WOW this entire last stretch has been the most incredible ride, but that NaissancE pick really is a cut above. I've always loved the 'look' and 'feel' of this game due to a fascination with oversized [[ empty ]] wonderlands, a common theme in my lucid dreams. Loved your entire set, Simoun--excellent, striking games with excellent, striking music

I'm glad to have attracted a few more people to this game. It really does deserve praise and a playthrough and I feel like more people should know about it as one of the original 2nd generation indie games. The dev actually reappeared recently after making his game free back in 2014. And he's making a new game called SenS.

well, you're with azuarc in the boat of absurdly big range, all the way from the lowest of the low to highest of the high. congratulations! (this is legitimately impressive that you managed to send me tracks I had such a diverse response to)

honestly even the ones that didn't hit the mark, i could tell you were /trying/ and you're not even someone who even knew me coming into the topic, so i was pretty impressed at even those. but you clearly read what i was into, looked for what you knew that fit, and shared with me things i'd have never have come into contact with otherwise. I'm grateful for that. and i'll never forget these higher ranked ones, that's for sure.

This topic has been a journey in itself. I don't know why but since nomming stuff for this topic, I've just stopped nomming for anything else. I think the last thing I did was ranking 1 and 3 for someone's Anime OP topic and I thought to myself there's no way I can top getting off to that wave. But this topic has proved me wrong. Very often I do not really understand what you talk about but I can understand the passion you give and I try to listen to the parts you mention and I try to see what you see. It's been a very interesting experience. And now my role in this thread is done and in some ways you've set me free.

I've always made it my point to get people to play relatively unknown indie games and what could be a better than than to let them listen to these game's relatively unknown tracks. The last and only time I kinda made an impact around here was nominating the Deadbolt OST to an album ranking topic and receiving some polarizing opinions. Somewhere in the vein of "man. there are some real contenders in this topic but THIS I cannot stop listening to and I've never heard of this game. Get outta here, the Risk of Rain guy???" At least now they know it exists and to that my job is done. I was going to nom some of that here but I wanted to do something else; there's alot of unknown indies out there and if you wanted 16 noms per user and this thread took 10 years to complete I'll be onboard haha!

NaissancE is one of the oldest games I own. It is one of the first indie games I've ever played. It is quite forgotten now but I thoroughly recommend it. It's basically Mirror's Edge with a very oppressive architecture and it operates in a way no other game can really replicate, the closest being Kairo but that was too puzzly to be surreal for its own good. Its free too---but it wasn't when it first came out. This is a dev who has truly decided to share his work as art and this game is as abstract as they come.

I actually did not know this track was not a true VGM until recently. And why am I not surprised that you know the artist! I certainly didn't and would never have known were it not for this game. And I was going to talk about how this dev made this silly little obscure artsy fartsy game only to disappear...when they suddenly resurfaced about a month ago. To introduce a new game!

I mean look at those screenshots. Braille? Seriously? Doesn't get anymore avant-garde than that. Limasse Five is a treasure and I'll be sure to follow him closely; he recommends you do not buy this game yet unless you want to support him. You don't meet devs like that these days.

Ever since waaaay back, I always think its my time to go and everytime I'm here I'm equally impressed. I know very well what my final nom was and I honestly didn't think it would go far, much less be the final one.

of course I know that by posting this I have jinxed myself lol. which is why I never said anything till now but I'm still impressed

I've always nominated Tor Remix in music topics but always get shafted by a low rank and I was kinda tired of nomming it so I just didn't this time lol. I should've---honestly anything that isn't my terrible 2nd to the last ranker.

nah unfortunately the 'custom rhem 2 ost' was just me putting songs i liked that i thought fit on a audio editor timeline, and manipulating them in ways that made them fit better, and scrolling to and/or looping when i felt music was appropriate to come up, i don't think i saved any part of it really. but it was like majority oneohtrix point never music played at 25%-75% speed or something like that. so just listen to the garden of delete album pitched/slowed down and find the parts that feel like they'd actually fit in a myst clone and you'll get something similar to what i was doing probably

i was pretty astounded at you having such a wide even spread across my topic in general, but i did definitely think the contrast in positions for the dujanah noms was particularly funny of course

I have ideas for what my next ranking topic will be. some broader (not limited to vgm), some narrower (rating how well songs fit with my vision of particular settings: probably "dungeon themes" essentially). BUT these will not happen for quite a while. immediately after this topic is done i'll start running vgmc 2022 here for the next few months; and after that due to some personal stuff i will likely not be able to be online almost at all for most of the rest of 2022. but sometime in 2023? it's possible

Well with your kind of ideas for writeups, I would be glad to be in anything you want to rank. I used to nom stuff here all the time, but ever since I stayed in your topic idk I just want to see it through the end and have forgotten anything else. Previously, I had gained number 1 in some top 100 Anime OP or something. That was ages ago haha.

I'm sure you've already noticed but I find it really funny that both my noms for this game are both on the lowest and reasonably highest spectrum of your rankings. In general, my survival in this thing has been nothing short of an amazing miracle considering I only had your samples to work with at the time I was finding nominations for this topic.

I've never actually finished this game and all I remember was the author being very harsh on his own work for not getting the fanfare it "deserves". But I'm glad last I checked he's still making games. I've long since forgotten what this game's all about but I'm pleased that it has elicited such an overwhelming "positive" response in you ahaha. Oh I can't wait for a new ranking topic; I dunno if you're tired or what. I feel like I can get even closer next time around.
