A Kishoutenketsu in the countryside (PC)

This is in the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. It's a very short (about 20 minutes) puzzle game made up of mazes and boulder pushing puzzles. It's enjoyable enough and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Just the easy route, but I had never beaten this before. I didn't really give it a chance as a kid because SF64 seemed so obviously better. Which, well, it is, but this game isn't bad at all! It's pretty fun, actually.

This is a good Metroidvania game. The art is gorgeous and the combat/platforming feels great (aside from the sad little double jump). It's fairly short but you probably won't beat it in one sitting, a good length honestly.

Dragon's Dogma (360)

Killed the Dragon, killed the Ur-Dragon, killed the Seneschal. I like this game, but it's really slow with enemies having tons of HP and no real fast travel (but quests that require a lot of running around). I'm conflicted on the world-building too. Everything about pawns and the Arisen and the dragon is really cool, but it's shackled to a bog standard medieval fantasy setting.

Playing this game in 2020, I think the subversive aspects of the story don't blow my mind as much as they would have when the game was released, because so many other games have gone in the same direction since then. It's still a very cool premise/setting though.

Cuphead (Switch)

I feel like this game isn't precise enough for its difficulty? The hitboxes especially seemed off; I felt like I got hit often by attacks I was nowhere near, and then sometimes enemies would just phase right through me. A lot of the bosses weren't too hard themselves, but had constantly respawning flying enemies, which like... yes, it's well established that the Ninja Gaiden birds are difficult, but it's not exactly the most fun kind of challenge. Also, I'm hardly the first one to make this observation, but the run-and-gun levels weren't anywhere near the quality of the boss levels.

That said, it's a gorgeous game with a challenge level that's generally pretty satisfying, so I still recommend it.

I thought this game was paced pretty poorly, especially in the first 3 cases and especially compared to the first game, which I replayed recently. But it makes up a lot of ground in the last two cases and ended up as a nice wrap-up for the AJ-DD-SoJ trilogy, and for Apollo and Athena especially.
