They look hella good for their age! Especially Masami Okui (the woman singer), she definitely doesn't look 49. She looks like she's late 20s-early 30s at least.

They badmouthed more or less everything by Kei Sasuga, Seo Kouji, and Im Dal Young - at which point I confirmed their opinions were s***, because Unbalance x Unbalance is a freaking masterpiece (before the hiatus, at least).

Don't know much about Kei Sasuga's works, but I can understand where they're coming from when it comes to Seo Kouji and Im Dal Young.

Both of them did had promising starts to their careers, with Kouji's Suzuka and Cross Over, and Dal Young's Unbalance x Unbalance. But all their manga after that have been, frankly, rather shit. Full of pointless drama, needless conflicts and misunderstandings that could have been easily resolved by the characters acting like the adults that they are supposed to be and talking things out.

Heck, you said it yourself that Unbalance x2 started going downhill in the middle of its run.

I tried to read their later works but I just couldn't get into them. Freezing is such a big expositional snorefest most of the time, and when there are action scenes they ALWAYS get interrupted in the middle by characters shouting out even more exposition.

And I can't even remember what happens in Kimi no Iru Machi it had such a low impact, but I do remember parts where I got frustrated at the characters just plainly refusing to talk it out and fix their problems.

IIRC that actress is an actual singer, so it's kind of extra funny knowing that she could have sung it "well", but decided to be "in-character" and get all ridiculous with it.

I've always heard that it's easy to learn to sing well.

It's singing badly on purpose that takes real talent.

I really like that they also incorporate spots of japanese history and culture whenever they do katanas.

I'm really glad that they finally did Kenshin's Reverse-edge sword, and that they went all out and put so much care and amazing craftsmanship into such an iconic weapon.

You know, now that I think of it, I don't think the current model of isekai wouldn't actually be a good base for a game, even though nearly all of them use "game mechanics."

I mean, isn't one of the big draws of the isekai genre, the fact that they're using "game mechanics" like status screens and leveling up, in a non-game world?

An isekai game would be just a basic fantasy game.

Although, if you use the literal term of isekai , which is "another world", then there would be a couple of games that qualify.

The Final Fantasy Tactics Advance games are a major example. So would Final Fantasy X. Star Ocean 2 as well. And if you count travelling through time as "another world" then games that have that would count as well.

I think T0ffee suggested the Grand Blue manga some time back and I kept it in mind, but still haven't started it just yet.

I did, and I would still wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of comedy manga.

Or even those people who are sick of manga/anime set in high school or have teenage characters. Grand Blue is about college kids, and everything that entails. (ie, lots and lots and lots of alcohol)

Just a heads up though, it got picked up by crunchyroll so fan scans only go up to around chapter 40. You need a crunchyroll membership to view it now.

Backtracking to earlier areas to unlock new paths with abilities/items acquired through your adventure is a big part of metroidvanias.

Haven't played Zelda 2, but watched a couple of let's plays and from what I see it's fairly linear, with little to almost no backtracking.

I love cam whores.

I stumbled on a manga called Uwagaki and started on it. There's this guy who likes his classmate, but she doesn't like him and already has a boyfriend. Their teacher pops up out of nowhere and says he wants to know if she would fall for her guy if she wasn't already dating someone, and with no warning or explanation, suddenly makes a clone of the girl on the spot.

He wipes the clone's mind of all memories of the boyfriend, and tells the guy and the clone to start spending time together as an experiment. After a certain time period, he would merge the two girls and their memories together again, and who she decides to date would be dependent on whoever she had stronger feelings for; the guy or the boyfriend.

It's weird, but funny, and pretty good. There's also a goat.

Read it after seeing your post, and I blazed through it because I just wanted to keep reading and see what would happen next.

The characters are all very well written and it really explores a lot of the consequences and effects of the initial premise, and does it all without any dips in the pacing and storytelling.

If you like short stories which have fulfilling endings like that, try reading Itsuya-san by Sahara Mizu and Futari no Renai Shoka by Yamazaki Kore (the same mangaka as Ancient Magus Bride).

Breath of the Wild's main focus isn't the dungeons or even the story really, it's all about exploring the world.

Which is good if you're into that sort of thing, but if you're more used to the traditional Zelda format of conquering long dungeons and discovering items within them to unlock new areas of the overworld, then this game might not be your cup of tea.

It took me 4 hours before I got to my first "main" dungeon (the Zora one), and I spent nearly 10-20 hours in between the others. I spent most of the game just wandering the huge overworld and finding shrines, sidequests, and collectibles.

