lol the second episode's name is "The Ladies' Room"

TIL that psychiatry was regarded as fake science back then. wtf guys, the first thing I thought when she said her hands were numb is "oh, must be a neurological problem."

She crashes the car because her hands go numb and her husband guilt trips her about it. Nice!

I don't get the reluctance to have her see a psychiatry. She has to mention the "stigma" around it rather than the necessity to seek medical care. This is so sad :(

Peggy's getting good at rolling with the sexual harassment.

And apparently there's no such thing as doctor-patient confidentiality. That's a scary thought.

There's... not a whole lot to mention in this episode. I'm kinda disappointed Menken didn't come back. I liked her.

All I knew about it at first was that it's about an ad agency, the main character drinks a lot, there's a lot of misogyny, and there's a closet case. Please be nice and don't spoil past what I've seen.

Finished up episode 1. My thoughts!

They were laying on the Salvatore-is-gay thing way too thick. The disinterest in the bachelor party, the avoiding the girlfriend question, the line "do people really do that, live one way even though they think the exact opposite."

Holy crap I was really surprised how blatant everyone was with the sexism. I kinda knew it was there, but seeing it all laid bare was kinda gross.

I love the word "strumpet" and I'm gonna find occasions to use it.

I'm gonna be mad if Menken winds up as Don Draper's love interest or something, considering the content of the show. It's like, here's this show about the ugliness of 1950's corporate America. Let's introduce a woman who is going to be charmed by a man. I could see her using his preconceived notions of her to get an advantage over him, in kinda a Bayonetta-ish femininity-as-weapon thing. But we'll see.

This show is looking to be awesome. I love the whole look, and the actors are pretty good. I'm willing to forgive some of the over-the-top introduction to the themes in the story because this is the first episode and some EXPOSITION is necessary.

Well, I know not to sleep with HIV-positive people

Unless you meant know that I had HIV, in which case I can say that I found the infection really early. The medical director of the testing place said that he'd never seen anyone find out so soon, and my prognosis is good as long as I start getting treated pretty quickly.

why'd you get fired?

Performance, basically. It was really hard to read their code and I think my manager and I were having a hard time communicating what we wanted to each other. They were in the beginning of a big push to refactor their code to be more extensible and maintainable, and that requires either a senior software engineer or someone who's been with the company for a long time. The only other people who'd been there for less than a year are all senior software developers.

Adding to the fact that I got hit by a car in November and my left side doesn't work too good. So now I'm an unemployed cripple with HIV. I was kinda riding high on how easy everything was, and how awesome everything was, and then it went away all at once. My only reprieve is that I've got a Tuesday-Sunday weekend to look forward to.

It took me by surprise, too. I was doing my every-three-month checkup just because it was three months since the last time I'd been tested. I could remind myself all I wanted that it's not a death sentence (the virus in and of itself isn't that bad as long as you stay away from infections) and that I've got insurance (lol, not no more), but it's getting really tiring.

Learn from me. Condoms aren't enough to prevent transmission. Unless you're cool with possibly contracting it, don't sleep with people who aren't 100% positive they're clean.

This is totally none of your business and I shouldn't even be posting this here. I should be talking to friends I can confide in and I know a couple of you have me on Facebook. But whatever, people aren't generally a******s who would post stuff on my Facebook wall just so they have the satisfaction of knowing my friends and loved ones are unduly scared for me.
