There are a few Youtube mini-documentaries on The Guy Game talking about the controversy of the game and other behind the scenes chaos that happened.
With that said...
Interesting fact from one of the Youtube video documentaries I saw a few years back:
When "THE girl" (the one who made this video game illegal and the only video game in history to be the first and only game officially banned from retail stores in the United States) gets on stage during her part of the game (it's ironically during the final set of levels in the game during the end. She's literally one of the "FINAL BOSSES" of the game) and the host asked her age, she jokingly replies with the word "SHIT !!". She laughs and he laughs... but then he puts the microphone back on her so she can seriously answer the question and she then claims she is 21 (and behind the scenes she showed them a fake I.D that showed she was 21 to the point where her bio in the game says she is 21). Um... about that... she was NOT 21. LMAO. She's the reason this game is illegal (she was only 17 at the time).

PRO TIP # 1
If you ask a woman her age and she replies with the word "SHIT !!" and then claims she is 21 after a brief awkward pause, she most likely is NOT 21. LMAO.
PRO TIP # 2
If you buy a video game and one of the final bosses gets asked her age and she says "SHIT !!" and then claims she is 21 after a brief awkward pause, you need to shut off the console, take the disc out, and smash that shit disc with a hammer because she is most likely NOT 21.
It's also a very definite way to defeat the final boss. LOL.

You're so right, she IS the final boss!! I never thought of it that way... Sometimes life is so unexpectedly poetic and lines up PERFECTLY. Sounds like this is one of those games with only a bad ending with no branching paths where you're supposed to get the good ending by playing the sequel. She got us all good with that unexpected plot twist.

This is easily the most dangerous final boss in the history of video games.
People brag about the toughness of final bosses in games like Elden Ring, classic SNK Neo Geo fighting games (SNK Boss Syndrome), Bloodborne, Mike Tyson with his NES difficulty at the end of Mike Tyson's Punch Out, etc, etc, etc, but dude... this final boss from the Guy Game is so dangerous one could end up in mother fucking PRISON because of this final boss!!!
I know people like a challenge, but I feel the difficulty level of this final boss from the Guy Game is too damn extreme. This is super ultra nightmare difficulty where the final boss could end up getting an assist from this guy right here below who comes wandering into the player's kitchen.... asking the player to have a seat:

I just watched a playthrough of this game after seeing this topic.

What a huge waste of time in terms of gameplay and development. It's not that I find the content offensive (although that thing about the minor is dicey), but a number of heads from developer studio, to ESRB, to I guess Sony, and whatever retailers, all though "hey this sounds like it has potential".

I guess the early 2000's was still a bit desperate for this kind of content.

I can kinda agree with you there. The gameplay isn't quite balanced. Like, getting the quiz question right or wrong is basically irrelevant. All that matters is the bonus question and it's unfairly formatted. At that point it's more about memorization than actually knowing the answer to the question. But I guess if you don't care about unlocking the third round, just going in for the main questions is good enough to see who knows the most trivia.

Oh the things we do when we were young and alone. It went beyond mere dedication. I went through each episode 3 times. Once to mark down all the correct responses, a second time to give all correct responses to unlock the episodes, then a third time so I could see what I unlocked.

Wait, you only did it because you were lonely? Oh... I didn't mean to make light of your reasoning. But still, I count it as dedication all the same. Maybe I can find a guide so I don't have to play through that many times to get a perfect file. That would also be nice to have!

To add to this, the footage of the girls starts off completely censored until you hit a certain point level. Then the censors are taken away but the nudity is pixelated. You have to reach max points in an episode to unlock full nudity. There are 20 episodes and you have to do this for each one.

I bought this game the week it came out. I still have a save file on a memory card somewhere with every episode unlocked, although I sold the game a long time ago.

That's some dedication! I don't think I'll end up doing that and will just stash it away in my collection. Though, I'm really curious about the quiz questions. I love trivia games! This is a tough one...

Maybe, but maybe they thought it was easier for the girls to grasp at the time. And either way, it's still video of them taking off their tops for some form of entertainment intended for public or private consumption. It's kind of a semantic argument.

Technically, only one girl was, not multiple. They did their best by checking IDs and having the participants sign a legal waiver, but they couldn't predict a fake ID. I don't think they had those scanners back then and even if they did, some fakes are made with properly encoded data so that's not a fool proof way of checking a fake. She knowingly got a fake ID to drink underage and knowingly signed a form releasing rights to the footage they took of her, even though she claimed later she didn't know what the footage would be used for which is a flimsy defense if you ask me. You can logically infer it'd be used for some kind of media, like a DVD or game or magazine or pay per view or SOMETHING. She made a stupid mistake and learned from it, which is fine. But I don't think the production team did anything inherently wrong during filming. How they handled it afterward is another story, although.