Also, quick side note, this whole incident must have been more emotionally draining to me than I thought because I just cried when I was watching a video of some guy analyzing the empowering aspect of Bravely Default's ost.

And I almost never cry.

I tend to think of myself as a not very emotional type of person, more often suggesting ways and steps to help solve a person's problems rather than offering emotional support.

But man, I don't know why, when the video guy was talking about the game using music to highlight the player's experience of overcoming challenges and all that stuff, I started crying.

I wasn't all-out blubbering or anything like that, but there were tears streaming down my face.

I need to try and get my shit together, before I make my family worry even more.

Ok so I can see where minervo, The_Numerous and some other people are coming from.

It is a fact that some hospitals are quick to just prescribe meds and call it a day, without truly taking their time to analyze all the nuances of their patent's case.

But at the same time I am definitely worried that he might just act like he's alright, without really allowing himself to be healed or expressing his emotions so that the therapists can get to the underlying cause of WHY he started doing his meditations in the first place. And Jen has it right that that's something only time in the hospital and medicine can fix.

Fortunately he responded very well to the ativan he took before he got the mri, and that was the part where I talked about him being lucid in the afternoon when we were there. It was only after it wore off that he started insisting on doing his weird hand waving things again.

So with that the doctor said that her plan was to get him to be in a position where he feels like he doesn't need to do his rituals for a while, since those are what make him go catatonic, and then try to see if he can be helped with therapy or at least try to uncover some sort of deeper problems that caused this.

The good news is that he was able to be processed very quickly and he should be able to be moved to a proper ward that allows him to have visitors by tomorrow.

Though I still can't help feeling like maybe I shouldn't have called 911 and started this whole mess in the first place.

I keep wondering if maybe he really would have been alright if I just left him to finish his weird meditation.

A few hours after we got home, he immediately called us and he was crying and distraught about everything that happened, so much so that he wasn't eating.

We kept trying to convince him to eat over the phone. We kept saying that everything will be all right. We kept saying "let them help you," "you need to get better," all while he himself kept saying that he wasn't insane.

It's fucking tough and I want to cry and scream, but I have to be the strong older brother and tell him that he can get through this. I need to be strong so that my mom, who's raised us all by herself, doesn't just give up and break down. I need to be strong so that my younger brother, who actually stands a chance at a good future, doesn't get worried while he's at school.

It's been a long fucking day.

So yeah, updates

My brother was lucid during the afternoon and he said he apparently was trying out some sort of "transcendental meditation" he heard or read about on the internet. He kept talking about having his path to the energy of the universe getting obstructed because I interrupted his meditation when I called 911.

His "meditation" that, just to remind you, looked like he was having a seizure, and made him drool all over himself.

We also showed the doctor videos we took of him having fits, waving his arms around with his mouth wide open and stuff. And so the doctor told us that he must have induced a catatonic state during his "meditation".

Now, my mom revealed that he actually does have a history with seizures, but it was way back when he was a toddler around 1-3 years old. Naturally, I had no idea that was a thing since I'm only 2 years older than him, so I barely remember things at that age.

Now while all this was going on, my brother, who seemed pretty lucid and aware of his surroundings, was still doing weird hand wavy motions, twitching his back and face, and kept saying that he needed to "readjust his body's center of energy." He was also adamantly exclaiming that he was not insane, and that all he needed was time to finish his weird ritual.

He's had all sorts of tests done at this point; blood and urine, CT scans, MRIs, EEGs, and they all showed that he was normal. No drugs, no irregularities, nothing. The doctor was worried that my brother might not fully realize what was happening to him during his "episodes" because he kept doing it again and again since he kept saying that he was getting stuck during his "meditations," likely because he was inducing catatonia. So she recommended that we leave him in the psychiatric ED for observations and preliminary treatment before transferring him to a proper psych ward.

Thing is, beds in the ward were very scarce so she told us that it was likely that he might have to spend several days in the ED, which has a very strict no visitors policy, before a bed could open up. Obviously this was not good news for us. Leaving him all alone without being able to see him for almost a week in his very delicate condition is a very harsh circumstance for him and for us.

But what choice did we have? The doctor assured us that they would take very good care of him of course (which was not very reassuring after seeing how FUCKING SLOW things seemed to happen in the hospital), and he will always have the option to call us if anything does happen. All of us there--which were me, my mom, my younger brother, and my aunt and uncle--kept reassuring him that things were gonna be fine, that we believed everything he said and that he should explain everything that went on in his head to his doctors, and that he always had the option to call us if he didn't like what was going on.

