I just said fuck it and don't really watch new TV shows or movies at home anymore. I've been watching X Men 97 with a friend and Chucky with my sister but now that those are over for the season, I really don't have anything current to watch even if someone else is paying for it.

I do pay for Apple Music though because I use and enjoy that daily but that's it. If I'm watching something online, it's going to be YouTube.

However, I have been buying DVDs again and set up my own media server with TV shows and movies I like. I might keep expanding that.

As a kid, my first experience with those was unsuspectingly reaching into a bag of Lay's that my uncle had and shoving a handful in my mouth. He laughed at my reaction and from that moment on, I was traumatized away from that aquamarine (or whatever shade that was) bag for about 20 years. I tried them again in my late 20s now and fell in love with them. At one point, I ate so many of them that my tongue developed blisters.

It really was just the shock of it and expecting a regular potato chip. I would have otherwise liked them because I ate pickles, Lucas candy, and all kinds of sour stuff fairly often as a kid.

Anyway, I'm one of the guys in the middle back.

Yes. I grew up in a family of people who shit on every good thing anyone ever experienced, either intentionally or unintentionally. Someone always found some way to take someone down a peg and I resolved at a young age not to be like that. I like when good things happen to the people I care about. Or even people I don't care about tbh.

TopicHas anyone else noticed this trend with Smartcars or am I just crazy
TheLiarParadox
05/10/24 10:47:04 PM

I don't see many smartcars around here but damn near every single Fiat I've seen is driven by a fat guy.

I myself am overweight, down from super morbidly obese at one point, and I have this theory that there are two kinds of fat drivers.

There are those who are comfortable being fat and know how to maneuver themselves with confidence and, dare I say, grace. They are okay having a large vehicle because aside from the room it affords them, moving that kind of mass around is second nature to them. It is a natural extension of them.

Then there are those who are worried about taking up space and how they'll navigate around others. They hate being an imposition. They worry about their overhang bumping into people or have unwieldy lovehandles that sideswipe things. As such, they want something that is the opposite of them. They want something that is compact and pulled in close so that it is not as unwieldy as they themselves are. Even if it's not as spacious as a bigger vehicle, even if it's actually cramped as hell, it's still better than having a large, cumbersome vehicle swinging its lovehandles all over the place, so to speak.

I was in the latter camp. I haven't driven much in my life, don't currently, and I don't have serious plans to ever become a regular driver because I hate everything about driving. A big part of that is that I never found the right vehicle early on. Everyone tried to force me into giant SUVs or bigass grandma Lincoln because fat guy needs a big, spacious vehicle. Didn't work that way. I felt self-conscious and out of control.

I did, however, drive a Geo Metro once and felt far more comfortable in that, aside from the big ass trucks and insane drivers that would destroy that car. I felt in total control in a way that I never did in the Suburban my brother tried to give me or even the Jeep Wrangler a friend let me drive.

I would like to try out a Smartcar, though maybe if I move elsewhere because I don't want to drive anything like that in Dallas.

TheLiarParadox

I generally eat pretty healthy. Lots of whole grains, legumes, and a variety of fruit, veg, nuts, and seeds.

I am, however, coming out of a phase where I was eating more commercial bread products than I like to because it was convenient. I was still eating it with healthy things and not loading up two Dagwoods with a family sized bag of chips and a 2L soda like I used to do a few times a week when I was severely obese. Even still, having commercial bread as my main starch did start to wear on me. I'm back to cutting it out this week though.

I also lift 3 or 4 times a week and walk at least a couple of miles every day.

And yeah, it's pretty weird how differently I am treated. I rode the DART Rail yesterday and for almost the whole ride I thought about how different the experience was from when I was super fat. It's great.

even if i didn't like dogs and cats, the mass extinction of two entire species of animal might have a far-reaching consequence or two
Assuming we're just talking about domestic (pet) cats and dogs and not their broader families, their current existence also has far reaching consequences. Cats especially are an ecological blight that has literally pushed species to extinction and will continue to do so. Not Thanos'ing them if given the chance would be wildly irresponsible. I say this as someone who absolutely loves cats.

Ah. I'm not too familiar with noise but some genres I listen to incorporate it to some extent, like hyperpop. I'm trying to get into making music myself and trying to expose myself to all kinds of stuff, so this is useful.