Oh, really? I thought only the DVD had the error fixed. I'm pretty sure the original releases on PC, Xbox, and PS2 all contain the same erroneous content, unless they figured out a way to patch it out back then.

That's a very good point! They did that for that one Grand Theft Auto game for the Hot Coffee scene, right? And that was arguably less problematic than this. Rockstar had to re-release that game with that content entirely removed from the game's files to get the M rating restored, right? I guess that was more of an informal complaint thing rather than a full blown legal battle and even an AO rating doesn't cover the unfortunate error this game has. Unless you're saying a reclassification would effectively ban it from even second hand stores since most of them refuse to stock AO games in the first place. But unless the staff knew about the reclassification (since it wouldn't be printed on the box), it would be totally effective.

Wtf is even the gameplay of this game? Is it just "Girls Gone Wild" on Xbox

It's a quiz party game. In Round 1, you answer the same question the girls are given. If you get it right, you get some money (akin to a score) and if you get it wrong, you lose money (lowering your score). Then, you have to guess if the girl got it right or wrong. If you guess correctly, you get bonus money and fill up a bonus meter. If you don't, you don't get the bonus money. In Round 2, you do the same first part, but you know for a fact that the girl got the question wrong. The twist is you have to guess what WRONG answer the girl gave to get the bonus. There are some other things like weird rules the President (the person with the highest score) sets for each round (like no one but the President can sit or you can't address anyone by name) and anyone who violates the current rule in effect suffers a "Penalty", though the game isn't specific about what that penalty is. Since it's an adult party game, I think you're just supposed to drink or something. That's the basics of the gameplay, at least how I understood it.

Obviously I'm not going to do that. And I didn't make this topic to look "cool" or whatever. I made it because I thought it was interesting to discuss. It's an anomaly in an otherwise normal and well supervised process which deserves some type of discussion. Lots of YouTubers have video discussions on this very topic and they don't get all judgey and freaked out about it. They do a sort of history lesson, retrospective, some personal opinions, then a wrap-up just like any video. They even show footage of the game and footage of them owning a copy, if applicable. It's not like I'm the only one that wants to get my thoughts out there on the subject. Would you call them a creep for talking about it? I hope not.

Affirmative defense is something like self defense which you use to not get convicted of murder or fair use to not get convicted of copyright violation. There's a similar defense for people who accidentally stumble across CP as long as you destroy it.

That's interesting. I've never heard of that before. I wonder how that works in practice. I have this feeling that it's not as cut and dry as all that.

That's the teeniest bit hyperbolic. None of the girls get fully naked, just topless. And I wanted to see if anyone else had heard of this or owned a copy without knowing. It's just to start a conversation about how something like this happened under usually tight regulations and how it's a blip in history that is obviously sensational to cover and discuss.

I see your point, but it was a bit expensive and is worth preserving for the history of gaming. I think if you feel like a scumbag for owning it, it's because your main goal was to see something you're not supposed to, but I don't feel that way because my main reason for owning it is because it's somewhat rare and odd. I have plenty of other games that are various types of legally dubious for other, admittedly less risqu, reasons. Like, the Rock Band games could be considered illegal if the music licenses are no longer valid or some crossover fighting games that have been delisted are no longer legal because the IP licenses were revoked. I own Cooking Mama: Cookstar which was kinda dicey for a while because the developer released it without the proper licensing and they knew it when it was time to release it, but that's not as exciting as what we're talking about now even though it has the potential to do a lot more harm in the long run than this.

It's true that the 17-year-old girl lied on her consent form, but the publisher was supposed to make a new version of the game that did not contain that 17-year-old girl. The publisher made a DVD movie version of The Guy Game (subtitled Game Over), which is not interactive and does not contain the illegal footage

Anybody interested in The Guy Game is supposed to buy the new DVD-movie, not the original PS2 game with the illegal footage. All merchants were supposed to throw out the original PS2 game, because under the law, it's child pornography. It's not a gray area

Oh yeah! And copies of the DVD version are even rarer than the game version. I think you'd be hard pressed to find one even if you spent most of your time searching the listings and calling shops. Besides, then you don't get to actually play the quiz questions! It's like You Don't Know Jack mixed with Girls Gone Wild, really. I like the quiz parts since there's a challenge instead of just "insert DVD, watch the girls".

That's what I kind of thought, but I wasn't sure about how the law viewed it since they didn't put much effort into recalling already existing copies or put out notices to game shops to NOT sell it OR delist online listings for it. I bought it through normal channels so I expect it to be ok to own. It's not like it was a shady back alley deal, but maybe I'm relying too heavily on the federal government to regulate my ability to purchase legal goods.