It was... tough.

So that's how my day went potd, how was yours?

Apparently he JUST got to sleep and only after they had to give him some sleeping pills. He was acting weird all night.

CT scans came back normal.

They're taking him for an MRI right now.

Alright, quick update before I get ready to go to the hospital and take over the watch from my mom.

His bloodwork and urine tests came back clean. No drugs were found in his system.

Now they're just waiting for the results of the CT scan he had earlier.

She hasn't said whether he was still in his "trance" when she texted me the updates.

I have no fucking clue what the fuck is going on right now.

My brother just suddenly started acting crazy, doing weird body motions, staring out at nothing for hours, talking about reaching "nirvana" or some shit, laughing uncontrollably out of nowhere

I think he might literally have gone insane.

He has never had any neurological or psychological problems before this... episode/fit/whatever.

He was acting strange yesterday, just staring out the windows and babbling some nonsense, and when I asked him what he was doing, he said he was "meditating" and he told me to just leave him alone.

I was like, alright sure, whatever. Not the first time he went into one of these fad diets/rituals. He'll just get bored of it and move on to the next one like always.

But then I notice all his odd behavior and I was starting to get worried. It came to a head a few hours ago when he was LITERALLY DROOLING ALL OVER HIMSELF. Like, the whole front of his shirt was just wet, and a lot of it spilled onto the floor. I tried to talk to him but he would not respond to me, and he just kept saying that he "was close to nirvana" and "I can feel everything the energy."

Keep in mind, I was in the apartment the whole day with him yesterday and today, and he doesn't take any sort of medications or drugs or whatever, so I have no idea what could have caused this.

I had to call our mom, who is a nurse, over. I also tried to call for an emergency psych consult, but they don't have a team for late night emergencies, so they said to just call 911, so I did. Paramedics came and did a whole routine of taking blood pressure, blood sugar, pupil dilation, interviews, all that stuff.

Now, my mom and my brother are at the hospital right now, and I'm in the apartment with my youngest brother, wide awake, can't sleep and worried out of my mind.

This video got randomly recommended to me and I found out that the BnHA anime is nearing one of the greatest scenes in the entire series.



Haven't been keeping up with the BnHA anime since I'm waiting for the dub, but I might make an exception for next week's episode.

It's a major turning point in the series since, it's the moment All Might's powers finally give out, his true form is revealed to the world, All For One gets captured, and the torch is officially passed down to Deku. Needless to say, it's a big deal.

Found out there's a patch to restore the dub in Growlanser 4.

The catch is, the cutscenes don't have subtitles, and I don't speak japanese.

Anybody else used this patch before? What are your thoughts?

I'm thinking I should just go ahead and patch it in, and just watch the cutscenes on youtube or something.

Finally finished Persona 3 Portable with the male MC.

Didn't bother fighting the hidden boss because fuck that shit and her bullshit instant death counters.

Might go back and go through with the female MC someday. It'll definitely be easier since I'll have my uber gear and persona from the start.

For now, I'll try to go back and play Growlanser properly. I kinda stopped just past the first chapter.

MyAnimeList decided to update its security policy or whatever and it wiped out all the users passwords and asked them to make new ones.

Now, this usually isn't a big deal. Just send a "change password" request and they'll send a link to your email, wait a few minutes, bada-bing-bada-boom easy peasy.

Unfortunately, the email I used to make the MAL account no longer exists, and I haven't updated my profile to use my current email. So I can't change my password, which means, I'm essentially locked out of my account.

I'm 100% Filipino so, yes.

It's pretty good, though I'm saying that mostly because the tastes remind me of home.

Objectively speaking, it's pretty much on the same level as Popeye's or KFC, except they also serve burgers and spaghetti. (It always gives me a kick whenever someone unfamiliar sees the menu for the first time.)

If you're going, try the spaghetti at least. It's Filipino style, which is a bit sweeter than regular tomato sauce.

I don't think I can watch Heaven's Feel.

It was the first time I ever saw or got exposed to sexually disturbing stuff, and I think I got traumatized a little bit from it.

I mean, I can watch/read WAAY more depraved and messed up stuff now without batting an eye, but somehow, whenever I replay the VN, I always get stuck on the Heaven's Feel route and something about it makes me not to go through with it.

Although, the only RAWS and scans we have is from Volume 4, so we have 3 more volumes before the end. Hopefully someone will start scanlating it again now that they can schedule around it ending.
