Going to one this afternoon. Ive heard a lot of good things about this sealed format so Im pretty excited.

I think the most interesting part was I opened something like 10 tapped lands, which combined with the land cycling cards means you can probably play no green 3 color decks. That makes deck building much more interesting

Went to prerelease

opened both Nevinyrral's disk and Damn and had a silly 4 color no red control deck that did well.

Also my pulls were pretty great. Classic border Damn, Sword of Hearth, Ignoble Hierarch, and from a set booster prize support Scalding Tarn and Full Art Dakon Planeswalker

good value for $50

Its definitely situational, but yeah that could be a beating against certain decks.

For sure. I think the biggest strike against it is outside of dedicated mill decks, this feels too dead against some decks to be maindeckable which means it competes with every other silver bullet sideboard card in existance.

I don't know if you want to to put this in a sideboard over your Burrenton Forge-Tenders or rest in pieces for instance.

But hell, if it makes mill no longer a tier 4 deck that's cool

Some interesting implications there. I don't know if a 3 mana sorcery is really even playable in Legacy or Vintage, but there are decks that could be totally wiped out by the time you hit mana value of 20+. Like, even if you didn't get 100% of their cards you could get enough key pieces to render a win impossible for the opponent.

Yeah, exile is absolutely bonkers. Makes me think this could be eternal playable

I think many people underestimate brain storm because it might be one of the highest skill variance cards in the game. I cant think of any other card where the intuitive play pattern is so far from the optimal play pattern. People just fire off brainstorms turn 1, or whenever they have 1 extra mana all the time when it is almost never correct to do that. That makes me think people underestimate the power of brainstorm based on their own mediocre performance with it.

The card is stupid good

Brainstorm is just too good at too many things. Its a hard counter against the best black card in the format, thought seize. Its a 1 mana Draw 3 discard 2 with any sort of shuffle or discard effect (Which exist even without fetch lands.

Its got to be banned. Even if Phoenix doesn't play it, it hates out decks that are weak to it.

Arena cube is back.

Just went 7-1 with a sweet U/R Delver deck.

For some reason memory lapsing your opponents alrunds epiphany or planeswalker or whatever every turn while attacking with brined cuttthroat or young pyromancer 6 turns in a row is so satisfying.

Wouldn't the line just be:

As Foretold -> Fast mana, etc from hand -> Gaea's Will from As Foretold -> Graveyard shenanigans?

It's more restrictive than Yawg's Will but still seems like it could be very broken

Adding an extra card required to the combo is pretty awful.

I wouldnt be surprised if someone made a good deck with it, but I also wouldnt be surprised if this is mox tantalite 2.0

Not being able to double cast fast mana is a big problem (As a single cast will exile)

So this might as well have suspend 100 for all practical purposes.

Having said that I could see it in an as foretold shell I suppose... Wait isn't as foretold only once per turn?

Maybe this is just garbage

If something needs to get banned, I doubt its Ephemerate. You still have Cloudshift in that case, which essentially serves the same purpose.

Well see. Its a cute combo, but filling your deck with mostly do-nothing cards like Ephemerate doesnt seem like something you want to do, even for a nice payoff like that. Plus its a 4-card combo to pull off turn 1, so Im not particularly concerned about the implications.

Ephemerate is so infinitely better than cloud shift. Remember this deck also 4Xs Wall of omens. Ephemerate is a 1 mana divination

It would remind me a lot of Twin (even have the 4 mana sorcery now, more mana needed for protection) except losing the ability to "just go for it" without putting your library to 3 cards and be in danger of losing is a huge deal, as is the singleton aspect. And Tainted Pact it not itself an alternate wincon like Twin's creatures are. It's MUCH worse.

Still, much worse Twin is still Twin and people are gonna try and workshop the combo until it works. Combo/control decks are like crack to people.

Not even in the same universe. Twin flashing in a land tapper is what made it so killer. You had to immediately burn your removal if you had it. You couldnt wait for them to go for it.

I suspect it might also matter that removing Jace at instant speed disrupts the combo and makes it so you lose instead.

Maybe, I'm not actually sure how much instant speed planeswalker removal there is available.

Not a lot, but it exists.

The deck was T1 because once thassa was on the battlefield there was nothing you could do about it. Jace is twice the cost and can be removed.

mystic reflections life gain jank is playable Im sure Jace version will still win games, but I doubt you could ever hit mythic with it

Finished.

The past section was entirely too long, some of the exposition was way too drawn out, and the swordsman was never redeemable. I also thought that the ending dwelled a bit too much on Michael/Giselle when so much of the novel didnt revolve around them.

Having said that, the parallelism of Jacobos character was incredible and I give it major props for going so long with me having absolutely no idea where it was going.

I thought it was good, but not earth shattering

Are there more 80%+ spell decks in this format than I realize? In a generic draft format I'm pretty confident saying that the effect of Reject is reasonable albeit not great. But obviously if there's format specific things making it bad here that's another story. (This is only my third time playing Strixhaven limited)

Cutting Spectacle Mage and Elemental Masterpiece is reasonable and in fact those already would have been the first things I would cut.

I definitely don't agree with cutting Crackle in Power for the reason that I don't know how my deck consistently wins without it. I think my deck is weak in the early game and solid but not great in the middlegame, but without red I don't really think it has much lategame strength either. Obviously the deck will be more "consistent" but I think it would have to be so close to its peak power level in order to have a fighting chance that it just doesn't matter. I think Crackle in Power at least gives me something to play for other than what I see as a poor deck with a very narrow window to press any advantage. (ie. Consistency improves the strength/frequency of your average draws but if your average draws aren't good enough than it doesn't matter. My impression is that with Crackle in Power my average draws are good enough but without it they aren't. Again I could be misevaluating the strength of just the blue/green core though)

You cant splash double red cards. You will lose more games drawing the wrong lands than you will win by crackle and power being your 24th best card.

And yes, there are some decks where reject will never be good against

Curious what people with more experience than I think of this draft deck:

https://i.imgur.com/2Z2RTZn.png

The lessons on the right are not actually in the main deck itself but I moved them in for the sake of including everything relevant easily in an image.

My general take is that overall the deck is not quite there. However the presence specifically of Crackle in Power (which I picked up like...Pack 3 Pick 5???) allows me to "cheese" games with somewhat more consistency than that terms suggests by stalling out the game and eventually casting a huge Crackle in Power.

That said I also just won a game with relative ease against what was apparently another 3-0 deck without ever drawing Crackle in Power by just playing straight Quandrix tempo, and I've been
somewhat bad at evaluating deck power level in this format before.

I think the deck would be better not playing Red at all. Crackle with power is fine, but not worth destroying your mana over.

Also reject is very bad, but if that is really the best you got I would cut the 3 red cards
