Finally started on Persona 5 Royal.

My completionist sense is screaming at me to use a guide but then there's another part of me that wants to go into this with fresh eyes.

What do you guys prefer? Guide or no guide?

Finished up Ara Fell and it was pretty good. Solid 8/10 game.

Started up Rise of the Third Power, which is the second game from the same devs and WOW, they really stepped up their game.

Where Ara Fell felt at home on the SNES, this one feels like it can go toe-to-toe with games like Octopath, or the remastered Live A Live.

Only played like 30 minutes of it so far and I can already tell this game has the potential to be one of the best modern jrpg-style games.

Speaking of SNES rpgs, I've been playing Ara Fell and I gotta say, they really nailed the feel of a snes rpg, while still being modern.

I usually don't go for RPGmaker games, but after hearing that the devs went back and redid some stuff with a new engine just to bring it up to their new standards, shows how much they care for the game.

The writing is good. The combat, while simple, can have some surprising depth. Overall, the game is good. Definitely worth a try if you're a fan of old snes jrpgs.

Not that much of a fan but I have watched a few of their videos every now and then.

Didn't dig too deep so just I found out that Ned had an affair with a coworker, who was also engaged at the time.

Kinda feels bad that the guy who built his online persona as the "family man" ruined the lives of his wife and two kids.

Now that you mention it, I'm having a hard time picturing a female video game character that has being thirsty or boy/girl-crazy as one of their defining traits.

They have all the time to catch up now that the manga has ended.

Pretty weak ending though. Definitely not the ending a nearly decade long serialization deserved.

Link's Awakening side scrolling sections maybe, but that's more like the game allowing you to face the same four directions you normally can

In Minish Cap you can learn the downward thrust from a Tiger Scroll.

In Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, you can do a down stab finishing blow on downed enemies.

Haven't bought the game yet, but I've been made aware of how easy it is to overlevel and how being overleveled makes you stop earning class points.

So now, I'm holding out hope that Xeno 3 will add a level down option for the regular game in a patch or something.

Or at the very least an option to disable exp while still gaining cp.

I'm the type to do every sidequest when it becomes available so I definitely ran into overleveling problems for all 3 of the past xenoblade games.

Expert mode was a godsend for 1-remake and the difficulty sliders were a good addition for 2.

If they added something like that for 3, I might go ahead and get it then.

That's basically impossible if you're the type to finish all the sidequests in an area and find all the locations, while also enjoying the combat.

The ability to lower your levels in XC1DE was a great solution to this.

They didn't bring it back for XC3?

I find amusement parks depressing these days. Seeing all these unfortunate bastards bankrupting themselves for a few hours of fleeting gratification makes me feel bad for them, and I dont like feeling bad for other people.

For what its worth, we basically only spent money on the tickets.

We ate lunch outside before going in, brought our own water bottles, and made a beeline to as many rides as possible, to get the most out of it, since we didn't go for the Fast Track/Pass thing.

Having it suddenly rain down HARD and the ride gets shut down when you're like 10 minutes away from getting on.

So that happened to me earlier at Hershey Park. It sucked.

Luckily it was near the end of the day and I had gotten on some rides earlier.

All in all, it was a fun trip.

Square should have different teams working on different series, so I think this one might still have a chance. Could be from the same team that made Bravely Default for example.

In other news, started on 13 Sentinels recently.

Went into this game completely blind. Had no idea it was gonna be a visual novel/real-time strategy combat mix game.

Apparently I just got past the prologue? After 3 hours? And that was mostly reading since the actual combat gameplay only lasted like 8 minutes per fight. That's a long-ass time for a setup.

Although considering that there's all sorts of crazy timeline shenanigans, and multiple perspectives from multiple protagonists, I guess it needed to ease the player into it.

I just got past the prologue and I'm already feeling overwhelmed. Doesn't help that the only way the game keeps track of all the events is just a list. I'd need one of those crazy string conspiracy spiderweb things in order to keep track.

Bought 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim today since I read some of the people here claim it as their goty. wanna see if it lives up to the hype.

Also sorta related I also bought Valkyrie Chronicles 1 and 4, and AI: Somnium Files a while ago.

These should keep me busy (along with replaying Xenoblade 1 and 2) until all of the DLC for Xenoblade 3 is out, since I told myself I won't get it until it's a complete package.

You basically hop between two split parallel universes created from a major decision you make in the story. Though I guess they would be more "timelines" than actual parallel universes.

The 3ds remake sorta does give small jumps into actual parallel universes, but those are mostly sidequests, and not integrated into the main flow of the game.

According to the VA for Pyra/Mythra, they apparently just gave them the lines to read without showing them the context of the scene or how it's supposed to play out, so all they had to go off of were the director's guidance.

I'll double vouch for this. The game is one of the truly greatest RPGs. If you're getting the Perfect Chronology version go for "Perfect Mode" NOT "Append Mode."

The game was originally a DS title, but the 3DS version added new scenes, sidequests, and a new True Ending. To get tot he True Ending you have to do the new sidequests. In "Append Mode" you do the original story first, and then do the sidequests/side chapters at the end, all in one go, which is a slog, and most of the rewards end up useless.

In "Perfect Mode" you have the option of doing the side stuff alongside the main story, which feels more organic, and you can actually use the stuff you get as you need them.

In any case other good RPGs would be

Stella Glow (one of my favorite hidden gems on the 3ds)
The Mario and Luigi rpgs.
The Etrian Odyssey Series
SMT IV and SMT IV: Apocalypse

And depending on whether you played the DS versions or not, the enhanced ports of SMT: Devil Survivor 1 and 2, and Strange Journey.

It's currently on sale right now on the Switch for like $7 so I've been thinking of getting it.

Ehh, it's weird that they're trying to bring back the whole Steve and Nancy thing, even when they just resolved that drama last season. Felt like a weird step back imo.

I don't know why but I remembered this topic while I was at the wholesale store I occasionally go to and they had the Classic Mix share size bag for like $2.70, so I got it.

Usually costs like 7 bucks at walmart or 4 if you order directly from the M&M site, so I got a pretty sweet deal.

I only saw the initial trailer for it before seeing it, so I thought it was just gonna be John Wick but with vikings.

I went in thinking it was gonna be somewhat more grounded in reality. Didn't expect so much scandinivian/norse mysticism.

Still pretty badass though.

Kind of interesting to see the reception to anime adaptations of Shikimori and Cuckoos are like mirror versions of the manga reception.

Shikimori started out boring, but then turned into a pretty popular manga, while Cuckoo started out strong but has nosedived in quality as of now.

Nope. You still have to select a stage/level like in X.

The next 2 games in the series, ZX and ZX Advent, are closer to metroidvanias if you're specifically looking for games in that genre.
