Man it took me ages to queue for Susano.

Cool fight though!
Stormblood is where they start making the trial fights more cinematic. They're pretty cool.
I mean I guess technically the 3rd tier of Alexander is when they really started it but in so far as the MSQ fights go, its Stormblood.

This Yda revelation is wierd. I never even knew this other character, why is it acting like I should I care? Why is my characters default to ask why she never told me, why would THEY care? Is this something for 1.0 people?

Nope! the Yda in 1.0 was always Lyse as well. Yda herself literally never showed up ever in the entire story.

That fight was actually pretty hard on release. Pretty often you'd get trial roulette groups wiping to it.

Sadly it being easy is just a casualty of how gear scaling works, especially the endgame stuff of each expansion.

You somehow lost yours I guess?

But yeah Stormblood isn't bad at all. People just generally don't think the story is as good as Heavensward or Shadowbringers. Especially the Ala Mhigo stuff and anything to do with Lyse. The stuff on Othard is generally more well liked.

The only Dragoon guide you need is to find the nearest AoE circle, step into it, then proceed to lie down face first lul. Alternatively, find the nearest edge of the arena and backflip off it (Red Mage can use this technique too!)

Seriously though Dragoon is the melee DPS I'm least familiar with so someone else will have to handle that if they know. There are probably youtube guides or infographics for it though if nothing else.

Machinist was the hardest Job to play effectively in the game by far with the only real competition coming close being Summoner (mostly because Summoner required you to not die or mess up ~ever~ or else it screwed your rotation, and thus DPS, for the entire rest of the fight even if you revived).

And yeah mechanically you pretty much nailed it. It was super tight burst windows on Wildfire timings, and also had an 'ammo' mechanic they got rid of that let you store 1-5 bullets that caused your attacks to do extra damage. Also the heat gauge existed but it used to debuff your damage instead of buff you when you overheated. Oh, and gauss barrel was a thing, which caused your regular attacks to have cast bars.

The Shadowbringers rework was not only a mechanical rework to what it is now, but a thematic one as well. Machinist before really kinda just felt like a 'Gunslinger' that popped turrets down at the beginning of fights. Now they actually use gadgets like the drill, flamethrower, bio blaster etc in addition to the gun, so they feel more like how say Edgar did in FF6 (which a lot of people were kind of expecting when it first came out).

Its just a shame that everyone remembers the writing for the ending being a poorly thought out mess because the rest of it is really good.

Yes, balance was the only one that you wanted to play to play optimally. No, getting rid of the system entirely was not the way to go about changing it. It would have been far better to remove balance than to make every card into balance, which is basically what they did. There were two ways to fix it and they chose the way that removed the classes identity.

Not_an_Owl posted...
Anyone still complaining about the card rework is just whining to whine imo.

OR maybe they don't enjoy how the job plays now and aren't solely concerned with how effective something is??

It's the card rework + removing all of the interesting time/buff manipulation it had previously.

Also I'd personally say the OGCDs are pretty bad on Astro compared to the other two but I'm not trying to say you shouldn't enjoy it if you don't, just my opinion.

Just FYI "Hard Mode" dungeons don't actually mean 'the same but harder' in FF14. They're actual, canonically later revisits of dungeons that feature completely new story, monsters, bosses, and you often take new routes through the place. So just because you didn't like the earlier instance of the dungeon doesn't mean anything really (conversely, sometimes the hard mode is the one that isn't as good, but that's not the case with Tam Tara).

Yeah I really don't recommend doing all of the level 50 dungeons, its not really worth it. Or at least, don't go out of your way to do them right at 50 and spread them out.

The only one I'd say is the exception to that is Tam Tara (Hard) because it has quite a good story.

Yes, the raids are story heavy content, which is why its kind of annoying that Coil doesn't have a normal mode.

Also because the Coil fights are quite cool and there's really not a way to experience them now unless you can find a pre-made party of people that want to do them synced for the challenge. IMO Turn 9 is still one of the best fights they've ever done.

Wow, I know you guys already said to expect it, but was the playrate for this Bahamut raid so bad that they straight up broke it up into 5 smaller chunks...and it still has a 30+ minute wait for the first one?

It was always broken up that way. All 8 man raids are 3 sets of 4 bosses (Coil has an extra though because Turn 3 isn't actually a boss but is a weird platforming thing). The only difference is the later ones have a normal and savage mode with the normal mode being possible for pubs to do so everyone can see the story, and Coil doesn't have that.

You are not going to get a group on-level to do Coil. It's old content so nobody is actively queueing for it and its almost never included in incentives to play old content because It's harder than you can realistically do in a pub. The only way you're likely going to get a group to do it is if you use Party Finder to find some high level players to carry you through it unsynced.

Yeah the end levels of ARR are paced weirdly level wise.

Playing back when ARR first came out (before the many multitudes of EXP buffs) you actually hit a wall around the mid-to-late 40s where you couldn't progress the MSQ unless you stopped and leveled for a bit if you were mostly mainlining it.

Even now its where you catch up in levels for awhile because there's so few quests between level gaps.

You'll be ahead again soon though because of the post ARR patch story.

Radiant mode changes it so the cutoff is level 4 for novice dungeons.

Radiant mode isn't actually any easier, really. It's just less of a grind because all of the gold/trophy costs are scaled way down. Enemies have the same stats, etc. I've played both and there's not really a discernible difference in difficulty.

The cure isn't bad on Red Mage. It's quite potent. It's not really the same as Summoner because Summoner's heal doesn't scale while Red Mage's does, so Summoner's heal actually IS bad. I would compare it more to Paladin's heal.

You just generally don't want to cast it unless things are going to absolute hell because your job is to DPS (or to pre-set up dualcasts when there are no targets, but yeah)

Wait. One of the stages is offering Book of Holiness (-20% Stress, -10% Deathblow resistance) which is uncommon but seems to be better than Solar Crown (-20% stress if Torch above 75)? Not suffered a Deathblow yet so don't know how bad dropping Deathblow resistance is.

You do not necessarily always want your torch above 75. You get more loot from everything at low light. If you can handle it, its actually generally a good idea to have light as low as possible for more moneyz. It does take a pretty big toll on sanity though, and you're more susceptible to getting ambushed. Plus everything is just, in general, harder. But advanced players will do 'no light' runs a lot.

Also deathblows are when you get to 0 HP, you don't necessarily die immediately. It puts you on deaths door, and from that point on any damage you take has a chance to kill you. 33% at base, I think. So while it is a demerit to have -20%, it actually doesn't do anything unless you're already in a bad spot, but it will make that bad spot riskier.

So IMO the Book is straight up better than the Solar Crown, personally.
