They could build a system to where there's no input lag, but you'd get hit by stuff that doesn't look like you should have been hit by. And I say that as someone whose first SMT game was 4. The compendium is also really expansive compared to earlier games. The only two that are 100% essential in my opinion are Remote Start and Banish. Remote Start is an ability you get immediately and is very broken. The amount of damage it can do is astronomical, even if it's situational. Always worth taking. Banish is also pretty busted, though it comes much later on. Blood Trail is also an ability you'll likely want. The one weakness of the Reaper is that their weapon has a low damage range. Both Blood Trail and Banish make up for that. Silent Killer is also really good. It solves the big problem of having one class being dedicated to scouting, by allowing them to take out weakened targets.
