If a cake's purpose is to be for my birthday, and I don't besmirch the portion which has my name, is the cake not still fulfilling its purpose even if it's not full? It's still my birthday cake, it's just not whole. The expression doesn't discuss portioning, so I don't see why it has to be a complete cake in order to still count as a cake.
