I don't think Sonic ever fully recovered from Sonic 2006. For every Colors or Generations that people thought were pretty good there's an absolute bomb like Forces or Boom to draw more ire. I don't think this affects the secondary characters quite as badly; they don't carry the weight of that franchise's failures like the guy it's named after does.

I would tend to agree with this, especially since this series ire factor also explains why Ryu and Shepard looked awful, whereas Garrus looked fine and Chun-Li was surprisingly impressive.

To be fair, the Bacondorf we saw against Mega Man looked far worse than 2010's LttP Bacondorf.

Also, to BT's point about how awful Sonic being sub-Elite level makes Auron and Vincent look, neither of them were exactly impressive in 2013 either. Auron only pulled 58% on Ocelot in a match where the latter's bad pic likely canceled out his LFF benefit (sorry Zen, I have nothing against that pic, but it probably turned off at least a few voters). Meanwhile, we all know what happened to Vincent, but what people don't remember is that he failed to even reach 60% on KOS-MOS beforehand.

Snake's Smash fans fold to Samus. Snake/Samus happened like a day after a Smash game that could get people hyped for Daisy came out.

Looking for should haves or could haves through Snake/Samus is a disaster.

For the sake of assumption, let's say that there was so much weirdness in Snake/Samus that Snake should have gone even with Samus. Let's also assume that Samus/Tifa was legit, because in a scenario where Snake is even with Samus indirectly, I can't see Tifa having overperformed in that match. In this very favorable scenario for Sonic relative to Luigi, Sonic scores about 52.5% on Luigi.

I'm not sure Knuckles and Tails really boosted much. Tails is an unknown because he beat two characters who could have both fallen off cliffs and then faced Luigi, where he either shit the bed or got SFFed a mystery amount, and Knuckles did pretty much what he should have on Zero (based on very very lol 2010 x-stats).

Both of them kinda just did what they should have, just like Sonic did, which was be a good bit weaker than Snake, and be a good bit weaker than a character equal to Snake.

Sonic absolutely did not do 'what he should have'. Pre-contest and especially after what we had seen from Tails and Knuckles, no one expected him to be so weak he could have lost to the likes of Luigi.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the project where we rank all the CBX characters by contest strength! This time, well be ranking the Fodder Line, comprised of the following characters:

Albert Wesker, Bomberman, Captain Toad, GlaDOS, Isaac (Golden Sun), King Dedede, KOS-MOS, L-Block, Lightning, Lucina, Master Chief, Master Hand, Nathan Drake, Revolver Ocelot, and The Boss (Metal Gear)

Before we get going, heres the Rules, as always:

1. If at all possible, please number your rankings (ex. 1 for the strongest character, etc.) - it makes your ranks much clearer, allowing me to tabulate them much easier.
2. Rankings of indirect strength are preferred, but direct rankings will be allowed, especially in tandem with indirect rankings.
3. Stick to one ranking per tier (or one ranking each of indirect and direct strength if you choose to separate them) - dont try to sway the standings with multiple accounts.
4. Youre always welcome to submit retroactive rankings if you missed one or more days, as well as change your existing rankings if so inclined, up until this project ends.
5. And most importantly, be nice to each other, even people you dont like! Discussion is welcomed and encouraged, but this isnt ultimately meant to be an overly serious project, so I dont want to see any knock-down, drag-out arguments developing in here about how someones not ranking by the stats or whatever else - use your discretion about this.

Mario/Crono 2003 should probably be the consensus greatest match ever. Have we ever done a contest? We should, and it should win.

This quote gave me the idea to host such a contest, and so here we are.

This is the Nominations phase, where you can nominate up to 10 (ten) matches that you would like to see in the running for the title of Greatest Match Ever. Note that I may increase the nomination limit as necessary, depending on interest. This contest will have 64 entrants, which will be determined at the end of the Nominations phase, on January 1st, 2019, at 12:00 AM PST. If there is a tie at that time in terms of total nominations among matches that are right on the cusp of making the bracket (for example, if 62 matches have 5+ nominations, then 8 more have only 4), the entrants from that tier will be determined by one or more vote-in polls as necessary. Nominations will also be used to determine seeding, with ties among matches that have enough nominations to definitively make the bracket broken for seeding purposes by myself.

Nominations must be for matches in official sitewide GameFAQs Contests, comprised of the following list:

Once the Nominations phase has ended and the 64 entrants have been determined, this contest will begin in earnest, using the time-tested NCAA format, but with multiple matches per day in the first three rounds.

I've finally finished listening to this final episode of The Show for this season, and I just have a couple other things to say.

First, a minor correction to the Guru standings: Everyone who picked Link to win the final match has 76 points more than listed on the Guru site.

Finally, I just wanted to say that I'm really glad I was able to get a chance to guest star on The Show and that I didn't disappoint in the process, so thank you Ng and Yo. And to shift the subject away from me, this episode was the best one yet, and an awesome cap on a spectacular season. As a onetime guest and now-weekly listener, I wanted to give my own shoutouts first to all the guests who have contributed so much to making The Show what it's been this season, particularly greatone for our episode, and Leon and Advo for this last highlight. Finally, Yo and Ng, this whole thing just wouldn't be possible without your tireless efforts, let alone as consistently great as it's been the whole season. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you - Ng, Yo, and the guests - for everything.

It's honestly breathtaking how much worse CBX would have been as a 64-character bracket, even keeping in place the same rules for inclusion in/advancement to the Legends and Losers brackets. Frankly, it's far beyond even what you'd expect based on CBX specifically being sculpted as a 128-entrant bracket and naturally not holding up so well with a contraction.

Just for the heck of it, highly notable snubs that would have resulted (especially notable ones in bold): Knuckles, DK, Chun-Li, KOS-MOS, Red, Charizard, Mewtwo, Fox, Ness, Vincent, Aerith, L-Block, Simon, Pac-Man, Sub-Zero, Ridley (the biggest one, if you get what I mean), and Gordon
