arrest and incarcerate POC. This is racism pure and simple. The vast majority of riders on the NYC subway are non white which is exactly why they are targeting the subway when NYC is literally safer than it has been in decades. Don't fall for the fake news on Fox News ask the people of NYC if they feel safe and you wi get a resounding yes we are safe except when targeted by the police and national guard.
NYC is not safer than it's been in decades. You're the one spreading fake news. And you will not get a resounding yes from people here. It will be highly dependent on the person and the lines and times they use them.

They're being "voluntarily apprehended" because requesting asylum requires them to do so.
Yeah, that's my point. You brought it up to show that border security is doing great because of all the apprehensions. But all record apprehensions shows is that they're letting in a record amount of people. It has nothing to do with security.

darkace77450 posted...
That they're released and given a distant court date is a problem with the system, not our enforcement (or lack thereof) of the law. The bipartisan bill would have, among other things, increased our system's capacity to process asylum claims at a more reasonable clip. Republicans shot it down because they don't want to fix the problem they'd rather campaign on.
No it wouldn't. It adds zero new judges and just speeds up the initial screening and Title 42 type removal.

The NY Times just reported the other day that even if they were to add 1k more judges, the current backlog still wouldn't be complete till 2032. If the system is overwhelmed, you stop, and it's clear several systems involved in this are overwhelmed.

If you have a problem with that then you have a problem with the laws and regulations, not their applications. If only there was some bipartisan bill that would have addressed this. Does anyone know where we could find such a bill? Someone ask Senator Lankford if such a thing is even possible.

aarrgus posted...
Then you should support a border bill that actually addresses the main problem... funding.
The bill is alright in terms of border security, but it does not stop release into the US and in fact will expand alternative to detention, so it doesn't really help us in NYC. It provides us no funding or anything for services provided to the migrants.

We've been waiting almost 2 years for something to change here in NYC and we've been ignored and it's only gotten worst and most of that time, we had Title 42, which helped reduced things, yet was still overwhelming. This bill would likely end up bringing us back to Title 42 levels.

You can't keep releasing people into the country with no support from the feds. This is not the job of states, cities and charities, which are all overwhelmed already. Entire migrant families are starting to end up in the streets.

Why should anybody give a damn about your probably faked numbers?
The first part of the response was to point out that record apprehensions doesn't mean anything when they voluntarily get apprehended. People bring it up with border security and use that to make it sound like they're being caught and returned or something, but it's straight up disinformation. Migrants walk up and are apprehended and then most are released into the US in 24-72 hours for their court date.

The numbers were to show that even if we're talking about border security, they're doing worse than ever before. 2019 and 2020 had only 150k and 300k.

Reminder: They're trying to impeach him for not securing the border despite the Biden administration apprehending a record number of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border in 2021, then breaking that record in 2022.
Record apprehensions are an irrelevant point to bring up when migrants literally turn themselves in and they are then released into the US in record numbers.

And in terms of gotaways, which are people that evaded all border patrol.

2021- 600k
2022 - 600k
2023 - 860k

All breaking any previous records ever.