I went to my local hobby media shop the other day to browse and ended up purchasing The Guy Game on PlayStation 2. I knew it had some kind of controversy, but I didn't look it up fully until I had already bought it and took it home. I thought it would be one of those simple recall games that they stopped producing copies of as soon as the controversy broke out, but I think it's actually illegal to buy, sell, and/or own. But maybe it's one of those "gray areas" where it was only illegal to sell NEW copies and it's ok to buy and trade used. I couldn't find definitive, plain language proof that it's actually classified as an illegal item, just that it was at the center of a lawsuit and it was "banned' which is kind of vague.

To be brief and rule compliant, it was found out after the game was produced that the game features uncensored footage of a minor participating in the game when she shouldn't have. To be fair, she lied on the consent form with the use of a fake ID so it's not like the legal team didn't do all they could with the forms and process they had on location when they were filming all the scenes for the game.

Anyone want to weigh in on this?

got it 2 weeks ago on a Monday for the first time. It felt like the vaccine in steroids. Chills that night and a fever and a headache after the next day. But I was mostly in bed for the following 2 days (Tuesday and Wednesday). I didn't really start coughing (and not often) until the 5th it 6 day strangely. I also lost 90% my sense of smell on that weekend but I have 90-95% of it back. By my 4th day I was able to walk like normal outside, but still had some chills.

Not sure if you need paxlovid unless you are at risk like diabetes and asthma . Are you relatively up to date with your boosters?

Wow, it really kicked your ass, huh? My first day with the fever was like that, too. Chills, massive headache, body aches, lethargy, and general unwellness. I just stayed in bed and watched Disney+ on the Fire TV Stick. Next day I was still feeling sick, but my fever broke so I went back to work (I didn't get tasted until later in the week). I could probably go outside, but I'm still on quarantine so I'm not gonna try it. Also, I'd be glad to lose my sense of taste for a while. The Paxlovid leaves an awful taste in my mouth without end and it's nauseating.

That's what I read, too. I was surprised it was so easy to get. I thought it was in short supply and only for those at high risk of hospitalization and/or death. I only got the first two doses with no boosters so maybe that's why I got it.

I hope so! I take prescription Ibuprofen for the headaches, but my fever was only for one day so at least there's that.

My fever got that high as a reaction to the vaccine, but only got as high as 102 as a reaction to the real thing. Still felt like death, just like you.

I had Delta. It lasted like 8 hours I suppose. The symptoms I mean. Really wasn't bad. Took some Ibuprofen and went to bed early. Felt fine in the morning.

I tend to stay sick myself so even if I have a mild strain, I can definitely see myself getting sicker than usual. I also get weird symptoms sometimes so catch up here having fever, cough, aches, chills... and hallucinations or nightmares or a foot rash or some shit.

Covid has fucked my family over a lot (thankfully no one has died).

I have one aunt and uncle who got long covid before vaccines were available (uncle was half naive, half indifferent, not full on denier but one of the "not a big deal" types -_-)

Mother and stepfather have had it at least once. They were both very sick for a while in the months prior to Covid making headlines in the US and speculate that they may have caught it before it was well known. Most recently, they had to miss a long-planned family cruise because they tested positive. The cruise itself was postponed because the original date for it was in the midst of the pandemic and cruises were cancelled. They were better off anyway because half the family that did go on it came back with Covid -_- (thankfully all vaccinated and boosted).

Nieces and nephew all had it at least once, and in all likelihood stepsisters and their partners probably did too. Afaik, no serious symptoms for any of them.

I don't think I've had it, but when I got my booster last winter, I was sick as fuck for like a whole week, which was very unexpected, so it makes me wonder if I went in actually having Covid but asymptomatic and the booster just compounded it. I dunno. Shot 1 (moderna) didn't do anything to me. Shot 2 left me feeling like shit the day I got it but I felt fine after a nap. Booster was only a half dose apparently and I was bedridden for most of a week, so I don't know what that means but it makes me wonder.

These older types are flippant with this stuff. I don't get it. It's like they think they're bullet proof or something.

I kinda know how that feels. While I myself haven't missed anything up to now because I was sick, I did miss things that got cancelled because of the pandemic as a whole. I got my money refunded, but I don't think the thing I was going to see will ever happen again because the group isn't whole anymore. That really bummed me out. I guess if I had gone, I would have come back sick like what happened to your family on that cruise.

It was probably just your immune system overreacting. The COVID vaccine isn't like other vaccines. It doesn't use a weakened or dead version of the virus. It takes a protein from the virus that your immune system can recognize and fights that. It's kinda like a fire drill, only your immune system really thinks you're "on fire" even though the protein can't actually do you any harm. You might have felt like shit, but you were never in any danger.

The fact that me and my wife have yet to get covid makes me think the illness I got back in Jan 2020 was maybe covid. I had a lingering cough for like 8 months after that...

We all got sick pretty fucking bad back then and haven't been sick since.

I was just at a wedding for my step-sister last Saturday and no one wore masks. I was 100% sure that was the first time I'd get covid but I haven't yet. I'm just BAFFLED.

Both me and my wife got the Swine Flu back when that was going around (we were just dating and in college at the time lol).

Swine Flu must have done our immune systems good or something, I guess.

Maybe you could take an antibody test eventually. While the sickness is gone, your body doesn't forget and you'll have those antibodies forever... I think.

I got super sick last December right before an important wedding and I was scared because I thought that if I had COVID, I wouldn't be able to go and I was in the wedding party which would have been a huge disappointment. Turns out it was a regular URI. I still felt sick for the wedding, but I still went. It was a big wedding, too!

I remember hearing about that, but I don't think I got that. Sorry to hear you guys had a tough time of it! I guess you came out on top?

It finally caught me recently too. Im currently going on week 2 of covid. I definitely feel better, I still have a lingering cough and stuffy nose. I had so many symptoms the first week. Im not up to date on my booster shot so it was worse than it shouldve been. I was taking Mucinex all in one, and that helped a lot. Drink a ton of water and rest.

I don't think I can handle two weeks of this. Even if I'm out of the contagious stage, my work is going to be hard if, say, I have a cough or a sore throat or something. I have to be one the phone all day and I can't be hacking into the receiver or causing myself pain with every word I force out. And don't feel bad, I don't have the booster, either. Just the base two doses.

I feel just terrible... I really thought I'd be able to avoid this thing since I work in an office away from the public and don't do much outside of work. I'm guessing I caught it at the Shins concert I went to this past weekend, but maybe it was a little before that since viruses need time to incubate before taking hold. I really don't know the answer and I sure wish I did. Luckily, I got it diagnosed in time to be on those antivirals they have now so we'll see if those help. I just really want to get better so I can get back to work and I really hope there are no lasting effects or permanent damage from this. I'm at least grateful that my fever broke pretty quickly, but I still feel pretty ill. Did any of you guys get COVID yet? If so, how did you cope and how long did it last? Maybe some personal experiences will help me predict how it will go for me.

That's a complicated question. It would solve all my personal problems, such as debts, repairs needed on my home, and I would be set for life, but I have a bigger gripe with the world so it wouldn't solve any of those problems. I'd probably devote my life to supporting well vetted charities and funding meaningful social programs around the world to see if I could even produce a spark of light amidst the growing darkness.

Nope, never. I had a counterfeit detection pen provided for me or brought one of my own and always checked anything over a $20. Never saw a fake.

It's probably easy to find me most places since I use the same username almost everywhere. I don't really use OkCupid anymore since I'm in a relationship, but I used to use it when I was single, naturally. I'm sure my profile is quite normal and plain so I don't mind people here looking at it.

Yes, they are alts. Or people that were banned. Banned people create a new account, it says Rookie User, and then they follow SableWolfAngel

Do you think they're genuine fans of my posts? Or just creepers who probably got banned for a reason?

I get those too from time to time. If it's someone I don't recognize then I just ignore it. I could give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they're just lurkers that like your posts or something so I'm not going to call out the accounts except for one, which was Tails which makes me even more skeptical of the others

Yeah, I don't really recognize the names. It's not really obvious. I think I'd almost respect them more if they followed me, then sent me a message stating who they are and why they're following me.

Oh, ok. I knew about half of that. I guess now I don't get who these newer users are. I bet they're alts or something.

I keep getting these notifications here that someone is now following me and when I go look at the profile, it's always a Rookie User, Novice User, or Regular User. What is up with that? Who are these people?? The alts be gettin' crazy, ya'll. What's the point of following somewhere on here again? I'm losing touch.

I've done those before! I was a little put off by the one I did a few months ago because a significant amount of their props were damaged or not working exactly right so we ended up running out of time just as we were solving the last puzzle so I was a little disappointed. How about ax throwing? I can pretend to be a viking!

Where?

Yup, another turn around the sun! Where does the time go? And I got lucky it being on a Saturday this year so I got to spend all day doing what I want! So far, it's been lazing around, eating, taking naps, and playing Undertale for no particular reason. Oh, and my boyfriend got the whole weekend off to spend time with me, too. It's so rare for us to have two days off together so it's definitely different than what I'm used to.

So, any suggestions on what other fun things I should do for it? I still have a whole 'nother day off to goof around and have fun! Wish me well, CE!
